I need a whole album of Amy doing Portishead covers. I never knew Portishead is one of her major influences but that explained why I was instantly drawn to her music.
It is so ironic she covered this song and posted it today. This song makes me think of my sister who's 20th birthday would have been tomorrow. Both Amy and I have lost sisters and I can hear the emotion in her voice. Beautiful.

Honestly, Amy could sing ANYTHING and I will LOVE. True talent and sings from her heart and soul!!
Allow me to sum up some of the comments here.
Even listening to bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation with singers who may be more technically skilled -- I do adore Amy Lee but Sharon den Adel, Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen are more consistent live with their recordings -- I keep coming back to Amy because her voice is so very emotive and expressive. It is a joy to listen to. And on a personal level, there are many songs I can connect with, whereas the other bands tend to have more far-reaching themes as opposed to personal ones.
There are very few songs from Nightwish or Within Temptation that I'd like to see Amy cover because they are so different in tone and subject from her own songs. Compare Shudder Before the Beautiful with My Heart is Broken. I listen to Nightwish for the beautiful technical skill. I listen to Amy and Evanescence for something that touches me on a more personal level with a voice that has something the other singers don't. I don't care (and can't tell) if her voice gets deeper or higher, she hasn't lost the quality that grabbed me with Fallen. The songwriting has also clearly matured and grown wonderfully since the early days.
What am I trying to say? I'm a sucker for a powerful female vocalist and Amy is still at the top of my list. Rock on, sister.
And, did anyone notice they've gained a guitarist from a German folk rock band? Jen Majura. She's quite good.

jen majura kicks major ass! i know incredible guitarists, i married one. we had a german drummer once, who thought evanescence was just a rip off, of those euro bands mentioned here. in MY opinion, absolutely not!! reason? their songs aren't that good. hers are superior, hands down. i admire all the womens strong voices, but not the material. i saw an interview with the nightwish chick, who rightly acknowledged amy for paving the way for women of their genre, internationally.

Its amazing, that you might be having a bad day, you come acrossed your favorite artist of all time. I listened to her song, and it made my pain of the day go away. As a single father of 3 kids, the road is very rough. But listening to this makes my day.

As a musician, guitar and mandolin, and I'm currently attempting to learn to play a fiddle, or violin for those who don't speak Appalachian hillbilly, I had only heard a couple of tunes on the radio by Evanescence, I'm gonna say around 15 to 18 years ago. I loved her voice, and thought the songs themselves were great but I had no idea that she was the driving force behind the band. I recently began to look into the band from a more in depth perspective at the recommendation of a friend. As I dove deeper, and listened to everything I could find, I found myself being pulled in, this woman has the ability to touch the soul with music, and I'm not referring to her powerful voice, or her songwriting skills, there have been many people throughout history that had both of those talents, both are a part of her magic, but there is something else she possess's, I can't even say with certainty what it is. Over the course of a couple of months of listening to the music she creates, I am in awe of her, her talent commands my respect as a musician, but the magical pixie dust she puts on her music gives her the power to reach into the core of my soul. As the song says" Mr. can you make folks cry when you play and sing" in my experience, very few could. She is so talented that I knew she would be a beautiful woman, before I had ever seen a picture of her, because although she is esthetically pretty, her beauty is saturate, inside and out. God would not give the power she holds to an ugly soul. I just heard her cover of Going to California for the first time, and now I will not ever be able to hear it in my head in it's original version. She OWNS it now. And, strangely enough, another singer/ songwriter I discovered about 10 months ago named Colter Wall who is 180 degrees away from the genre of music she creates, is also very much like her in his talent, just unfucking believable. The two of them combined leave me to realize I will never, ever in my wildest dreams, no matter how much I practice, or l dedicate myself to my search for it, reach the level that they possess. And as for Amy, she is actually just a little better than Colter is in the, Feel it dept. She could be dangerous to me under different circumstances, but given the opportunity, I would have to say, YOLO.🤘😎
