Growing up in the 70s in Southern England it was annoying to see how our neighbouring Regional TV station had more programmes appealing to children thanks to the listings in the Bournemouth Echo who’s editorial area went westwards. In 1990 ,on a winter Sunday afternoon , having only 4 terrestrial channels with the ‘ local ‘ station offering ancient b & w movies whilst the West region had Soccer highlights of their teams , I decided to do something about it. Thanks to my ‘ IBA 1978 yearbook ‘ I purchased an 18 E ( with correct coloured tip ) & a 10ft pole cow lashing kit & good cable and soon excitedly tuned-up beyond the generally blank world above ch 37...sure enough , from 53 miles away and behind a 900 foot ridge 25 miles in between, the transmission on 54 & 57 ( I think ) was ok but 61 which I wanted was a bit grainy whilst 65 which didn’t matter was grainy as hell. Fitted an in- line booster & it was fine except during topo weather - sometimes tho it was perfect. Eventually the kids fought for satellite and the Ariel got spun to pick up the C5 signal. Now , 30 years later , I inherited a huge high gain and expensive Ariel and keep meaning to put it atop my old lashing bracket just to get the regional news from over the hills although now digital. I can’t help needing to do this - I completely get the whole RF thing in spite not being an electronics buff , the thing about collecting energy from a mast upon a distant hill seems so weird to some but I’m gonna come outa ‘ anorak ‘ retirement and see if it works. The dipole on the original is tiny so this baby must do better with its butterfly wing shaped dipoles twice the size. Thanks for your work fella. Love from wessexshire
I do not wish to steal your thunder. However, here is one for you. Amplify antenna signal by way of the existing VCR/ DVD back end input section instead of buying a booster. Then utilize the external antenna outside or indoor.
Avoid having the electric wire overlapping or crisscrosing or rubbing against the digital cable line.
PS: Do plan ahead take time or meditate when setting up different wires. Where they end up going to connect and go out and how many of these do I need digital/ coaxial cables. It is imperative to take advantage of line one usage .
Use TV "line one" channel setting .The RCA cable is for it. Just in case digital cable for the input is the last coaxial wire you've got, TV needs one. Hard to get or too short in length. Costs is the key here , more RCA mixed and match. Coaxial cable is noise resistant I hear.

Been working for near 2 weeks to fix. My indoor antenna does better than my outdoor antenna - I can watch near 90 channels and I get strong signal strength yet something ruined my outdoor antenna reception on the other TV the video pixelates and pulsates with pulsating sound? All these attempts to fix it then to find how simple it was to fix - just unplug the TV for a minute and plug in again and reception is back to normal.

Lost signal for all ABC Channel's, the rest were fine. Discovered that after someone went up into the ceiling a cable was moved and sitting on top of a power cord. Moved it and ABC came back.

I have an omni-directional antenna when I installed it on the roof, the signal reception was good, and most of the stations were visible, but when I installed this antenna higher (8 feet from the roof) the signal changed weak, there is a strange phenomenon that I need to add a reflector (the reflector at the back of general directional antenna) on top of this antenna will then to received signals and see all the stations. I don't know why Mr. Jim knows the reason and what advice does it has? I wish the antenna reflector could be removed.

I didn't get perfect antenna signal before the antenna cable was rolled inside aluminum foil where it shares ducting with hdmi cables. Digital signals from regular TV antennas are apparently super sensitive towards interference from other cables. My ducting was only 20cm. But it was still enough to ruin signals on 4-5 TV channels.
Joe, come fix my reception problem. New antenna ,new coaxial socket,new tv cable..worked for a bit then loses signal once in awhile. What’s going on? I am in Melbourne

great vid, but plz HELP me , im in anew build and had to put my own tv aerial in, brought my self one of them tri boom aerials along with a labgear 2 way amplifier, put in loft 1st go round BRILL all was sorted got 90% on tv signal, but then i read that if my cable to my aerial is long, which mine was it was 10meters, was to cut it down, so i did , i cut it to about a meter ? BANG nothing, i cant get half the channels i did before, ive replaced the F type plugs on both ends but still no good , dont understand , it worked brill i had all channels, even HD chs but cant get no more then 30 chds now, why, any help be very greatful.

I bought three different antennas for tv and still unable to get the channels...

LTE interference, sounds like a load of crock. Ch31 the highest frequency at 557.625MHz is well below the minimum 4G frequency of 700Mhz. More likely to be an issue with the El-Cheapo TV's having front end overload rather than antenna or coax cable quality.

Freeview is the worst broadcasting there is,how our government allowed these channels to operate on such a bitrate bewildered me,America has something on these lines but all are at least in HD and thats the fg weather channels.
