    Your didn't mention two things for newbies. 1) some electrodes contain thorium. These must not be ground on a belt sander because of the risk of inhaling radioactive particles. 2) Where exactly does the current run, and how best to avoid becoming part of the circuit. Using high amperage is scary for beginners and they will shake less if they are not worried about getting shocked. OK, so they should probably start with a stick welder but some start with TIG because they know it is best.

    I’m so new I’ve not even bought a welding machine yet! I know people say a gasless MIG welder is the easiest to learn but I think I will be welding a lot of aluminium when I start. No one seems to like the spool guns too much and MMA is pretty dirty. Taking everything into consideration am I better going straight to TIG welding?
    Great presentation, thank you.

    how do I calculate the amps on different types of metals?(stainless, iron.....)
    what happens if you use more amperage then you need?(hot)
    would I make a hole on the surface or break the machine?

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  7 років тому +6

      Using more amperage would increase the heat, so you would let off on the pedal to decrease the heat as you weld. There is a chart on the machine that will allow you to set it up correctly for the material and thickness you are welding.

    I picked up a TIG200 and I love it. The hose from the bottle to the back of the unit is a little meh. The construction of the unit is really nice and the feel of the controls is really stable. The regulator is decent. I really like the torch and how it feels. The pedal is really nice as well. I bought it from you all while you had a sale. Shipping was quick. The part I dont understand is in your video you say that TIG welding takes both hands, so why do you offer a mask in it that is hand held? I am appreciate the free mask and Im sure when Im showing my son how to weld it will come in handy. But its kind of a waste for the company to include it.
    But the Unit overall is great and it can take a beginner from zero to producing quality work in a short period. Thanks for the vids. Im sure we will be buying more stuff.

    • @wraithvendeta
      @wraithvendeta 6 років тому +1

      Thomas West the hand held mask is an observer's mask. So someone can grab it and watch. My inatructor used one a lot with my class

      I just bought one the other day. I weld as a hobby and started with a scratch start Lincoln and have now moved to the Eastwood. I wanted to try a high freq start machine without spending thousands on a bigger brand name. Thus far, it's been a good machine for me. I'm not sure how it would perform in a production setting but I think it will be a great machine for garage use.

  • @jozzerful2
    @jozzerful2 9 років тому

    Talking about not being able, to see out of your mask, when using lower amp, mister tig welded two sheets of aluminium tin foil that you wrap your sandwiches with lol,and he managed to weld both of them together, and he was using only 3 amps 2 and a half to 3 amps but he was able to see, by swapping out the inside shield on his mask for better visibility, because tree arms you would not see through a normal mask.

    After all the yrs. I'v welded I still don't understand The D C switch ! I know this may sound Like a STUPID ? 'but I'll ask it any way . Can you hook up a T I G to the Batt. of a car ' or Truck & Use that as your power supply ? If so would U have to switch the what I call finger's around inside the welder ???

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  7 років тому +1

      When the switch is on DC, the TIG will weld steel. When the switch is turned to AC it will weld aluminum. Some welders are only DC and will only weld steel. Some are AC/DC and will weld both. The Eastwood TIG welders operate off standard household current, either 120 or 240. I hope this answers your question.
