SAAB 93 NO START, NO CRANK, NO COMMUNICATION

- Hey guys and welcome back again, this a short video (DIY friendly) for how to diagnose such a condition if you suspect the ABS module, ofcourse a no start condition could be due a 1000 reason, most important reason is a low voltage in the battery which i assume you charged or replaced if thats the situation, make sure your battery voltage is above 12 and stays above that while the key is in the crank position.
Enjoy the video. - Авто та транспорт
You are a FLYING DUTCHMAN! Greetings from Amsterdam! have been struggling with this problem for 3 years on 04 Saab 9-3. Crazy mechanics wanting to replace all parts etc (spent over 600 EURO) and problem remained unresolved; You made it so easy, when watching your video I could not wait and I just checked it exactly as you described. That is the first and second pin, connecting with opposite rail. And IT WORKED!!! The only way to restart my car so far was a hard reboot (take off black power cable wait 10 sec and connect back). You are an awesome DUDE!
I want to tell You THANK YOU Your video WORKED THE FIRST TIME!
Can't wait to give it a go
Great work! Thank you so much 🎉
Man I'm definitely gonna give this a try later on to see if this method gets my car to start. Been having similar issues with my 05 Saab, only thing is that mine cranks but wont start or communicate with any scanner. ABS light is on along with the Traction Control & Check engine, was gonna just test my luck by purchasing a new ECM in hopes of that being the issue but will definitely give this method a shot. Saab owners appreciate your channel so much!!!
If the car cranks then it might be smthn else, but why not to try and let me know
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY will do man, also I uploaded a video of it almost turning on after spraying starter fluid in the "Intake". Check it out, maybe you can spot something out.
Chuy which one do you have?
Did you fix it?

Dude is a genius
Hello, I have a 9-3 2.0 t, my question is if I try this and the car starts what is my next step? Do I replace the module?
Great video amazing trick. I’m having the same issue of no crank no start and no communication. I tried this trick but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. But at least it’s one thing to scratch off the list.
ECU pin 72 big socket brown wire with white line broken. It goes to front fuse box, first of 3 sockets under fuse box, first means front of the car and up, number 6 pin.
How to test.
Red relay, take it out, connect left and right holes with wire, should start.
Cut, put new wire, solder, fixed. All errors on ABS module and limited performance will go away.
@@mrkmrk804 I'll try this my saab is having this problem but mine is gas don't have a red relay next to the yellow starter fuse
@@mrkmrk804 maybe I'm an idiot but which ecu are you talking about? Main one of abs one? And which wire?
@@mav3ric100 Main one.
On ECU ( main one ), there is numbers for every wire. Number 72, located on bigger socket connecting ECU. That wire is brown with white line. There are few same colour coded wires, thats is why is best to track down number 72. It goes to fuse box, to a number 6 pin.
I freaking love you
🤣🤣🤣
Hi is this the same inu unit for the b284 engine? Thanks for the reply
Hi I have a Saab 9-3 03 vector sid is saying key not accepted, have transponder codes key turns but no crank tried to jus a jumper the car cranks but no start gets spark for a few seconds and it stops getting sparks ?
What happens if you shorted something when your trying to start your Saab in the relay box under he hood I stuck the damn wires in the wrong hope and I'm having problems with it starting now it's cranking but not starting
Is it plug and play to replace or is reprogramming needed?! TIA
Please help me with my Cadillac bls I can't seem to find the problem on it
Hi I have that problem too but also sid screen not working and can't find why
I can turn the key
There is no steering wheel lock at all
Traction fault on screen and sid not working
Also no communication
Any ideas?
where did you get the connectors soldered to the wires? Since the abs module has thicker pins than the male connectors that can be found in our saabs although of equal width. Furthermore, I need the two larger male pins that are still in the module to check the power supply.
I have a ton of old connectors, i chose what ever fits 😬
'97 900S that cranks but won't start. Seems there is no spark to the plubs.
Very helpfull video!! Do you know if this apply for the TID models too?
Best regards Jimmy
Im sure it does ..
thanks you are a genius but another one quick Q replacing the ABS does reprogramming needed or married to the car to work?
hydraulics side and the electrical modules or the whole units ?
U can replace just the moduel .. 99% of the time does not need programming
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY WHAT DO YOU MEAN JUST BTHE MODULE ? THE ELECTRICAL PART? SHOULD IT BE BRAND NEW MODULE ? I PURCHASED A USED ONE AND SRTILL DOES THE SAME THING
Which Pins? Cant See it
Hi! this is a great video... thank you for sharing this to us. I have the code U0212 in my Saab 93 2008 Aero. Sometimes ABS AND TCS lights comes on when I hit some bumps on the Road. Then sometimes the car won't start. There are others videos where the ABS module is re-soldered on solder joints due dry joints inside the module. Do you recommend re-soldering dry joints insiste the ABS module? Thank you. Save Saab!
I will never suggest to open up such a critical safety component, u can send it for repairs or replace it simply.
The symptoms sounds like bad ABS module, but i will need further informations on the code U0202, in which module it was stored, and there should be an additional 2 digit codes After it if ur scanner can read those will help me help u further
@@Sirius90125 Thanks. I have followed all the instructions shown in that video and it worked for me! Thanks
I need help. Tried jumper wires. Didn’t do anything. What can I use to make jumper wires? Please help me.
If jumper wires didnt help then the ABS is not ur problem
Ok your trick 100% worked for me. My question is where do I go from here? I find TONS of used modules but the numbers dont all match. Is there one certain part number that for sure needs to match or a certain hardware number? Im happy that its actually correctly diagnosed now but I’m still up in the air on how to move forward.
2 numbers on the right of the label on the module must match and the number just above the barcode as well .
The Flying MechanicDIY thank you so much for the reply. Im gonna pull it and check all the solder joints because I noticed a lot of people have easily fixed their stock module.

HI, I have a 2005 9-3 convertible showing "Immobiliser Failure. Try Starting Again. Contact service", is this a common fault and is there an easy fix. The key unlocks/locks the doors and the key is accepted by the ignition and turns, just does nothing??
Thanks in advance and keep up the great videos, very helpful and easy to follow
Dismantle the ISM, clean it and try again .
I would recommend reading faults from the car as the message is not enough to pin point the root cause, however the most common item is the ISM, certain fault codes may point to the CIM.
Watch my video for how to remove and clean the ISM

did refurbishing the ISM work for you?
I have these errors. my v6 aero starts. is stuck in 3nd gear. when i connect tech2 it states candi not connected. ever run across that?
Candi not connected is a candi/tech2 problem .. u will need to get the codes from the car
what saab doesnt have a turbo tac??

Where can I see where to put the wires at ? I don’t know where the numbers you said are at on the plug
Pair the last row of pins together, and then the previous to last row together .. these are the small pins side not the big pins
The Flying MechanicDIY ok I’ll try see if I can do this if not I’ll have to junk the car :/
How do I get the abs off to do this?
Hello and thanks a lot for this tip. My Saab 9.3 1.8t - 2008 is in this situation. Is it possible to drive it with the TCS/ESP bypassed ? Thanks
It is doable, but i recommend against it
It is doable, but i recommend against it
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Ok thanks!
The only way to fix this permanently is to re solder the pcb in that ABS module but my question is, if i get my car to start that way, will it get damaged if I plug the big fat connector back in while its running?
U can short the wires are externally and leave the connector connected .
These pair of pins actually connected on the board .
That was my problem , ABS module , after throwing parts at it with another mechanic

Your method does not work on mine, sad.
Maybe you have anything in your mind?
When you repla the abs unit, does it need to be coded to the ecu ? or is it just a plug and play ?
Plug and play if it has the same numbers
Thank you very much. I'm gonna see a 93 1.9tdi in my area. it is a 2008 model. The symptoms are the same. owner previously replace the battery and abs sensor on the back of the car. Did not result in his issue. If bypassing the abs module will let the car start then I'm planning on buying it. Do you think it is okay to drive it home, its only about 5 miles. I am hoping that all it needs is a new abs module.

How about a no crank no start without any lights? I'm at a dead end, Voltage on battery is healthy, replaced the starter a few years back. Thank you!
With ignition ON, do u know how to bypass the starter relay and see if the car cranks ?
I while back you help me pinpoint what was wrong with my saab .. And like you guessed it was the computer, it burn the pin farthest away from the fire wall to the right of the computer on the driver side connector ..it also burnt the same pin on the connector..(standing in front of the car) so now a got a new computer and a new connector .. all I have to do is cut the old burn connector and join the new one but I noticed there are 7 black wires.. I've joint the rest of them by color and everything match is just the black ones I'm puzzle about.. they don't have a mark they just black..So my question is.. Do it matter how I join the black to black wires??!!.. Any information will do helpful!! Thanks!!..

Ok, is there any way to check if it’s broken
What if no abs light, no lights at all. No start no clicks. On a manual
Check battery strength, cables tights
What if your DTC is 1445 and fuses are fine
Provide the full code and what car exactly please
Tried this on a 2007 2.0T and it killed the speedo and only gave me 10 miles before the engine cut out and brakes overheated. Also pushing wires in can disrupt the connection with the traction control unit.
When u push the wires with the connector disconnected u r actually bypassing all communication with the ABS module, yes the speedo may not work, but the fact ur engine died suggests smthn else wrong with the car, and brakes overheating has totally nthn to do with it .
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Thanks for clarifying. I did the bypass to try and get hom after I had a number of episodes of the engine turning off combined with ABS warning. Engine would crank but not start unless 10 mins had passed then could drive another 5 - 20 mins and would all happen again. I now have traction control off light when turning the key which then disappears when the car starts. Would a broken sensor wire lead to an engine shut down or is it more likely module failure?
Dave Johnston , first of all this test is designed to bypass the abs module so u can figure out if it is the issue or not, and since the condition persist even with the abs module then ur issue can be smthn else.
Does ur rpm gauge reads anything when u crank the car and it does not start ?
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Thanks. I'll have a look. I was just going off the traction control warning that came up as the engine shut down.

The Flying MechanicDIY ok thanks I will try and let you know
I tried this but no success, only abs light and brake came on but the stability/traction control failure disappeared, I still got no start
I don’t know what else to try now
Adel Ibrahim u mean u tried my method or u tried to plug the other module ??
The Flying MechanicDIY I tried your jumping wire method first and only the SID messages(stability/traction control) disappeared, and got the brake and abs light on dashboard, I still got no start
Then I plugged my other Saab’s abs computer and still no start
What is the next step after this video ? I have to change that abs module?
Once u establish the fact that the ABS module is shot, either send it for rebuild, or replace it.
If u want to replace it, u will need a module that matches the two numbers on the right of the label and the one on the bottom below the bar code, programming with tech2 maybe required
