An old platoon sergeant of mine used to say, "Let's eat this apple one bite at a time," whenever we faced a large or complicated task. Your boulder into rocks analogy reminded me of that.
Thanks for the vid. You are beautiful and uplifting.

Splitting a huge task into many mini-tasks and then completing one at a time without worrying too much about all the others is a great trick to reduce stress, while still doing the same or more of the work. In a pinch, you can even choose to skip a minitask if the process allows it, or delegate it to other people.

I have known I was struggling with burnout for a while now but I keep getting stuck on how to fix it. Just the idea of figuring out a single step forward has felt like too much and to be honest I spent most of today sitting on my couch and spiraling because everything felt so monumental. A friend sent me this and I don’t know what recovery will look like for me this time but this feels like concrete ideas and a start. It feels like a lifeline.
I’m sorry you’ve been through this because I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. But know that this video said the right things at the right time to give a stranger the hope they needed.
Thank you. For your music, your vulnerability, and your truth. It means the world.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 18 днів тому +1

Sitting on the couch generally doesn't help things get better, though you don't have to feel guilty at all for doing it, as it is quite normal in such a situation.
The best thing I ever did was taking walks in nature, that improved my mood most of all and especially if you can do it with someone you love or enjoy spending time with, it can be a very helpful thing. Also, even if it doesn't make you feel good at the time, it can give you great memories to look back on later, when the feeling of dread or anxiety that you might have felt at the time is no longer connected to the memory. (that will start to fade even after a day or so, as a new day brings new stresses)

Well…I definitely needed to hear that today. Thank you.
I’m kind of going through burnout myself in 2024. I lost my dad on March 8, and 22 days later, I lost my mom. So, dealing with that double loss, plus balancing work commitments as well as trying to manage my own anxiety…it’s been a lot. I’m going to take some grief counselling soon to try and make sense of things because this year has been very taxing.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 18 днів тому +1

That sounds really harsh, I'm very sorry for all of that to have happened to you in such a short timeframe. Losing our parents is something we all need to go through at some point in our lives, but it can happen way sooner or in a much more dramatic way than we would want and it is already one of the hardest things to experience to begin with.
Don't be afraid to take your time with it. I don't think there are many situations where you couldn't at least work a little bit less for a short while, nearly anyone would understand if you did. As long as you are clear in what happened and what you need, you can generally convince any sane person to give you some much needed time off in your situation. Try to be kind to yourself, take the time to grieve and know that time will heal some of it eventually.
As someone that has lost both my parents in less than a year's time (which was for me six years ago) I do heavily empathize with your story. For me, the feeling of loss healed very slowly, but eventually those feelings got replaced by a bit of longing and feelings of love. I now have a lot of great memories that come up when I think about them and no longer that intense pain. Maybe that idea will give you some hope for the long term future. I wish you all the very best and the strength to go through whatever comes your way.

    • @loverlyme
      @loverlyme 5 днів тому

I'm so sorry that you've had to endure the loss of both parents in the same year. I'm sure they were people who would hold you up when you felt like you needed it. Don't feel bad when you're not 'over the loss' when others expect you to be. I lost my sister 29 years ago. It took me the first 20 years to not cry every time I thought of her and what her life had become.
There are LOADS of us out here who do not cope well with our mental state. Just look back to this page and all the comments from others who have felt without hope, support or purpose recently. Even if we are a long way apart physically, we can be here for one another digitally, and in spirit. Even if we feel we are alone in these trials, look on this page and see how many of us are 'alone' in this problem. We are NOT alone. We are here, on this page, pouring our hearts out to one another. And that's okay.

I have struggled recently myself. I played clarinet in high school and I've always wanted to be able to sing like you. I found your channel last week as I was scrolling through UA-cam shorts and hearing your songs, they were enchanting to me. I was struggling before I saw your videos and every time I heard your voice it reminded me of a mermaid singing. No I don't mean one of those mermaids that sing to kill sailors. I work in a pet store and my job is very demanding. I love working with the animals, but my main duty is merchandising. I felt completely burnt out. When I was listening to your songs, it felt like it was lifting a bunch of weight off of my shoulders. I enjoy marine biology. I love the ocean and one of the animals I'd like to specialize in is a dolphin. Your song helps me keep going to pursue my dream career. I wish I could meet you and thank you in person.

Also this is from Chat GPT, could you make this into a song?
      The Ballad of Erin's Ocean
      (Verse 1)
Oh, the sea it calls to me, from the cliffs of old Kilkee,
Where the waves they kiss the sky, and the seabirds freely fly,
With a heart so wild and free, I’ll set sail for mystery,
On the shores of Erin's isle, I'll remember with a smile.
      (Chorus)
Sing, oh sing, the ocean's song,
Where the tides have danced so long,
In the whispers of the breeze,
Feel the tales of ancient seas.
      (Verse 2)
In the morning mist so gray, hear the fishermen at bay,
Casting nets into the deep, where the hidden treasures sleep,
With the rolling of the tide, tales of mermaids they confide,
In the heart of every wave, lie the dreams of those who brave.
      (Chorus)
Sing, oh sing, the ocean's song,
Where the tides have danced so long,
In the whispers of the breeze,
Feel the tales of ancient seas.
      (Bridge)
From the harbors to the reefs, hear the sailors’ tales and griefs,
Of the storms that fiercely blow, and the love they’ll never know,
But in every tempest’s roar, there’s a promise to the shore,
That the sea will bring them home, nevermore to roam alone.
      (Verse 3)
As the twilight paints the sky, watch the lanterns passing by,
Guiding ships with gentle light, through the long and restless night,
With a heart that's bold and true, I’ll return to waters blue,
For the sea will always be, a sweet song of memory.
      (Chorus)
Sing, oh sing, the ocean's song,
Where the tides have danced so long,
In the whispers of the breeze,
Feel the tales of ancient seas.
      (Outro)
So I raise a toast to thee, Erin's ocean wild and free,
May your waves forever roll, in the stories of my soul,
For the sea, it calls to me, from the cliffs of old Kilkee,
And the song of Erin's sea, will forever live in me.

Feeling called out by tip #9. I have been working very hard to get better (sometimes by doing nothing, a lot of times by trying to be active in learning ways to better deal with all the stuff and applying those things) and every time I feel like I'm finally getting better, and it's taken forever to get this far, I get a reminder of how much further I have left to go, and it's very frustrating and disheartening. All this pressure I put on myself is learned behavior, and trying to unlearn it when most people in my life still expect me to be that person I was is just... So hard. Ugh!
Thank you for sharing this. It makes me feel less alone. Sending good vibes you way!

Food tip - stock healthy snacks. Have a bag of apples, clementines, a bunch of applesauce pouches, trail mix pouches, and/or big bag of baby carrots. Make it easy to snack on light, healthy foods. Goldfish and chocolate bars are easy and yummy, but what about a pouch of applesauce and a handful of nuts? Or trail mix with a couple m&ms mixed in? Easy and way better fuel.

Thank you for sharing your story!
I especially appreciated the final tip about not rushing the process. I have been dealing with burnout for a while now-and even though I quit the job that was causing this over a year ago, I am still very much on my recovery path.
In fact, my therapist even told me that it often takes about two years on average to recover from severe burnout-and that journey is often not linear and looks different for everyone.
Unfortunately, I found that many people don’t understand this, pushing me to “get over it” quickly and not address the underlying stressors.
So again, thank you for acknowledging how serious burnout is, how it affects your entire body, and how the healing journey is going to be different from everyone.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 18 днів тому

I think you are smart to realize this process takes time. And about it not being linear, it is really a three steps forward, two steps back, one step forward kinda thing. The ups and the downs are all part of it, even though it can be really demoralizing once you have a big setback after a better period.

You are the reason that I have a future ahead of me, and I mean that genuinely. After you made the video about Arfid, i realized that that might be me and it turns out I have a very strong case that could have progressed into a life threatening situation in the future. Ive now been getting therapy and have recently been able to eat an entire chicken nugget in only 8 bites!!! Genuinely I couldn't be more thankful, if it wasn't for you I'd still be assuming I was just broken or something for not being able to eat anything but bread. Keep being amazing❤❤❤❤

"do the bare minimum" - me with my job as they've become ever more insane with their expectations (but aren't even paying us more to accommodate for that)
once I started doing that, within a few weeks I felt so much better. I've started drawing again! I haven't drawn in like 10 years! I feel so good now. And all I had to do was look at my job, realize it didn't deserve my energy, and give it the energy it deserved lol.
I also do the food planning thing, but I tend to eat the same thing almost every day. And thats not a sad thing for me, I really get into a groove where I want a specific flavor for long periods of time. So I used that to my advantage and found some foods that are easy to prep a week in advance so I can have two meals every day already planned so I don't end up stressed over food, and the food I do eat makes me feel good and happy (and its healthy too, lots of veggies).
I don't know if I fully burned out, based on what people described, but I definitely was at a boiling point last year. And I feel so much better now.

This world system can make you work really hard and all for nothing. If all you have to live for is the perishing things of this world you will get burnt out sooner or later.
