    That’s straight up amazing
    Brandon seems to really get what people want from VR, to just have an experience that truly feels and acts real first, then adds gameplay on top of that

    • @bestieswithtesties

      The problem is that the VR industry is a massive cash grab right now. People who can afford VR setups and also have rigs that can run all the VR games are people who have money. And the community is constantly looking for new games to try out so developers just pump out half assed games left and right because all the consumers have money to spare and desperately want new things to try out. It's an *extremely* easy way to make money. Brandon is one of the few who's actually putting in a lot of time and effort to make genuinely good games that have a lot of thought and effort behind them rather than just spewing out a game or two as fast as possible to cash in on the VR community. He's one of very few people in the industry right now who's focused on making VR better no matter how long it takes instead of being focused on getting a game out asap and cashing in as easily as possible.

    • @ilo3456
      @ilo3456 6 років тому +3

      Hooveh
      Well it is less the guns that he is showing off and more the ability to guess more parts of the body so you can see your own body and have it be interactive in the game rather than floating hands if you ask me there needs to trackers that you just above your knee so that you could track the legs better and actually have stuff like proper crouching in the game models.
      Physics interactions are the name of the game with VR the more you can interact the more real it feels, being able to hit things with your elbows is instinctive, and when your body doesn't interact with the game world it make it feels less immersive.
      But yeah if there were trackers for the legs, they would need to be two sets on each leg, one point right above the knee and one above the ankle, then you could make legs that act as legs with colliders and physics so you could knee an enemy or kick them.

      EVOLICIOUS You've completely missed the point.
      This isn't about weapon specific extra mechanics, it's about the simple physical motion of objects in the world.
      In reality, guns are just objects that can expell projectiles out the front, when this happens the returned force pushes the gun back, we call it recoil.
      In pretty much all games we've been faking it, only now have we got physics engines that are stable enough to even do this.
      This is the next step in the evolution of VR... Not to mention how they've softened all the object grabbing so well it makes it look far more real!

    You could use that "reward you for moving at slo mo pace" system to make better melee. Make melee weapons have a max speed, heavier the weapon, slower the speed. If you move faster than optimal, the damage is nerfed.

      If I interpreted the original post correctly he wasn't talking about anything that would cause desync. He was talking about a reward system based on the user moving at the correct acceleration rate based on a weapons weight. It's a great idea, you could have some sort of indication that you are moving the sword or whatever at the right pace for maximum damage. You could also make it so that when your character levels up it can allow you to swing the weapon at a faster rate for maximum damage. It's kind of a forced role play, I think it could work great, but it could also be annoying for some players.

    • @1111Tactical
      @1111Tactical 6 років тому +8

      It's less annoying than people "spam swording' and exploiting the lack of real weight.
      You could make the feed back the typical sword "swooshing" sound, it won't play when you swing too fast to build momentum. If you swing at the appropriate speed, it will play.

      I can tell Stresslevelzero has been working hard, but they don't have the experience or the know-how like Anton and his team have. There are plenty of dev videos to check out on H3VR to prove my case.

    Like 1 year ago I was completely sure that VR is going to die soon and never will hit a remarkable steady hype due to its limitations and price. However after watching some videos where the latest VR tech was shown I changed my mind. This is incredible. I'm still going to wait a couple years though and I'm really excited about whats going to come in the future.

    • @peach9721
      @peach9721 6 років тому +9

      Philip Danzinger tech usually improves over time, odd that you'd assume VR would fail when it itself was a massive innovation

    • @no_alias_for_me
      @no_alias_for_me 6 років тому +13

      Yeah I know that but it doesn't always progress in a rate which you think it would. If the technology behind VR progresses too slowly they hype would die before its affordable. The headsets and the tracking software isn't everything which matters in this case. Whole concepts for games and money is needed and said money mostly comes from companies which can profit from this tech. If there is no demand due to high costs and lack of content nobody is going to finance this.
      Many technologies failed because of this. Even VR failed many times before. What it needs is the right time and the right tech which seems to be the case. I just didn't realize that we are actually in this era right now which is a great thing!

    • @Der_Z0nK
      @Der_Z0nK 6 років тому +5

      Still odd. Every VR critic pointed out that VR failed many times before. While that's correct, all the previous attempts were isolated attempts of single companies AND with crappy tech. At the beginning of the current cycle, just the amount of companies that worked on VR/AR solutions should have been enough to indicate that things are different this time. People have realized that our technology is finally good enough to provide sufficient early adopter experience, which could quickly be developed into a mass market product (which is happening right now, with Rift 2 and Vive 2 forecasting their shadows for possible 2019 releases).
      Also, while you can of course wait for retina grade displays and thought controls, let me tell you that miss out on a lot of the first generation fun. I feel like I'm experiencing the same development, as many years ago from the SNES to N64 and then to high-res PC gaming. Wouldn't miss it for anything in the world. I spend my evenings playing Onward and Echo Arena, while all the pancake AAA-titles catch dust in my libraries.

    • @benkroon3862

      I've seen a lot of people proclaim VR is already dead because they intuit that adoption should follow a linear scale as opposed to exponential. I hope you get a chance to try some of the current gen tech (e.g. vive pro)... you might rethink how long you want to wait before jumping in.

    • @evolicious
      @evolicious 6 років тому

      lol, no. There are far more complex gun mechanics and shooters already available with much more work involved in them and they hardly make any profit.
      Streelevelzero won't make much of anything (especially looking at their track record), but they are pushing VR in a direction we all want. All we can do is hope enough VR owners buy the game to get the attention of developers to help boost the push for a larger VR market.

    • @bestieswithtesties
      @bestieswithtesties 6 років тому +19

      EVOLICIOUS You're kidding right? Stress Level Zero has a great track record, there's a reason they can afford to commit all their time to things like this. Their games have done extremely well. On top of that, there are hardly any games out there with more complex mechanics than this. This engine is without a doubt a massive innovator in the current VR world. Anyone who *is* innovating in VR either makes massive profits or they are on track too. Creating a complex engine isn't meant to turn a profit over night, the money starts rolling in over a long period of time from all the developers that want to use the engine. If Stress Level Zero's engine gets popular enough they are without a doubt on track to be a multi-million dollar company. It's not going to happen from selling one game, it's going to happen when developers start lining up to use the engine in their games. Which Will happen judging by this video. There are very few other engines/developers out there on the same level as this. This engine could very easily dominate the VR space if they keep up the good work and don't take too long. They have very very few competitors to worry about.

H3VR is fun but will always be a single player experience. If this was to be MP and have these mechanics even if not realistic would be really fun. Pavlov has shitty mechanics, BAM has better mechanics but cheesy, H3VR has perfect mechanics and this does as well but in a different style. Onwards mechanics are good as well but no where near H3VR. Have yet to see a game where you can use both hands and have the same controls in each hand & move with both hands.

    I'd love to see Brandon's take on VR swords. Physical interaction/leverage, weight in the swings, edge alignment, and not letting you eviscerate enemies by waggling at them.
    He could make the first good Sword Art Online/GGO. Full motion normal attacks, pose for supers, full motion shooting with Superhot lines before the shot. Fuck yeah.

    • @luckycat624
      @luckycat624 6 років тому +3

      Densoro the problem with the weight is that you can't physically stop or slow down a persons hand in VR Games, which is a problem with any VR game with any weapons.

    • @Densoro
      @Densoro 6 років тому +3

      The Lunar Gamer Right, and I'd been trying to think of a workaround for a while, but any VR game with blocking or recoil has already shown us a roadmap. Essentially, your weapon virtually stops at the point of contact, but tries to 'follow through' the obstruction to align with your hand.
      We're seeing an element of that with Brandon's recoil as well: your hand doesn't kick back with the recoil, but the virtual force kicks your weapon out of alignment with your hand, and then drifts back into alignment as the force subsides.

    • @Bionicleguy98
      @Bionicleguy98 6 років тому +1

      if you've ever played GORN its a great example of how to do melee combat with swords in vr IMO. the weapons all bend if you swing too slow, so if you want to do damage, you actually have to give it a good swing at your enemy and its VERY satisfying to decapitate enemies in GORN with a powerful swing

    • @comatose1818
      @comatose1818 6 років тому

      Densoro the colision could be as if it stopped but it slips from the grasp slightly like when you hit a tree with a stick the force on the stick breaks the alignment of your arm and wrist while your arm continues forward, while it would not simulate the strike force fully it would give an ilusion of colision or the workarround Gorn had with the floppy weapons but that is a far cry from what happens in real life, it's still fun though

    • @Densoro
      @Densoro 6 років тому +1

      Tu fenix shidori :v That sounds about right, yeah. The 'floppy' doesn't have to be in the sword. It can just be your wrist (and thus your weapon) going, 'I want to go (there) but I am physically stuck (here), straining to push through to the other side.'
      The magnitude of this stop should depend on leverage. You have weak leverage at the tip of your blade, but the closer you get to your hand, the harder you are to move. A long grip like a spear gives you a longer 'strong leverage' space along the length of your weapon, as does edge alignment.
