    I'm relatively new to using a drop shot. But what I've done since I was a kid to find fish is a hook and small splitshot with a small worm, cast and barely reel it in. Probably does almost the same thing as the dropshot but stays more on the bottom. I can get it through quite a few weeds doing it that way too.

    • @DWSOutdoors
      @DWSOutdoors  5 років тому

      Stephen Peterson with the drop shot it allows you to keep the bait a fixed depth above the bottom so you can see where the fish are actually sitting relative to the bottom 👊🏼🎣

      @@DWSOutdoors but the issue becomes how deep? A drop shot, at least all of the ones I've used, is not very easy to adjust without re-tying. I catch a ton of gills just dragging a hook and split shot rig through the weeds. What fish I'm missing, I know, are the ones feeding up way higher and that's where the drop shot has an advantage. I'm always trying new things though and drop shots are one of them.

    • @DWSOutdoors
      @DWSOutdoors  5 років тому

      Try making your dropper longer first and work your way to shorter as you go and you'll be surprised at the different fish you catch!

      @@paulnokio1199 the older ugly sticks actually had lifetime warranties. Now I think they're 10 years, which is still outstanding. Ha. I’ve used those red-white tube jugs for over thirty years.
      They work 90% of the time.
      Usually any lure with the red-white colour combo or flashy silver on clear normal days. Maybe a gold metallic finish in some waters.
      Then on off days , unusually cloudy, storm that just won’t rain humid summer time, when nothing works I’ll try black/ yellow combo. Like the Mepps Fury Spinner.
      Of course the beetle spin for slower and deeper along a weedbed edge for bass.
      Purple worm with flat auger tail.
      At night we use black jitterbug
      Just got this new brand from a japan designer. Z--- something.... like a Rapala minnow but chrome shiny.
      Bass hitting good on it.
      Oh yeah..... red white Daredevil spoons in Wisconsin took the pike when we went up there.
      15-20 feet deep.... August.
      And on one lake it was big mepps agila spinners fast retrieving over weeds in 12 feet clear water. Musky and Northern. Thanks

      Goats and Greens Homestead most times I’m nice 😂 I’d rather they get tossed in the water then flop around and get messed up in the boat... they really don’t give you a whole lot of options when they are small to handle them safely...
