On board the first cruise from North America post-pandemic we were the first group of passengers to see this new experience. It is fast, easy, and such a huge improvement on the old muster drill.
In order to comply with maritime law, passengers on an ocean-going vessel must be aware of what to do for a response to an emergency condition onboard. For those who haven't cruised before, this involved an in-person muster drill on embarkation day. The drill required passengers to pause their fun, head to their muster station, and wait until all other passengers had arrived before watching the presentation. And if you missed the drill, you had to schedule a make-up drill to ensure you were up to date on the safety information.
There were a few big issues with this old version. First off, the bars had to close down prior to the drill and that just isn't that fun. Secondly, no matter how late you arrived to the drill you always ended up waiting for the remaining stragglers to arrive causing a lot of down time. Lastly, since these drills involved everyone on the ship there were often traffic jams going to and from these drills. Often times the muster drills caused the largest crowds and traffic jams that you would experience all cruise!
Now for the good news, that is all a thing of the past!!!! The new drill can be viewed and completed on your stateroom television, or your smart phone. Once you have watched you will select the passengers in your stateroom that have viewed the safety information, and that registers in the system as completed. You will then have to head to your muster station (so that you know how to get there) and check-in.
But here is the best part, NONE OF THE BARS CLOSE DOWN! You heard us right, since you complete the videos and check in anytime on your first afternoon on the ship there are no crowds! You can pick the time that is best for you to complete the necessary education, and check in at your muster station.
We always say that our biggest job as travel agents is to remove the pain points of travel so that you can enjoy your cruise vacation. Well Royal Caribbean Group has removed our single biggest pain-point of the cruise experience and made it AWESOME!
You got to love that voice actor they got for the muster video. He really conveys the seriousness of the situation.
We can dig it, maybe he can do our update videos.
They’ve always had him. He’s been doing the safety video for at least 8 years (when they played the video at my muster station, the schooner bar when I was on the allure in February 2014) it was that same guy.
This is an improvement over traditional muster drills.
100% agree
@Harr Travel hi harr travel i love your cruise ship tour i love how you explain all the ships i’m a diamond plus on royal Caribbean. your videos are the best my favorite is the oasis call ships do you have a video on the voyager of the seas i was thinking of going on voyager of seas but i wanna it refurbished or even the royalton bravo hotel resort and spa in punta cana.
This is awesome. Should be the industry standard.
Agree, it's been a long time coming.
The e=muster is a great improvement for sure.
100%
This is awesome. I mean you sit there for however long waiting for it to start and then watch the video and then finally leave, this frees up a lot of time.
Exactly, and we include the full safety videos. So it should be over with in under 5 minutes.
wow THIS IS MUCH BETTER BUT i WONDER THAT I HAVE JUST SEEN IT DO i NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN ONCE ON BOARD
We couldn't agree more.
OO, this is great! I vastly prefer to do the muster this way. I'm more likely to absorb the information this way than in a crowded bar, theater or on a hot deck with tons of other people. Well done, RCI! Thank you for showing the whole process.
We couldn't agree more!
I watched this video from home on the Royal Caribbean App. So much better than the old muster. Wished they did this a long time ago. Can't wait to start cruising again.
It is so much better! Can't believe they didn't do it sooner.
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing!
So much of an improvement. The most unpleasant experience of my first cruise on Carnival was being packed in a sweaty, crowded area to do the muster drill.
We have so had those little get togethers, and now we can focus them towards the bar.
Love it and thank you for sharing.
No problem!
Great idea
Thanks for posting. This information is great!
No problem, we have a lot more on the way.
This is awesome
Absolutely 100%
Beautiful. Thanks!!
No problem!
So glad to see how this is done. Thanks guys xx
Are you ready for your next cruise?
Now that is an amazing, long overdue improvement👍🏼 Hats off to RC and Celebrity
Thanks for sharing this!
Our pleasure.
Awesome looking forward to Carnival doing this as well.
Most other lines will probably follow suit.
So excited about this! Can’t wait till my September Equinox cruise🤞
Sounds awesome! 😎
I’m glad they are keeping the easy safety drill : Watch video and then check in - locate your muster station
Yes to this muster drill!!!!
Right?
This is awesome. I hope like you said it will be on all the cruise lines. Looking forward to this for my NCL Escape. It Will also be easier for people with mobility issues.
Most cruise lines should be adopting something similar.
I love this new technology
Best part of the new changes.
I love the new E-muster!!! 💕 I hope all cruise lines adopt this method.
We do too!
That awesome!!!!
We love it!
It is a lot easier to do the muster drill this way I have watched on my iPad how it is done ✅ and now watched how you done it on board Celebrity Millennium it is more clearer now it is good they have done this
Happy to help!
Hi!! New subbie here. Thx for sharing this. I look forward to your adventure videos. I found you from La lido loca. He mentioned you were back on a ship! Congrats!!
Awesome! Thank him for us. We can't wait to share the rest of Millennium, Adventure, Edge, Freedom, and Apex!
I wonder if other cruise lines will adopt something like this. I can't wait for my cruise in December!!!
They certainly will!
This is soo much better than the old drill
Couldn't agree more!
So much easier then reporting to our station with the vest on ( way back in the 80's)
100%
Now off to a bar for a Captain Morgan's rum the first of many I hope
Do it! 😎
This is going to be great. No more standing in the heat in a crowd.
Agree 100%
Carnival does the same thing!!!
Hi Danny! I love your videos :)
I have a question, I thought it was mandatory to always wear a mask except for when you are eating or at the swimming pool, would you mind confirming me this? Thank you and I hope my english was not so bad. Have a great day.
This is a fully vaccinated cruise, so no masks required at all.
Thankyou... now let me enjoy my sailaway party...LOL
Our thoughts exactly.
I'll be sailing aboard Viking Orion on a Bermuda itinerary in three weeks. I'm sure Viking Ocean will have something similar. After 33 years of cruising this is a welcome change! Bon Voyage everyone!
The certainly should.
The one and only thing I'll miss about the old muster, where ever you station was if you showed up somewhat later you usually get put close the exit. Once the muster is over you're usually one of the first to exit and can often be first to grab the best seat, lounger, sail away location, be one of the first in guest relations line, etc...
That is certainly a savvy trick, but now you can just find that spot early with a drink in your hand. :D
@@HarrTravel good idea! One quick question, did they have prime rib the first night at the MDR?
Nice! Thank you Covid.
The BEST thing to come out of the shut down for sure.
Does everyone in the cabin need to download the app individually?
great video. will carnival do it too??
Most likely all of the brands will have something very similar.
i just recently saw a video that someone tried checking off and acknowledging they watch and understood the muster drill but was not able to some how watch the video or acknowledge it.
Can you do this as soon as you step foot on the ship? Just go to a bar and watch it on your phone and go to your muster station? Or do they have a window of time that you can’t do it until they tell you? How soon are you able to complete this upon walking into the ship?
You can do it right away from the nearest bar to the muster station, then go get your sticker. That would probably be the protip.
I do question so what if this actually prepares you for a real emergency I apreciate how on Disney they do the standard drill meaning you know the quickest path from your stateroom to your assembly station and all crew are positioned with their life jackets even if they are not assembly station crew meaning everyone has practiced a real muster and knows how to
Are you dropping a full tour of this ship soon?
That will take a LOT of editing, but the filming is complete.

100% W
It doesn’t open in app
What “card” did you show the meter attendant?
Seapass card
Do they still blow the horn and sound all the alarms? Also is this the same for all Royal Caribbean ships?
From how I read it on the websites it's the same on all Royal Caribbean ships. If they blow the horn I do not know. However, Royal Caribbean Blog will be able to answer that question. If there's a concern I think its similar to a statement above folks won't know how to deal with the crowds
@@brysonbradford8622 They still do it from the two cruises I went on, RC and NCL. And it is pretty much the same.
while i like the technology and the ability to not interrupt the cruise, i fear that this is going to be less effective in an emergency especially if it is one where speed is important. this does not really prep you for dealing with crowds, recognizing the staff you will see or ho instructions will really sound. Also, if you have real questions about putting things on, there is noone to ask. so i do feel it is an improvement for the experience, in the extreme unlikelihood of a real serious emergency this may cause a few extra lives to get lost .
Disagree, but that it is fine that you have that perspective.
What took them so long to implement this?
No idea, just happy it is here!
How do they know you actually watched the video?
It is all digital, so once you watch the video in the stateroom or on the app it will verify which specific guest(s) watched the video and register it in the system. Then when you go down to the muster station they will check each persons unique identifier to see if the safety videos were completed.
I guess this is a positive from covid 19
Absolutely! Gotta appreciate the silver lining.
Don't you think that's quite a bad idea. I imagine many people would be lazy and not go down. The drill really shows you what you need to do in a real emergency...
Making it the cruisers job to choose to watch a video is stupid. So many people will not watch that video and won't know what to do in an emergency.
When they did something similar on P&O, you couldn’t change the channel on the tv until you had watched the muster.
So there are two components I would like to address in your comment. First off, we believe with the individual nature of the videos themselves people will be more receptive to the information. Compared to a full theater where you are watching a couple employees put on a life jacket vs. a personalized video right in front of you I think it's pretty obvious that this wouldn't be a step backwards.
To be clear, they will still hunt you down if you do not compete the safety videos. And it is individually tied to each passenger, so everyone must complete the training in its entirety before they will clear you.
I completely disagree with how the lifeboat drill is done and want to see it go back to how it was before.
I'm sure if you would like the old way, they can set up a time for you.
This is awesome. Too bad it took a pandemic for them to realize that this is waaay more efficient than gathering folks together for a muster drill.
That is an interesting observation. I'm sure they knew what an issue it used to be, and this actually seems to teach people more effectively.
You took the words out of my mouth. Even though they claim that they were doing research on this, they weren't going to implement it until they were forced to implement it.
If they're gonna do that, make it so you can't do anything on board (any activities or order any drinks) until you have completed it.
It's more about spacing them out.
In Singapore, this is the case now, you have to get your sea pass scanned to verify you’ve done the videos before you can use anything on board the ship or order any food/drinks
85+ cruises around the world - the worst were the ones in the heat - with a dirty orange life raft on you that thousands have had on their dirty bodies. sweating, drunk and weirdos. this seems to be better. in 2018-2019 we were inside watching on the stage.
Seems to be better? You mean absolutely incredible!!! We feel you with the hot musters
