Am a keralite from south india, our weddings are held so so simple and elegent.Day 1 is Haldi(not compulsory ), Day 2 Bride reception, Day 3 Wedding the same day groom reception is held from evening. 🥰

@Japjeet Singh I am also north Indian. It is true our culture has be attacked by Islamic invasion and culture has been very badly affected. Southern states were not affected till now(Now even they are under attack!). So as per devdutta patnaik, north India suffered humongously on account of their culture and that it’s not the purest Vedic culture that we used to have. It’s heavily influenced by Islamic culture. Just look at your sikh brides. They don’t wear bindi. They wear salwar-kameez and sharara (influence of Islam) they even wear passa. None of that is Hindu culture. Sikhs are Hindus only no matter how much they try to go closer to Islam imitating them.
Only North Indian wedding everyone showcase is the Punjabi version. We have weddings in different manner in UP, and in all other states, I believe.

Oh, actually every culture is different. The weddings we have attended, alcohol was common but again as i said all weddings are unique and different, and we can't really give an exact info on how they are performed. This is just an overview.

South Indian weddings are more traditional but tbh North Indian weddings are so happening joyful and specially the dance and music.
Bride wear not only white saree with gold border but also coloured pattu saree....groom also wears different color dress.....Reception is done after wedding.. Now a days non veg also preferred in weddings.... Bharat also done in South Indian wedding but after marriage when bride is going to groom's house whereas in North it is done before marriage ..... We too celebrate mehandi functions not only haldi..... I'm from Hyderabad...😪😒 please give correct information

In Karnataka, we have separate event called Beegaraoota (feast for each other's sude of relatives) and Non Veg and Alcohol enters officially there.

Kerala Hindu Weddings will have fully Vegeterian menu on banana leaf. Non-veg and Alcohol will not be there in auspicious occasions. But if reception is held in good hotel then then such things may be there.

South Indian Weddings usually begins at 2-3 PM on day 1 and end at 2-3 PM on day 2.
Day 1 : Welcome, Sangeet, Varapooja, Reception (basically Fun stuff except Varapooja and people dress up as their wish)
Day 2 : Naandi, Kashiyatra (Groom), Gowri Pooja (bride), Muhurtham, Talamvaralu, Sapthapadi and Arundati Nakshatra (Just full on Religious Stuff and people wear ethnic dress)
Food is not humble just because it's served on Banana leaf and non veg not allowed at all. Food for 1 person go from 150 per plate to 2000 per plate. It depends on varieties.

Various communities exist in both regions.

I am from North (UP) and i was married in South(AP) it was a love marriage.
I was shocked with the difference in culture and styles..
But most terrifying thing was, in South they ask for dowry, then al least 50grams of golf for groom and like 3lakhs for clothes and about 7lakhs for furniture and good amount of cash
In up from boy side, clothes and jewelry comes for girl. But they didn't gave any jewelry apart from mangalsutra.
My family was ashamed and i was too. This was my biggest mistake that i got married in South india.
They got rich life style and great culture, but they treat north indians with a cheap stereotype. In marriages groom side ask alot but don't give anything.
Overall south is good for travelling and visiting but not for permanent settlement for North people.

No, not every sides of south india has same culture, time has changed and dowry is totally stopped in Mangalore bunt family, 10 years ago they asked lakhs of rupees from bride family, and now the dowry is Nil, to say. The function arangements also 50 - 50 , and we do not ask anything from groom side, until they say we do that thing, this much change has made in Mangalore bunt family.and the brides saree and all also her family responsibility only. I heard that in Telugu family , dowry should given to groom's sisters also as per what they asked, one of my neighbour said.

In southern part of India rituals vary according to their family practice. So there are lot of different you can see in the south indian wedding. So before posting any message please do your homework properly and post your message. In tamil nadu white saree in wedding is considered as bad omen. But in Kerala ther are wearing sandal colour white shaded saree during their wedding. In Southern part of tamilnadu wedding food without non veg is not allowed. Only particular community people will not eat non veg during marriage. But it is not applicable for all the marriage of south india

Though i like the subtlety and tradition of Southern rituals but would like to highlight some misrepresented facts in the video:
1.North Indians do use nakshatra muhurat timings for wedding
2.Only party area has alcohol, no mandaps even in north allows alcohol
3.Only punjabis do bhangra, no other states actually know bhangra
4.Majority of Vegetarians in the country are in North, only non vegetarians include nonveg cuisine and alcohol in their wedding.
Most of the South Indians portray us that way and then mock us for not preserving culture

Rituals are same. Haldi, mehendi, mangalsutra, garlands, ring game, kanyadaan, Havan. Non veg, alcohol are not served usually. Only few families have that. South Indian Wedding happens in day time in Wedding halls. North Indian Weddings wherever space available halls or big open grounds usually at night muhurt with horse riding entry of groom. In South India horse ride rituals were stopped one century ago!😂

in olden times too, this was done but all extended family, friends and neighbourhood came together and everything was done communally.so it was fun times not a burden. but as times progresses it has become a waste of money and time

I think the notion of "North India" is quite loosely held. What is north according to you? It doesn't include north-east Indian tradition nor the eastern Indian tradition which is very different from "North" India(physical geography of India). And for a fact, Kashmir being in north has entirely different traditional marriage ceremony. And regarding alchohol, I believe people from north(physical geography) are much more open about it. However, everyone knows the maximum revenue generated from liquor is Kerala followed by Tamil Nadu. The "loud" marriage tradition of North is limited to few regions and doesn't justify and fit into your definition of North otherwise specify what is North for you?

ring finding game is also there in andhra along with tharamralu .....Also there r more activities depending on the region ....."Edurkola" is a kind of ritual where both boys and girls side sing songs as a reply to the other side song .....they also dance in between as in barat.....bride is considered as sita and boy as ram and they argue (in a funny way)both side that sita/ram should come forward and put varamala.....Also there is a ritual called "engili" arathi where the bride during lunch will sing songs for the relatives of boys side who too while having lunch would listen to song and give gifts to the bride for the song

I think you are mistaken bcz south indians, especially men spend more money to buy western clothes than traditional. For them traditional means dothi & shirt, who said that shirt indian culture even dothi also they won't wear it perfectly.And they prefer non veg mostly & in some areas even on festivals & weddings also they will go with non veg.

Earlier their was no difference between north & south Indian weddings except the sequence of some rituals. But now north Indians are rapidly forgetting their roots due to ignorance and lack of knowledge about the oaths and rituals performed during the ceremony. Still I am proud to say that in my locality marriages are like occasion for which all relatives & neighbors dedicate atleast a month performing uncountable rituals in grand way.
Actually the major reason behind it is that we are brahmin , who are a bit more conservative for the rituals!
In short, we should not forget our roots & should influence others.
