My FAVORITE Mid-Summer PANFISH RIG!!

HELLO and WELCOME to another SHOP TALK video! This week, I'm running through my FAVORITE mid-summer panfish rig of all time - the "Monona Rig" or "Gene Rig", or "100 different names for the same thing" rig. Although it's super simple, this rig consistently puts big, sometimes finicky, panfish in the boat. Live bait, plastics, even trout flies work great on this rig, and we catch so much more than just panfish on it, too! (PSSSTT....it works great for super finicky walleyes).
The real keys to this simple rig are:
Slightly opening the bend of the jig to increase the size of the hook gap (makes a BIG difference)
Using Fluorocarbon or a Co-Polymer line for your leader (the little over hand knots that naturally form in the leader will, over time, cut the line if you use monofilament)
