    Singapore, the first accidental country. It didn't really want to be a country but it was kicked out of the Malayan Federation. I tend to not like dictators but I do like Lee Kuan Yew, as he is a benevolent leader that contributed a lot to transforming Singapore into the way it is today

    Hello, Singaporean here! I loved the video you have made for my country! It was fun and entertaining to watch.
    Some more info about the Bruneian currency: Although in theory, Singaporeans can use Bruneian currency and vice versa, in practice, virtually no one ever does it.
    If you use a Bruneian dollar to perform normal everyday transactions in Singapore, people will look at you like 🤨. Likewise if you use a Singaporean dollar in Brunei.
    The Bruneian and Singapore dollar is not like the Euro. They are two completely different currencies maintained by different instituitions but are kept at the same value.
    So to any tourists out there who intend to visit, don't use the Bruneian dollar here or you will get weird looks!

    • @flokiseo6583

      Attempting suicide is illegal in Singapore. You can get a year’s jail, or fine, based on section 309 of the Penalty Code. Which they don't usually carry out.
      However this it is only enforced against those who repeatedly attempt to commit suicide. This is because the courts have the power to get these people to seek treatment, via a mandatory treatment order. So they will do what it take to ensure you are going for treatments

    Malaysian here. My mum has a very interesting take on the chewing gum ban. It was banned not because of being a public nuisance, but for being a subtle form of protest. As the Singaporean people felt that they couldn't publicly oppose the ruling party, they left chewing gum everywhere in public. The government knew about this, and that is why chewing gum is banned.

      Unfortunately that story belongs with the other conspiracy theories. Back in the days of LKY, there was no need for subtlety. He’d just tell you to “Stop it!”, round up any others who persist and ban chewing gum.
      Chewing gum was just a huge nuisance. The cost of removing it from the pavements, street lamps, etc was very high and deemed unnecessary. Then there was the wad of gum on the MRT door which caused the doors not to close properly, shutting down the train system since that train couldn’t move off. The decision was then to ban gum. Sure, the people weren’t too happy (that ban plus being compared by LKY to cows chewing cud - he really wasn’t one to be subtle) but it was a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. You could still chew but selling and importing was a no-no.

      It's due to respect of 4 main religion. You might also know that although S'pore doesn't officially legislate gay right, there is no individual charge, arrested or prosecuted for being one.

    • @veekwok5611
      @veekwok5611 5 років тому +2

      Honestly, Singaporeans are ok with gay people. Just do your "private stuff" at home and not in the public. By the way, one of the grandsons of our founding father (Lee Kuan Yew) a gay just got married, of course to another gay, and was widely publicized.

    • @chicoferrazz
      @chicoferrazz 5 років тому

      lio ng That's not good enough. "Just do it at your home" is definitely not complaining of the human rights but it could be worse.

    • @elliotyourarobot
      @elliotyourarobot 5 років тому +1

      But if your already protected and treated normally by Govt institutes regardless if your gay doesnt it make the gay in gay rights unneeded because your sexual orientation is normalized so we can call it human rights? Like how i think they don't have the idea of protected classes because of how diverse they are the term is unneeded or not used.

    "weird laws"? Some of them yes. However, death penalty for bringing drugs like weed into the country and prison for sex between man and isn't just werid, it's completely insane... but don't worry - alcohol, of course, is perfectly legal in Singapore, even while it's more harmful than weed:)

    • @KhAnubis
      @KhAnubis  5 років тому

      Fun fact: the landing card I had to fill out before entering Singapore (and the piece that I was given to keep) literally says "death for drug traffickers under Singapore law". They're not subtle in Singapore.
