  • Bucaramanga: fun to say and fun to visit!
    Unfortunately, our brakes had had enough, dying on the mechanic's doorstep. The cross-town moto deliveryman brought only bad news -- no spare parts were to be found. All of this on a holiday... would we be sleeping in a mechanic's garage in an unsafe area of town?
    Beyond that debacle, a tour of Bucaramanga's enormous skatepark, multiple acts of kindness by strangers lift our day, and we set off on a picturesque roadtrip into the high-altitude wilderness of Colombia.

      We’re heading back to Mexico in our van but we say nothing. Just this morning a guy in a truck came by to chat and he talked of Mexico like it was filled with bandits. We said nothing about going south of Texas . Not going to change his mind. If you want to go, go. They don’t hold active shooter drills in Mexican classrooms. Violence is how you see it

    So happy things have been going good and people have been kind and helpful to you. Another big city and this one seems to be a cool one. Not a shock Danny you found another skate park and it was a really an awesome one. Hard to believe you two found that huge chicken dinner at that price. To think that guy just off the street would offer to help get the phone. Unknown surprises!
    Happy to see you're off again to the mountains and some nice cool temps and awesome hiking trails. Critters will be happy...

      Well health system is not expensive, there's no problem regarding quality but there's not enough doctors for all over the country in the public system which is free for low income people and those who work pay some percentage from the salaries to maintain the system... However, there private insurance called " medicina prepagada" that is pretty good and works perfectly.

    in the old days midus used to replace brake pads with asbestos brake pads... they never needed to be replaced... they lasted as long as the car lasted... just clean them out every now and then - they would get a little noisy (dusty/dirty)?

    • @the.vandersons
      @the.vandersons  2 роки тому

      Wow! That's wild. Yeah, ours are super squeaky so we might replace them anyway

    • @GaryDerry11
      @GaryDerry11 2 роки тому

      @@the.vandersons Asbestos brakes are squeaky. A little oil on them quiets them for a while. Cleaning out the dust in them also makes them squeak less. [for a little while] I just learned to accept the squeaking and be thankful for how long the brakes lasted-until the cars died. I spent the money on other things rather than replacing quieter brake shoes all of the time. Of course your experience may be different.

    I am now a binge watcher! I was hoping to do part of this by catamaran, but the sailing life is so expensive I think travel by van might be the more economical way. When I traveled in Colombia last, some 48 years ago, it was dangerous to move from city to city and there were soldiers and checkpoints everywhere. I wonder if you are running into check points and if you feel safe traveling in the mountains?

    • @the.vandersons
