But nothing could have really prepared me for the experience. You guys did a phenomenal job on the remaster, and the music for Xen is truly something special.
I love the Ascension part. The alien controllers were becoming more desperate as they pulled the elevator back down in order to stop Gordon Freeman from reaching up top.
Finally played Black Mesa, finished it today after getting it on the sale. I've always been hyped for it because the original Half-Life is one of my favorite games of all time, but just never got around to it - and it's still brilliant. Most of it is a pretty faithful remake of the original, a little easier in some places and a little harder in others, with On A Rail being the biggest departure from the original by taking a different but recognizable approach that makes it superior to the original chapter. But Xen - oh, Xen. Talk about changing for the better - I actually like Xen in the original, but I know most people think it's the worst part of the game by far and I can totally understand why. By contrast, Xen in Black Mesa is absolutely something else. Gonarch's Lair, Interloper and Nihilath are better too in many ways - but the level Xen itself is so beautiful, really taking advantage of the opportunity to create a wild, vibrant alien landscape and carrying the player through it with constant activity, interspersed with some brief dips down into Half-Life's horror roots to break up the flow and keep it from being too samey - and the music, this music, is just perfect for it. 10/10 would play again, 10/10 soundtrack will listen to over and over.
When I saw Xen for the first time, and heard that music, I thought "Yeah, this is special". The music and other sounds and the visuals all perfectly encapsulated the feeling of wonder and dread that I think Xen was always meant to have.
Black Mesa will go into the history books as one of the greatest remakes ever but you cannot have it go there without this OST. This soundtrack adds a layer to Black Mesa that it couldn't have achieved without. Absolutely one of the greatest gaming soundtracks, period. When my buddies ask me what are some of my favorite games of all time. I reference Black Mesa, but not without telling them, not only is the game amazing, it has an incredible soundtrack that will blow your mind if you go from beginning to end.
This Xen felt like a huge reward, in sense of dangerous/risky experiments using the full knowledge of mankind's science capability and technology which resulted in an divine/angelic discovery of a new dimension yet came in huge consequence. An old saying describes this situation pretty good imo: "He who wants the rose must respect the thorn."
This soundtrack sounds so serene, and yet so haunting. I have yet to play the game but from what I’ve seen and heard, I believe I am in for a truly incredible experience. I’m looking forward to completely losing myself in the moment as I struggle frantically with the gonarch in an epic fight to the death. They need to bring out a movie of this!
Half life xen wasn't bad, it was just annoying in some parts and not the prettiest part of the game. Keep in mind that it was made in 1998, so the tech they had couldn't handle something even remotely as beautiful as Black Mesa xen.
I just realised that the I-part of the Lambda-letter from "Black Mesa" kind of looks like a crowbar. Gordon Freeman confirmed. On a serious sidenote: I really love "Entangled". When I heard it the first time ingame, I felt so drawn to it like I haven't felt in a long time. It really connected to the little child playing Half-Life for the first time when it was new.
It's difficult to refuse a game which is classic like HF I. It's more difficult to refuse a remaster which is excellent like Black mesa. It's really really difficult to refuse such a Soundtrack which built a wonderful dreamland in my mind...
For so long, I was able to not spoil myself for the entirety of Black Masa source. I thought the remaster was nice, not until I reached Xen. I was absolutely blown away, and actually cried to some of the scenery accompanied by the music.
One of the only remasters to ever be significantly and notably better than the original. Black Mesa takes what used to be just a series of 3D shooter maps only brought together by the theme of "science facility" and the barely-there world of Xen and turned them into the cohesive environment of Black Mesa and the absolute majesty of a massive new Xen that really feels like a border between worlds and dimensions.
Это просто потрясающе!Я был уверен что никто не сможет превзойти саундтрэк оригинального half life в целом, но вам это удалось,и удалось в тысячу раз лучше!
Black Mesa's Xen hits different when you play Alyx. They made Xen amazing, but apparently too pretty and enchanting. Alyx kind of portrays life there to be biological nightmares.
Indeed power of good game soundtrack should never be underestimated.....it adds so much to the overall experience. Almost wants to make me replay XEN parts of Black Mesa again right now :D
when I look up at the night sky I don't see vast emptiness or darkness I see a sky full of stars staring back at me and I get the urge of wanting to be up amongst them staring down at the world I once called home. the stars will be our new home but not in our lifetime we are too young of a species to travel the stars without certain death over the horizon we we're born among the stars and we will die among them as well. -Unknown

having played and completing the original Half-Life (which is now one of my favorite games), just recently then playing the remake, I can confidently say the remake does a very good job on giving life and detail that the original couldn't (because of technological limitations back then). and the soundtrack. especially in Xen. just pure awe.
Critical Mass & Ascension just so much chef's kiss. I like the entire soundtrack both Black Mesa & Xen but those two in particular hit just as hard if not harder than anything in official Half Life.
the first time i went to Xen,i had a little tear coming down. as someone who havent played the original half life and my only experience on this series is half life 2 and it's ''DLCs''. i wasnt expecting Xen to be so beautifull to the eye.

Getting into Xen and being immersed, with the music accompaniment, one begins to really grasp the depth of what is at stake as you transverse the entire environment. It captures the humanity of it better than Doom. What is at stake is more than survival, but a complete destruction of what God created on Earth into something completely foreign by a completely dark element that has always been right at our grasp all these centuries told through stories and fables such as ghosts, ET's, UFO's, portals, etc. During the playthrough I began to feel Gordon Freeman's purpose more so than any of the other HL games. This was more than existential, but spiritual. And then there is the G-man. God man. What is reality? Whole series is incredible.

When I saw Xen for the first time, and heard that music, I thought "Yeah, this is special". The music and other sounds and the visuals all perfectly encapsulated the feeling of wonder and dread that I think Xen was always meant to have.
my first time in black mesa's xen areas, was jaw dropping.
They need to bring out a movie of this!
the whole soundtrack for Xen perfectly portrays the feeling of being in an alien world teeming with life
good to see Xen go from a pile of shit to a breath taking extra-terrestrial wilderness
Half life xen wasn't bad, it was just annoying in some parts and not the prettiest part of the game. Keep in mind that it was made in 1998, so the tech they had couldn't handle something even remotely as beautiful as Black Mesa xen.
@@ipherial2929 Half-Life Xen wasn't bad, but it was nowhere near the standards of the Earthbound levels.
Haha nailed it)
Это потрясающе. Сел перепройти игру спустя много лет, и именно мир Зен музыкой и визуалом вызывает восторг
Абсолютно согласен ! такие же эмоции , даже мурашки были!!!
1:52 holy s... what a drop
I can hear a cat purring in the background of Transcendent. I believe this increases it's calm value tenfold.
It's difficult to refuse a game which is classic like HF I. It's more difficult to refuse a remaster which is excellent like Black mesa. It's really really difficult to refuse such a Soundtrack which built a wonderful dreamland in my mind...
By far one of the better Xen soundtracks i've heard, I mean it just fit perfectly with the landscape, and background scenery.
волшебная музыка, под стать Зену
+
For so long, I was able to not spoil myself for the entirety of Black Masa source. I thought the remaster was nice, not until I reached Xen.
I was absolutely blown away, and actually cried to some of the scenery accompanied by the music.
12:30 THE MOST EPIC PART
Господи, как же это шикарно, мурашки не проходят
согласен
overall the Xen remids me so mcuh of Subnatuica without water..... another reason for me to absolutel adore it.
Ощущается спокойствие.

Limitless Potential. My most favorite track.
This game is so fuckin better than Half Life 1. Massive respect to Crowbar Collective for this remaster
This soundtrack has no right to be as unbelievable as it is.
12:05 Epic moment
If Xen is still a whole planet, I may call it Heaven. These tracks are OMG... perfectly beautiful, makes me cry.
Это просто потрясающе!Я был уверен что никто не сможет превзойти саундтрэк оригинального half life в целом, но вам это удалось,и удалось в тысячу раз лучше!
Xen felt like a psychedelic trip to me. Although I've never taken any.
Black Mesa's Xen hits different when you play Alyx.
They made Xen amazing, but apparently too pretty and enchanting. Alyx kind of portrays life there to be biological nightmares.
I mean for Alyx it's almost 20 years later after the death of the Nihilanth?
One of the best video games of all time!
I waited for Black Mesa so much time, but it was all worth it.
Loved the OG and I love this!
Still haven’t beaten Xen but man I had (good) Goosebumps looking at this version of Xen!
This music is another reason to play game. Masterpiece.
Indeed power of good game soundtrack should never be underestimated.....it adds so much to the overall experience. Almost wants to make me replay XEN parts of Black Mesa again right now :D
simplemente hermoso :,)
when I look up at the night sky I don't see vast emptiness or darkness I see a sky full of stars staring back at me and I get the urge of wanting to be up amongst them staring down at the world I once called home. the stars will be our new home but not in our lifetime we are too young of a species to travel the stars without certain death over the horizon we we're born among the stars and we will die among them as well.

Was it you who said that or some randomer

Profundo .__.
black mesa is THE BEST example of a remastered game and i love it as much as HL1
Honestly, Xen is the reason why I want to play Black Mesa
Good point
28:00 Heartbreaking...
En çok ve en çok sevdiğim oyun half life serisi ❤️
Anybody here in 2023 can you believe this Game is made by indie devs? no triple AAA or big gaming company. its not even a official valve realse but its better than any modern games this is if not the best game you will see for a while.
This Is Legendary !! Play this HL2 Saga from begining.........forever 💗
Ascension is just....cant find the right words
time to wait for hl2 remaster instead of hl3
having played and completing the original Half-Life (which is now one of my favorite games), just recently then playing the remake, I can confidently say the remake does a very good job on giving life and detail that the original couldn't (because of technological limitations back then).
and the soundtrack. especially in Xen. just pure awe.
My therapist recommended I try relaxing with some xen music and meditation. Great advice, works fantastically.
Critical Mass & Ascension just so much chef's kiss. I like the entire soundtrack both Black Mesa & Xen but those two in particular hit just as hard if not harder than anything in official Half Life.
3:00 ❤
6:47 Joel, You really communicated the incorporeal here man.
The BEST remake of the history
Buddy of mine did some "light" hacking on the nintendo switch and now he is playing black mesa on the bus.
the first time i went to Xen,i had a little tear coming down.
as someone who havent played the original half life and my only experience on this series is half life 2 and it's ''DLCs''.
i wasnt expecting Xen to be so beautifull to the eye.
That moment when many
Speedrunners, streamers, basic players, youtubers and lets-play ers.
Kept pressing "refresh" button
And when update button appeared everyone immediately started waiting Updating it without patience.
Many happiness, patience, tears and even excitement, felt everyone who joined and saw the "XEN" Chapter.

06:01 Convergence........ I flew away, amazingly
I love this game and those music
I heard this song in Razer Tiamat 7.1 while playing the game. Believe me, the sound was amazing when 7.1 mode activated ❤
This game shocked me for how good it was and the Xen music is just 😍
Man entangled is masterpiece
28:01 This takes me back to 2012. Its like the remaster of Triage At Dawn in the half life aylx documentary. It just so damn good!
Encontré luz en la oscuridad de mi vida ... A los 27 descubro tal como Gordon Freeman mi potencial oculto
Ese sonido TAN TAN PERO TAN EPICOOOOOOO
