Great video thanks. I am disappointed with the negative comments re camera work. Lighten up people. It's a free video for your benefit. Show some gratitude instead of complaining about trivial stuff. Good work and very informative.

I came here looking for some basic information about tig welders because I have been wanting to buy one for quite sometime. They are the Rolls Royce of the welders in my mind so finding out anything useful to help me make a decision as to what I should be looking for in a machine was what I really wanted to know. Instead I got to see your show and after watching it I realized that I needed to hear everything that you had to say way before selecting a machine. I was very impressed with how well you covered everything from the parts of the machine all the way down to the safety and welding procedure itself. It has been over 30 years since I have done any welding and your video helped me remember many of the things that I have forgotten over the years. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and I have to say in all honesty that you would make a great teacher if that is not already your job as an instructor somewhere. My hat is off to you sir. You did a really fine job covering so much information so quickly. I'm glad I stayed for the whole show. Thanks, JMF Greensboro, N.C.

I have been considering getting into TIG for a while now but was a little concerned about a lack of knowledge of the basic-basics (grinding electrodes, stick out, gas pressure, etc.). Your two videos are without a doubt the best I have ever watched on basic Tig. You covered it all including how to move, dip, etc. Videos done about Basic Tig by most other people don't get basic enough. Great Job!!!
FYI -- I started Mig welding with a "Open Box" Eastwood MIG 135 from the Alsip store. After a very short time the machine quit working right, So, I took it back to the store where they tried it out. It was in fact a bad unit and without any hassle they were going to exchange it. But, I decided to upgrade to a new Mig 175. I've had the Mig 175 for about a year and absolutely love it. IMO the people at the Alsip store and Eastwood are top notch.
After watching the Basic TIG videos that you have done I am now ready to pull the trigger and get the ac/dc tig machine as soon as I can come up with cash. Thanks for the great videos.

Seriously, this guy covered just about everything! He did everything that has been said to me over the years. If you never did this before this is definitely for you. He constantly adjusted his tungsten stick out but didn't really say why. You don't want the tungsten to stick out so far that you touch your metal or your filler wire. You can set your stick out where ever you want it, but there is such a thing as too far. Practice all you can on this good clean metal, when it comes to dirty metal you will be challenged. Sometimes you just cant pick good clean metal to weld on. When it comes to stainless and aluminum always use new grinding disks that have never touched anything before. I do the same thing that he does with his hand wire brushes with my grinding wheels. Yes, the camera man should have used the tripod.

This may have been stated but for beginners its useful to think of the following: The electrode is puddleing the base metal of both parts and its possible to fuse the two together without filler rod. However for an optimum weld filler rod is added. The electrode will push the puddle forward and filler rod keeps the puddle replenished.

great video it's nice to see a company shoot in a raw type of format makes it seem real like it was shot in a guy cave. Keep up the good work and thanks. After watching this I went out and did my first few hrs on new tig machine and it's not as easy as it looks but I did ok and never once smoked the tungsten rod. I used your advise and just made a bunch of passes without any filler then did the filler. Pushing the metal rod with the fingers is not easy.

OK, in this part 2 you answered my previous question that I asked in part one, namely how to complete the circuit and how best not to get shocked. However I thought of another question. Does the filler rod get inserted into the leading edge of the puddle only, and that's how it melts, or is the filler rod actually in the plasma stream and that's what melts it?
