“I have perfect pitch” proceeds to do terribly on the tune test 😂
i think that’s why he did worse on the section. he tried to quantify something that’s really wasn’t meant to be. it would be like taking a middle school science test and getting a lot wrong because the answers were geared toward students who are not privy to more advanced assessment.
@@billyt8868 true that, also to Eddy all of the examples might have sounded out of tune. I have perfect pitch too and for me in most of those examples both singers sounded so terribly flat or sharp that I had no idea which answer was “more correct” for the test.
@@Nothermainacc I got all 3 right that we could hear and had to use my gut instinct to what was right, by trying to feel what the singer was more likely to intend.
Having studied John Lennon and how he likes to go sharp or flat from the note naturally probably helped me with this
I have perfect pitch and in some examples, both singers were out of tune. It was literally painful. "More" out of tune isn't necessarily more painful so it was hard! But it was the beat discrimination that killed my score :(
he has absolute pitch. If you have absolute pitch, it doesnt mean you have great relative pitch, and it can be pretty unideal to end up w that combo, if you want to do music seriously, spontaneously and live

Keep in mind Brett doesn’t have perfect pitch unlike Eddy. So be able to do that is pretty impressive.
You don't need perfect pitch to answer those questions. Relative pitch can do just fine.
Tbh I don'T have perfect pitch and I don't play any instruments, and I got 121, almost nailing the sections 2/3, only struggling a bit in section 1. You don't need perfect pitch to get decent score.
Which one is more out of tune?
Brett: you need perfect pitch
Eddy: has perfect pitch
Eddy: actually scores lower than Brett
Eddy: surprised Pikachu face
Me.
Haha maybe what u acc need is perfect pizz lmao
The pitch one was fucking nonsense
It's actually interesting. I think that "mistuning perception" had little to do with the perfect pitch. I have, if you can say so, the opposite of the perfect pitch and I'm not a musician, so I did awfully in melodic discrimination - only 80. But I scored higher than them in beat alignment (109) and better than Eddy in mistuning perception (110). I think the fact that I listen to opera a lot helped me immensely. Instrumentalists don't always seem to "feel" the vocal music.
@@helenas7948 yeah maybe thats more what it is about. Like with the one in the end, the first was sharp and the second one flat (or the other way around) but there was one that sounded less out of tune I guess.
I love how triggered Eddy is throughout this video. Lol.
@Martha Papadopoulou ikr, we know how triggered they were from the amount they cursed lol
Actually it shows you how much pressure Eddy puts on himself. Because he has perfect pitch and all that, he felt more pressure to get the right answers. And he makes no secret of the fact that there were high expectations from him at home growing up. The fact is though, some of those qs were challenging and they both did very well!

I thought being out-of-tune meant that the sound would be unpleasant. If that's the test, I didn't hear anything out-of-tune.
@@quabledistocficklepo3597 I agree a lot can be interpretation, but judging a folk-country modern style of music only is not something a college music student or maybe (depending on the program) even a highschool music student would study/learn. Classical or even just music that is vocally more structured and less in a style that is supposed to slide in/out of tune between notes for performance sake should have been included in the test imo. Not to say the songs played were not good, but from a structured music background where every note must be judged for accuracy rather than specific artist expression is how we can at least train our ears as professionally trained musicians to refine our abilities to perform more works than what we like ourselves to serve a variety of audiences. But I appreciate your point of view as well, having not considered that side of things.
@@HaileyTheThird I KNOW THAT KIND OF DROVE ME MAD TOO. My friend who is a professional percussionist was like wtf this is a college-approved study? Not to say that all of the test was inaccurate because I agree some of what was presented made sense to include, but every part needs to function to its purpose to create accurate results. Shows that the test is flawed. The first test is comically simple but then again shows ridiculous examples, the rhythm and pitch ones are very questionable.
In the test they even admit that it might be wrong and needs changing - I think it's fundamentally flawed, judging from everything I've seen in other videos about it as well.

To be fair Brett was able to tell if the singers tune was flatter or sharper. With a trained ear in music(brett 20+yrs) he may not have perfect pitch, but he can tell the difference. @@natedogmarik2554 yes I definitely agree!! just teasing eddy a little :'D
I took this test and I was so confused when it came to the tuning part because I couldn't tell if it was actually out of tune or if I just didn't like the singer's voice!!
Also, I got around the same score as you. It's actually not a terrible score--since it's in percentiles, not grades--but it still makes me feel a lot better. This test is really not geared towards classical musicians.
Sadie McC yea as a guitarist I got a lot of the ones they didn’t get idk how
Guitarist too, I got more in the rhythm but fucked up the melody part.
Sadie McC whats the website for the test? I wanna try
@@oliviawilson480 search "Harvard music iq test" and you'll get it.
I got 113 and I also think the singer part is arguable for some questions since we don't know whether "out of tune" means the amount of dissonance there is or just how the vocal doesn't fit the chords in accompaniment
I got 149 on musical discrimination, and
136 on beat alignment.
Pretty proud of myself I must say.
The way they handle things differently. Headphone choicse, eyes closed or open. Calm vs anxiety.
