Thanks for your kind words pal.I grew up on stories of The Crown in Cricklewood etc...Nice to hear the sacrifices the older Irish generations made was appreciated by the locals.
Was in Cricklewood for the ABCs with Ulster GAA last September. Had to make sure to have a pint in the crown. Went to lucky 7s round the corner as well.
What a FANTASTIC unique voice Ronnie had so pure .l absolutely adored him .They were 1 of the best entertainers in and around lreland and abroad. Miss Ronnie @ Luke. Actually they were all brilliant .Thanks for all the great years you had us up on our feet dancing and clapping and singing all together.❤❤❤❤❤ ELIZABETH xx❤❤❤❤❤
We were married a year or two and struggling to make ends meet. Went in to a local music store and started rummaging through the Discount Record Bin. Found 7 albums by the Dubliners.........BOUGHT THE LOT. LOL Figured She would be CROSS, may as well really PISS HER OFF. lol Still listening to these ROUGES..............! { still married-47 yrs now. hahahahaha}
Have loved the Dubliners for many years. Ask your wife if she agrees, that there was an incredibly good looking man hiding under that beard. But who cares.
This is possibly the classic song about the Irish experience in England. And just listen to the way that Ronnie Drew delivers it. Someone who could recognise the talent of Luke Kelly, and let him take front and centre in the group which was originally called The Ronnie Drew Quartet (and guess who suggested the name 'The Dubliners'?) but who in their own right was equally incomparable in their own way. Just watch Ronnie with an audience.
At the time this was filmed there was only 4 members in The Dubliners, that being Ronnie, Sean, Barney and John. The other 3 guitarists, Jim, Paddy and Eamonn were special guests.

@@marielivingstone5369 What does being Irish have to do with being of the opinion this is not a good version of this particular song...? I have to say, I do agree, there are far better versions of Ronnie Drew doing this particular song.
A worthy tribute to the men who built Britain's canals, railways, motorways and much else.

Great tune
Crikey, the like of that will never be seen again! Amazing
What a voice, what a band, what a story!

My dad worked for McAlpine in England back in the day. Brought money back when it was scarce. Many a family too.
Absolute magic.. As a Dub, bravo to our Kerry brothers and sisters...
My father came back from the Congo in 61 and left the army and off to London, worked in Cricklewood, Hendon.
