      It's just an organization founded by a hidden group of people as a museum to honor the artists they like. They probably despise the rappers they put in, but do it because it's good PR.

    Kiss is a top 10 all time iconic rock band. They have the most gold records of any american band. They have sold 100m + albums, they have been around since the 70's, their big stage show was original, revolutionary and has been copied by tons of bands , on and on.

      PISS is a stupid rock band whose stage act (most likely) ripped off Parilment-Funkadelic's stage act, and is just the kind of thing Hanna-Barbera would come up with if both men wanted to devise a rock band (it's no coicendence that Hanna-Barbera made _KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park_ and that it was set in an amusement park; the band looks like the house band that would play at one [e.g. Calyx, the house band at Disneyland.]) Why should anybody care that the RRHOP didn't care about PISS?

      @@Neville60001 kiss is adored by millions and will continue to live forever with their avatars , merchandise , new music , concerts , TV appearences, etc. While black sabbath, radiohead, muse , dylan, the prog scene , rap music , pop music , led zeppelin , metallica etc. Will be forgotten in the past . No matter how much hater you are . Kiss became iconic for the fans worldwide and not for the critics . Prepare yourself to an infinite numbers of sold out concerts with their avatars . Kiss will be alive when rush will be ashes . This is truth . We , the fans, decide their success their popularity, their richness, not you . And your voice is weak. Our voice is stronger . Soon there will be a new generations of fans . This is the plan of pophouse . This means immortality and influence above the rest of the bands. Accept it . Kiss is an important name of pop culture , in America and europe too . Worldwide too. But who know led zeppelin , rush or deep purple now? How many people ? On yougov survey actually kiss is as famous of the beatles. 94 percent . Why your favorites cant reach this status ? Why kiss are above them , a billion dollar band , and with the double net worth of zeppelin and sabbath or the quadruple of deep purple and so on ? Why rush remains an obscured name while kiss continue , and will continue , to shine ? For a lot of reasons including the fact that they are the best . Their only peers are queen . Valid point! If the band Kiss is the one being inducted, if former members are in good standing with the original members and members of the final iteration of the band. No matter how you rationalize it, the original 4 members of Kiss is the combination that put them on the map.. did the others that came after Ace and Peter have impact and play on "multiple platinum" albums as Paul states? Yes, but the original four is who blazed the trail and propelled Kiss to who they are.. The hey day of Kiss ( I know I was there as a kid and teenager in the 70's) was the mid 1970's to the early 80's. The time frame of the original 4. Did they have success after the early 80's? yes, but not to the degree of the height of there popularity. Kiss was displaced on the radio by the Hair metal groups of the early 80's (Motley Crue, RATT) then in a huge way by the emergence of the big 4 of Speed Metal (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax). Carr & company did great things with Kiss, but not to the extent of the original four....

    • @philliplandry4139
      @philliplandry4139 2 роки тому +1

      That's what I'm thinking. Their 70's stuff is so iconic and has a legendary statics it's hard to overshadow it. The 80's Kiss was still a big deal and still made top hits but the problem is. They were a whole different band in terms of sound and appearance. A lot of bands adapt with the times ( 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's) like Aerosmith, ACDC, Cheap Trick, and U2 but they haven't gone a 180 like Kiss had. Kiss was following the threads too much instead of adapting to it. That was the problem. There were two things that could have helped during the 80's 1) take off the makeup and continue on with their original sound instead of going full LA glam metal. 2) If they kept the makeup on but have to adapt a much edger sound and appearance similar like Alice Cooper had in the mid-late 80's.

    He's absolutely right. Eric Carr? Vinnie Vincent? Bruce Kulick? Eric Carr alone should have been included, after playing on every album after Peter Criss until he passed away. The R&R Hall of Fame has always been inconsistent when honoring past and present members of groups. Robert Trujillo was inducted with Metallica after only 6 years, yet Chicago were inducted without Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff after each spent roughly 30 years with the band. It's a crock.

    The big thing here is influence. Only the original band influenced future generations of rockers. Kiss unmasked in the '80s had great songs but the knock on them then was that they were no longer leaders, they became followers. The '90s and beyond were spent trying to recapture past glories.

      Based on their longevity alone, Kiss deserved to be inducted as soon as they became eligible. That longevity includes past members such as Eric Carr, Vinnie Vincent, Bruce Kulick, and others. That night, everybody who was ever in Kiss and still alive should’ve been up there performing, makeup or not. But I think the real reason that didn’t happen was that the last time Kiss performed with members not in the current lineup, the fans demanded a reunion and they had to acquiesce.

I did notice that the Moody Blues were finally inducted in 2018. I missed that, but there are many others who are snubbed, ignored, and purposely forgotten. For many many years, many of them have been suggested repeatedly, but not recognized or considered. It’s an outrage and discriminatory, a disgrace! Shame on the executive board for personal favoritism and turning a blind eye to their fans. We are still here!!! Yes, you have inducted a handful. Big deal!! What about the others who had sold out crowds, top 40 hits, and gold albums. Look at how many years the handful had to wait to be inducted!! Many of us who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s are disgusted with this yearly event. These talented artists were true blue Rock’n Rollers and yet, most of these selected inductees are still young and haven’t been around long enough to have been considered in the first place! It’s totally ridiculous that only a handful of board members use their own personal favorites for consideration and the fans choices are not allowed or even considered. The people of this era are being robbed of the satisfaction of seeing their favorite artists recognized and rewarded for future recognition. These fans are still here!!! Shame on you all!! Paul's only half right. While there were great moments in KISStory without Ace and Peter, and people like Eric Carr, Vinnie Vincent, Mark St. John, Bruce Kulick, and behind the scenes people (heck, maybe even Eric Singer since he played as himself before having to don the catman persona and Tommy Thayer since Monster is an album that a lot of people really like) should be recognized, it's not Paul's call to say who gets nominated. The R&RHOF has the right to honor whoever the hell it wants. Paul said it best when he said THEY want to pick and choose. That's what they do! If they don't think any other version of KISS is worth receiving THEIR award, then that's their opinion and right (and a hell of a lot of KISS fans agree with them; not all, obviously but a hell of a lot). Nobody's going to think less of KISS if only the 4 originals were nominated and allowed to play, and nobody's going to think higher of the R&RHOF for catering to certain people's whims. You either like KISS or you don't and/or you respect the R&RHOF as a worthy award institute or you don't. Awards have nothing to do with music or band worthiness anyway. They mean nothing to anybody other than those who need "proof" to back up their likes or morons who need "elite" people to tell them what's worthy (just think how many idiots flock to movie screens to see movies they were totally uninterested in seeing before those same movies were awarded Oscars by Hollywood insiders who want those types of movies to do well so they can make more of them... and more money from them). Also, the quote by the R&RHOF CEO actually does reflect what an awful lot of KISS fans believe regarding the current version of KISS. Tommy and Eric are NOT allowed to shine as themselves and ARE dressed up as and made to look sound and play like Ace and Peter. Anybody with eyes and/or ears can tell that. If you were to ask people if they became KISS fans because of Tommy and Eric or because of Ace and Peter, the numbers would be staggeringly one sided. The original KISS is what made KISS. Had the band started out as any other of their various incarnations, and without having a huge fan base which was created and made to last due to the original lineup (a fan base consisting of many who will take ANYTHING as long as it has the KISS name attached to it), it's HIGHLY unlikely that any of those other versions of KISS would have made the band the superstar phenomena that it became and still is today. Doesn't matter if some of the music or players were better, none of the later stuff was iconic or hysteria making in the same way that the original lineup of KISS was. There's no arguing that fact unless you're living in a fantasy world. I admire Paul for speaking his mind and being ticked off for not getting his way, but I also totally disagree with him when he says nobody cares who's behind the makeup. That's complete and utter baloney. That's why we listen to rock and roll instead of rap, hip hop, and dance music. Those kinds of music genre fans may not care about anybody other than the lead singer (most of the music consists of computer programming, samples, and interchangeable session players and backup dancers), but rock fans definitely know and care who plays guitar, who plays bass, who plays drums, and who sings. It's always BIG news when somebody leaves or is replaced. That's why most bands have limited life spans. People form a bond with their favorite band members and anything else simply will not do it for them. I loved the Eric Carr and non-makeup versions of KISS, but even they couldn't hold a candle in my personal opinion to the original magic makers. I wish I would have seen one of the Ace/Peter reunion concerts, but I mistakenly hoped that version of KISS would be around for the long haul. I've seen other versions of KISS live but never had the pleasure of seeing them with Ace and Peter except on video (and those shows I can always watch in their entirety unlike many others which I fast forward for certain songs). I would have loved to have seen Ace and Peter back with Paul and Gene again, even for just a short set, but I honestly think Paul knew that would have an adverse effect on KISS's upcoming tour. Who would want to see a Tommy and Eric version of KISS at today's prices if the Ace and Peter reunion went off without a hitch? Maybe they would have sounded sloppy, but we'll never know now, and I think that's exactly what Paul wants, at least at this particular point in time. It's a sad, sad state of affairs. Paul and Gene say they do things for the fans, but the truth is that they do it for themselves first and for SOME of the fans only, definitely not all of us. In this world of the internet and digital music, they could crank out tons of new material with all kinds of members past and present, but they choose to carry on with a lackluster band consisting of a singer whose pipes are shot, a bass player who sounds great but no longer emits any charisma due to overexposure, and two guys who are great players but who aren't allowed to create their own personal stamps and identities with crowds. Apart from a cool stage, the only thing that excites me about the upcoming KISS concert is... Def Leppard, a band that is one of the few with a "one for all and all for one" attitude. Now THAT's what being a band is supposed to mean. Otherwise, we'd have nothing but SINGERS, and believe me there are way too many of those parading around the world as so-called superstars.

      More like where would Paul and Gene be now had they never met Ace and Peter? Still playing with that crap band Wicked Lester? Peter and Ace did get to audition for a band, but not one that was the greatest band in the world. Peter and Ace were the missing pieces of the puzzle. They helped MAKE that band great due to their distinct sound and style. Love em or hate em, their playing is instantly recognizable. KISS would not be the KISS we all know had it not been for Ace and Peter bringing their rock n' roll attitudes to the fold. Nobody else that's been in the band would have brought that same sound. Bob and Bruce Kulick and Tommy Thayer had/have to be told to sound like Ace or they sound totally different. Had they been around in the beginning, you wouldn't have the same KISS sound that still exists today in their music. Ace was the perfect guitarist for the band. All you have to do is listen to stuff Gene and Paul did prior to Ace and Peter to see that they were going nowhere fast and couldn't come up with a signature sound. All Paul and Gene have done since Ace and Peter left is to keep a pale imitation of KISS afloat (literally in the case of the Kiss Kruises). It's no surprise that Peter and Ace haven't achieved the same success as solo artists that they did when in KISS. KISS was a band that had 4 guys each bringing their limited skills to the table and making a sweet meal when the ingredients connected. When Gene has gone solo musically, it's a joke. When Paul's gone solo, it's not bad but he doesn't bring in big numbers and plays to club crowds just like Ace and Peter have done. Does Keith Richards make waves when he does solo work? Nope. Face it, KISS and its members created the most hoopla and had the biggest success when the original 4 were a part of it (none of the other KISS members have achieved super stardom for their work outside of KISS). Also, if you think people who become addicts are to be simply swept aside, forgotten, and not to be rooted for when they work hard to break those habits, then that tells the world all they need to know about you and your intelligence/empathy. It IS indeed something to be proud of when one breaks an addiction. What a pile of rubbish you are for not thinking so. Keep bashing Ace and Peter and keep filling the wallets of Gene and Paul if you want to. Others expect more from a band that can do better and has done. Do you seriously not know just how influential Ace and Peter are to musicians? Their licks/riffs/fills/techniques are constantly taught by teachers and copied by students to this day. Nobody teaches Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer style... because they don't have their own style. If you think Ace and Peter are no good as musicians and you think Gene and Paul are fantastic, yikes. You're a real bozo if that's the case. The truth is that Gene and Paul are very good basic rhythm players, but Ace blows them away as musicians. Ace isn't the be all end all, but he's created more memorable riffs and solos than anybody else in the band. Ace and Peter let their instruments do the talking when they were in the band while Gene and Paul were more like theatrical characters. If you honestly think that KISS as it is today is out of this world fantastic then good for you. The rest of us only wish our eyes and ears saw things the same way because we used to love this band and really want to see more great things to come from them. It's been a LONG wait, though! A very long wait! Gene and Paul are having the same problems they had before Ace and Peter joined. They're in musical limbo, unable to create interest from new fans and unable to create songs that don't feature carbon copy imitations of their outcast ex-brothers. Tommy singing space themed songs and Eric singing husky doesn't make them Ace and Peter anymore than wearing their costumes/makeup does.

Open up the theaters with concert shows and documentaries. Open up the book stores with auto biographies and music subjects. Open up the restaurants that represent the time of different generations. Open up other malls for different music genres. This is our history and heritage. We must cherish this and keep it. Don’t delete this from our life’s and future generations like we did when we destroyed our statues. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy and experience the feel a little bit of what it was like living in the 50’s, 60’s , 70’s .....all different era’s. The 60s and 70s rock bands are the very foundation of rock ‘n’ roll. There are more legendary groups from those two decades Than any other two decades you might put together. The bands and the musicians in these are the rockers that are still performing and selling stadiums out to this day. This is the error of Beatles,Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones ,Queen,Pink Floyd ,AC/DC ,Van Halen ,Aerosmith ,Ted Nugent ,Boston , ELO ,Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kiss,Journey ,Cream,Kinks,David Bowie,Peter Frampton......on and on. These are only a tip of the iceberg but there’s too many to list like the Grateful Dead ,Tom Petty ,Rush, Black Sabbath‼️ name me any other time that has as many rock ‘n’ roll giants! I’m not talking about disco or popular music like Taylor Swift, Britney Spears type music. I’m talking about rock ‘n’ roll music. There are so many one hit wonders or one or two albums and forgotten bands now. Just saying 🤔 one man’s opinion🎸

    Got to hand it to Paul, because he's got a huge set of brass balls to slag the RNRHOF and still get inducted. But he is right though. Kiss's legacy includes so much more than just the original 4 members, and they all contributed something valuable to Kiss's catalog of music in their own way.

    The additional irony about the R&RHOF overlooking Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick was that on the same night Kiss were inducted, Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band went in as well. The ESB induction included Vini Lopez and David Sancious amongst the other members. Lopez and Sancious only played on Springsteen's first 2 albums, both of which flopped initially, and only began to sell in large numbers after the success of Born to Run and subsequent albums. While Kiss in the 80's weren't nearly as successful as they'd been in the 70's, their 80's releases easily outsold the initial sales figures for Springsteen's first 2 albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle. That hardly seems fair, especially given how long Kiss had to wait to be inducted, but it's hardly surprising when Jon Landau (Springsteen's manager), Dave Marsh (Springsteen's biographer) and Steve Van Zandt (Springsteen's guitarist) are all among the voting members of the hall. I know Paul said they only went to the induction as a show of respect for how much lobbying their fans had done to get them in there, but I'm one fan who wishes they had told them to stick it up their ass.

    He's right, and his point is completely valid. How many different members have passed through the E-Street band, Grateful Dead, Parliament Funkadelic? I don't have a problem with any of those members getting in, But Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr not only played on multi-platinum records, they had tenure outlasting Ace and Peter. Six members, and Eric Singer has an argument too, with his body of work, should have been inducted. Fair is fair

    He said something articulate? It is exactly true that Paul and gene decided to have other people play the roles that Peter and Ace created, rather than have them come up with new ones, like they did with Eric carr, because people wanted the classic Kiss. The original Kiss is what made the impact on music. I feel people should boycott bands like Kiss and The Eagles, who have treated band members and former band members badly.
