I've been using the SR850's for 2+ years now for everything from listening to music, to producing, to my work as a transcriber and I'd have to say their strongest feature is just how balanced they are. The sound spectrum with these is so cohesive and doesn't draw attention to any particular aspect of the music you're listening to. There is no V-shaped response here, these babies are flat across the board and start to taper down maybe around 40hz. The bass is tight and goes low enough, though maybe not way down into the sub region, the midrange was a hint nasally at first but evened out perfectly after around 40 to 50 hours of break-in, and the highs are not at all recessed and nicely sharp but not too sharp as to cause any kind of listener fatigue whatsoever. These cans are shockingly good not only for the price but for 4x their price soundwise. Buildwise, there's no denying these are cheap headphones, they're super lightweight and creaky, the pads are quite soft and comfortable, and there's almost no clamping around your head yet you can violently shake your head without any worry of these falling off. In over 2 years of daily use (they're on my head 6 to 8 hours a day), there's only a hint of wear and tear, though I wouldn't recommend dropping them if you can avoid it 'cause the cups are thin plastic and seem like they would break with a good impact. This is all coming from a guy who sold off his Sennheiser HD-650's after getting the Samsons. Yes, the Senns went much lower in the bass department (though not as tight) and had a much deeper soundstage, versus a wider soundstage with the Samson's, but I am not a fan of the veiled, dark sound and rest assured, the Samson's do not sound veiled in the least. If anything, they may be a slight bit forward. All in all, they sound exactly how a studio monitor should sound, they're not "exciting" headphones, they're flat and accurate and perfect for editing and mixing. If you like a nice, open soundstage and a flat frequency response and don't have 200 bucks to spend, just get these!

Thanks for your insights. On another note, am wondering why one would choose open back headphones as opposed to closed, except for hard core mixing. Apologies if I missed something.
Open backs in my experience don’t have the base as closed backs but that’s true for 90% of open backed headphones anyway, these do far better in the kids and highs, again these are basic headphones but perform very well for its price. I think you could use it for what you need
i have a question . the main reason i am looking to buy a open back headphones with a fabric head pad because of it comfortness. noise cancelling headphones never worked out for me tbh. it causes a clogged feeling and also it produces a lot of heat in my ears. so how is this headphones when considering those things?

Guys, has anyone replaced the earpads of your SR850? The stock one (I think it's a velour material) is getting a bit uncomfortable so I'm planning to replace the pair. I found many people saying after switching to Brainwavz ones the bass is more punchier, and also because of the thickness there's even more soundstage. Though only the Brainwavz XL earpads are available in my country and most reviews are about the hybrid ones the only one type available at present is the XL earpads. Are these good for music production and recording? I would be recording vocals, so I am wandering if headphone spill could happen... Also how do these compare to the audio technicia ath-m20x? Great video 👏🏻
These give a better sound stage than the m20x as these are semi open back, I do prefer open back headphones for editing because of this reason. If you are using them for recording vocals then go for the m20x for sure! Close back will not allow for Audio Spill. And thanks ✌🏽😊
I’m really considering buying this headphone but I’m just wondering can the valour earcups be replaced. Thank you very much for this review, really helped me with my buying decisions
They are not very different in sound quality but the build quality is much better in the audiotechnica, audiotechnica most of time are 45-60 dollars but you can get the Samson ones in aliexpress for like 25 dollars without the box
@@mukulsharma5738 i play with these for siege which is a very very very sound dependent game and i love them it makes everything much more clear, great for gaming
The m40x has a lot of features for the money, it's got a very nice sound profile and I love the fact it has a removable cable, also the build quality is slightly better too, but weirdly I wouldn't say they were more comfortable, is it worth the price difference...... Hmm hard to answer, I would say yes but these samson headphones are going to be my daily drivers so in my case not really

How bad is the bleed? I've been thinking of switching from the usual headsets to headphones + a proper mic. Considering how cheap these are (and there are decent cheap USB mics), I would end up spending way less than trying to get a full headset with similar quality... but none of that will matter if they bleed into the mic.
You don’t buy semi open back or open back headphones if you are worried around bleed because it’s nearly impossible to not have bleed after about 50/60% because it’s how it’s designed but you get much better soundstage and it just naturally sounds better than closed back, high end headphones go for this design because it does so well for soundstage, you would be better off looking at the neewer headphones I did a review on that are cheap, sound good for the price and are closed back
@@Techkhamun thanks! Yea I thought as much... I just would like to have open backs for that sound experience as well. Guess I'd have to buy both open and closed backs if I really want to experience that. Maybe I will just use my current headset for situations where I want to talk into a mic (I can just not use the shitty headset mic), and then I leave the open back just for music. I just have to sort out my desk space haha. TBH though, my closed back headset bleed like mad, people are always quite surprised when they hear that
why the 950s are closed back where is the sr 850 is open back meaning that you'll get a much better sound stage if you are going to be using your headphones for vocals then when the 950s might be better but I prefer open back headphones for it sound stage and better sound when when editing
Just remember that just because a headphone can play all these frequencies doesn't mean you can hear them, do you have other headphones that go to 20k and check that you can even hear these frequencies as my ears can't hear certain frequencies in general
they 950 got more bass but arent as detailed in my opinion. the difference in detail may be small but u are sacrificing some quality just for getting more isolation
@@Techkhamun also you should check it out it's from samson though also you definitely review the anker soundcore q20 also here's the link www.amazon.com/dp/B083587L4H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jwEAFb2NVB3KR
If I'm honest I'm not sure about gaming, I'm not a gamer myself so it's hard to know what a gamer looks for in a pair of headphones! Just to mention these are semi back headphones so if you need isolation then look at the audiotechnia m20x possibly?

@@Techkhamun are these samsons better or the m20x for music listening?
These headphones are not really for listening to music for I would say unless you are editing music, I would go for the m20x for that
Techkhamun could you please tell me why?
can you please compare this to the Behringer HC 2000B ?
I’m really considering buying this headphone but I’m just wondering can the valour earcups be replaced. Thank you very much for this review, really helped me with my buying decisions
Yes they can be replaced 😊✌🏽 geni.us/SR850Pads
Techkhamun thank you very much. Hope you stay safe during all of this. Have a great day😊
Do they sound good on mobile phones?do i need an external Dac to get its full sound?
No it is 32 ohms if you want to use a external dac then use it these will work at mobile’s
Which is best for mixing audio and mastering samson sr850 or the audio tecnica ath20x???
They are not very different in sound quality but the build quality is much better in the audiotechnica, audiotechnica most of time are 45-60 dollars but you can get the Samson ones in aliexpress for like 25 dollars without the box
what about the akg k92 please check them and Tell, please. Thank you
thx thinking of buying it with the tonor q9 i just want it not to snap easily
Yes! I agree that that's a good choice of headphone I've been dreaming to buy.
It's a great pair of headphones, still use them for editing 😊✌🏽
I saw you in different videos of Samson sr850 headphones.😁
Hi guys, hope you can help me in this one. Is that real leather in the headband? Thanks.
No.....these cost 35$
@@liljons6753 thanks for your answer, I'm currently using them :D
I am listening to this video on my Samson SR850. I love them so much that I am watching videos of other people who love them too. lol!
Should i get these for gaming ?/ i just wanna enjoy games with bigger siound stage
@@mukulsharma5738 i play with these for siege which is a very very very sound dependent game and i love them it makes everything much more clear, great for gaming
@@gray2316 yes.
Thanks for replying... And i bought them btw.
And i also Play Rainbow Six Siege with these.
Awesome headphones
Hey i have a question. My set of sr850's have leather pads, not velvet. Anyone knows about this?
Should I get this or an hd206?
Can I use them to music listening? Or are they only good for professional use, editing and producing?
yes you can
Great review! How this headphone compare with technica m40x? Is the different is worth for the price?
The m40x has a lot of features for the money, it's got a very nice sound profile and I love the fact it has a removable cable, also the build quality is slightly better too, but weirdly I wouldn't say they were more comfortable, is it worth the price difference...... Hmm hard to answer, I would say yes but these samson headphones are going to be my daily drivers so in my case not really
@@Techkhamun awesome! I am getting SR850 rn. another reason why i get it is because it is an open back headphone and it gives a better stereo image than closed one as far as i know. I am going to use it with sonarworks to give it a more accurate flat response for music production. Thanks a lot mate!

Yeh the open back design is much better for sound stage in my opinion, that's why I will be sticking with my Samson's 😊 I'm glad I could help mate ✌🏽
Is the sr850 ok for just listening to music and gaming?
How this headphone is compared to technica ath m20x ?!
Plz answer this
Hey, nice vid. Can I just ask if it has this unit has mic?
It doesn’t
TBH though, my closed back headset bleed like mad, people are always quite surprised when they hear that
semi open headphones don't leak as much as you think especially if you add a noise gate in something like equalizer apo if you're on pc
Would like to know if there is any compatible pads i can use to swap with the original one?
there are many, brainwavx, yaxi, dekoni sell pads for sr850
How does the sr850 compare to the sr950? The difference in our country is like $10 so i dont know if i should go for the 950.
why the 950s are closed back where is the sr 850 is open back meaning that you'll get a much better sound stage if you are going to be using your headphones for vocals then when the 950s might be better but I prefer open back headphones for it sound stage and better sound when when editing
Nice review!
Hi ,I already buy it and test listening UA-cam Hertz test. Mine I can't hear any sound above 16k hertz. Is mine fake? I paid $23 for it.
Just remember that just because a headphone can play all these frequencies doesn't mean you can hear them, do you have other headphones that go to 20k and check that you can even hear these frequencies as my ears can't hear certain frequencies in general
0:33 I saw the Samson sr950 basically the 850 but closed back
they 950 got more bass but arent as detailed in my opinion. the difference in detail may be small but u are sacrificing some quality just for getting more isolation
Hey, I don't know if you still do reply, can you please tell whether this cause any heating in ears or any clogged feeling?
Nope 👌🏽
Would these be fine to game with?
Currently £17.70 in the UK I don't need new headphones but I'll take a punt that price.
Wow Ive just payed £35 and they're out of stock so I'm basically on a back order. I hope they don't drop that low any time soon 😂
What is the different of sr950v
These headphones are insanely good for the price like holy shit I love them
Is it better than Superlux EVO ?
hows the noise isolation? are they noise cancelling?
no
i just want the most comfortable open back headphones for tv viewing, so comfortable that I can wear it even when i have a headache. or suggestions?
A bit late, but they're incredibly comfortable.
I have the X2HRs and they are not flat, they are bass heavy.
Good choice man!
how bout superlux hd681,are they good value?
They're kind of the same
Get these, I heard the earpads on those are really bad
Can I make them bassy with eq when I wanna enjoy music?
Obviously
@@Natan-yw3xc nice :)
I want these but i am afraid they wont be large enough for my head, how large are they? also great review!
They are very large! I genuinely wouldn't worry about the size of these, obviously depends on how large your head it 😂😅
@@Techkhamun thanks for the fast reply! I'll be getting them in the near future :)
Why is noone reviewing the bundle that samson has with the 850s with a mobile dac for 70bucs
Not here in the UK, must be a US thing from Samson
@@Techkhamun I thought the same thing but I went to samson and nothing it's a portable dac by rockville it's called headrock
@@Techkhamun also you should check it out it's from samson though also you definitely review the anker soundcore q20 also here's the link www.amazon.com/dp/B083587L4H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jwEAFb2NVB3KR
are they good for gaming?
The problems i have with this headphones are that the wire is too long and it is not detachable.
Does it have a mic? To be used for online class?
No it doesn't have a mic
@@Techkhamun Thanks sir for responding. I will subscribe. Your channel is cute and you as well. 😀
i just sub... great one bro
Whould you recommend this headphones for gaming?
If I'm honest I'm not sure about gaming, I'm not a gamer myself so it's hard to know what a gamer looks for in a pair of headphones! Just to mention these are semi back headphones so if you need isolation then look at the audiotechnia m20x possibly?
These should be fine. The wide Soundstage these headphones produce enables a good picture of the videogame surroundings. Hope it helps! 🙂
Thank you Jagtan13 ✌🏽😊
These have replaced my Hyper X Cloud IIs. They are great. Soundstage is great for hearing directions audio cues in games.
@@DavidWaites do you think the SR850 is better than the hyper x cloud II?
Is this better than the Samson sr950?
Sr850 is my work monitors and I like them ☺️
