Hi donny I watch a lot of your vids and learned a lot . Quick question bud I picked up an 038av super and it has a drum sprocket as opposed to a rim sprocket I have seen the magnum with a rim sprocket so is it possible to convert. Thanks
You're proving quite the craftsman Don! In addition to your awesome small gas engine mech abilities, your fabrication skills are great as well. Thanks as always for your videos. God bless. Rev. D.
I bought a rather large Craftsman Bearing Puller back when Craftsman was sold at Sears and Craftsman quality was the best it's ever been. I hadn't used it much, but it came in handy pulling tractor mower spindle bearings, at least the one I could get out. The other wouldn't budge, no matter what I tried. I was adding Zerk fittings because these had no way to grease them. I wanted to get the bearings out to to be able to easily get all the drilling debris out from inside, not to remove a seal from one side. A UA-camr made a video proving that the grease still comes out of the outside seal, and disassembled the spindle again, and popped a seal to show that grease did get inside to protect the ball bearings, even with both seals on both sealed bearings. I don't have a welding machine, but it sure is cool how you made that one! Thanks, Don. You're the man.
Great Job Don. I made one in High school in machine shop. You still amaze me how you can take nuts and bolts and fabricate a tool. I had to fabricate this from raw steel.
cool Video Just my luck I have had gear pullers since 1990 2 and 3 arm . I have blind hole bearing and bushing puller . along with taps for pressing out bushings . Never toss out old taps when they no longer cut threads they can be used to remove bushings .
I really enjoy your DIY video's, your fab work blows me away, but for my skill level it's a Harbor Freight gear puller $19.99 - $21.99. Keep up the great work.
Thanks alot donyboy I will make them next weekend project, one regular and another small one for small bearing, but I will use at top a socket with rachet to ease the force apply, keep it up and GBY
Amazing Jig you came up with dony one of my favorite videos you posted. hope to see more of your future genius diy work on making engine dismantlement easier in the workshop!
You made my day, could even make it a 4 hook puller. I was thinking of making the hooks red hot and dipping them to harden them too. Please tell us what oil you used here.
I guess you do not have a Harbor Freight there? I purchased a set of pullers at a yard sale a few years ago for $5 and they work great. I know they came from H.F. but sufficient for what I do. I did find this video interesting. I hate making tools if I do not have to. I found I had to working on lower end units for outboard motors. Seems every model requires a special puller. I threaded rod with various sized washers worked just fine. I got out of boat motor repair due to limited yard size. I do not want a bunch of boats in my yard and neather did the neighbors.
Hello Don, Nice job. If you got some basic tools like a welder and a grinder and some scrap steel, you can usually make the tools that you need. I think alot of this ingenuity is lost due to the availability of cheap chinese tools. Of course the Chinese tools have their advantages too. What is that little grinder your using with the roloc flapdiscs?
Brilliant bodge. My only concern is the bolt heads cut into L shape. Is it a risky weak point? Would hardening help? I wouldn't want to see a setup go 'pop.' Bolts are made to be strong there, I'm just excessively safety-OCD.
I have left a note for the person who cleans out my shed when or after I die. I draw his attention by saying initially, "Its called Improvisation". He will find an 'Aladdin's Cave' of wonderous engineering as he begins to remove one thing after the next. Some he'll even pass on down to his Grandchildren. I bet people cleaning out your shed would find very much the same....
Right, that's the point. The tip of the puller shaft will be spinning and pushing into a hard shaft to pull the bearing off, so it needs to be hard in order to not smoosh and gall and mushroom after the first use.
Dony, have you done a video explaining why can mower engines are no longer be marketed in horsepower? I've seen some very poor attempts at explanations online. You could do it better.
Nice work but can I make a suggestion regarding safety ? You shouldn't wear gloves when operating a bench grinder because if they get jammed up in the grinding wheel that can pull your hands into the wheel & rip your fingers off. In every workplace that I have worked at wearing gloves while operating a bench grinder is a no no !

I think it's the best design, for smaller applications. Nicely done and thanks for sharing Dony.

Nicely done Don. A great puller made from simple materials and great know how. I might attempt to put one of these together myself.
It's good to see someone make tools and utilize their slow time soon enough everyone will Bring in the mower for start season
Great to see good craftsmanship still exists
You are the best handy Andy man I've seen . Great video!!! 👍
I am following you for years now. You are great!!! Greetings from Greece

Very good design, I might make one. Next......a slide hammer, that indispensable tool for any workshop. Thanks for sharing.
I would say that would work just fine... for small engines. Good job.

Handy little puller👍nice job
Very helpful video as always. Thanks Don!
And you made this tool with lathe, good job sir.

Muy buena idea 💡 👍. Algo que se puede hacer rápido y resuelve el problema.
Nicely done Don.
Awesome job Don! My DIY tools don't have nearly that superb fit and finish. I almost expected to see open toed sandals on a dirt floor. 😂
Excellent video Don, thanks for sharing and keep them coming.
Wow Don! You've taken your game to a whole different level. Beautiful job!
I’ve watched many of your very informative videos Don, didn’t know you are a manufacturer too! (Wish I had a welder!) Great video, thanks!

I got out of boat repair as well, such a pain getting parts here
Creative idea man

Creative genius. My brother is good at this sort of stuff. Myself to a lesser extent 😁
Good job bro..
Hi sir please tell me what amps you used for welding please thank you sir 🙏 amazing video 🙂
That is awesome!!!!
Great job!!!!!
I like this homemade tool stuff, keep it up.
More to come!

Awsome db73, but there is a danger that you but tool manufacturing companies out business in that phase 😃😃👍👍
Well done.
shh,,, you're a wizzard man with the magic hands wow !
( I'd like to try but not sure to have your skills to make the 2 pulling legs ?! )
Nice job that was close to how I built mine.
You're quite the crafty feller
Very nice. I was just looking at bearing pullers last. There a bit spendy, more fun making a set.
Well Done ! 😃👍
Thank you! Cheers!
That is wicked
Nice job.
very ingenious🎉🎉🎉

Next time we want a NO TOOLS REQUIRED make your own bearing puller. 😂
haha yes! Bare hands!
What did you heat the tip of the screw and dip it into? What's in the glass? ❤
He turned the screw tip into tempered steel. By high heat and water.
You had the music right. Where's your sandals? Lol
very brillient
Looks great

Muito interessante
Parabéns 👏👏👏
Why do you make your own pullers? Make a cub cadet 3x 28 conversion kit to 2 x

Nice 👍🏻
Cool 😎

there is actually pullers cheaper than the material wasted on this craft,, but enjoyed watching it all the way thanks..
once this was a normal thing to make your own tools , with declining economies it will become normal again
Nice
If your sellin I’m buyin
I miss my brother building all kinds of special tools, he was really good on lather with no training
Когда много свободного времени, можно заняться этим😅

Dipping into the oil makes the metal hard basically it is Case harden

pretty cool. but after all of that, i'd rather just buy one.
This is what it should be about. doing it yourself, not spending hundreds of dollars for tools that you use once
