It's satisfying watching the lore behind these companies and how these games were made. Japan sure went head first into the deep end in creating super cool stuff. Mechas will always be one of my favorite things of all time.
Right!? Like, it was all gas no brakes, and these folks were laying the foundation for the game we'd come to know and love. I personally find it fascinating. In Robotech, there's so much alike it's almost like Battletech in an alternate universe where a lot of things are still the same lol.
I still have my model of the Minerva and it's associated space fighter. I've used the Minerva in several standard battletech scenarios. I am a fan of the Dirty Pair, but didn't realize Crusher Joe had cameos.
Amazing I have been telling Battletech fan about the influence of Fang of the Sun Dougram and Crusher Joe as well as Macross have had. Great work... Loved your video will share with my Mechwarrior Online fans...
I've heard of this series, but have never seen it. I didn't realize it primarily provided aerospace design assets instead of mechs. Really enjoying this series Mr. Tuck. Thanks a lot for the video.
The whole thing with the Unseen is such an interesting part of what created Battletech's specific style. There were several well known Japanese mecha designers that ended up providing designs for Battletech, even if their involvement wasn't exactly... intentional. Kunio Okawara, who is most well known for Gundam, also did many of the designs for Dougram that became battlemechs. And most of the designs that came from Macross and Crusher Joe were created by Shoji Kawamori, one of the greatest and most prolific mecha designers of all time. Kawamori also did the majority of the designs for Armored Core, if there are any fans of that games series around here. That's why, even if their original artwork isn't officially used anymore, I'm so glad the Unseen designs are finally back and here to stay. Legal or not, they are a vital part of the Battletech universe.
My first encounter with Crusher Joe was a model of the Minerva on the Fantastic Plastic website. I later saw the movie at my college anime club and much later I saw the OVAs. I now have both on Blu-ray. As a side note, I'm set to acquire the Dirty Pair series on Blu-ray. Now only if we could see Crusher Joe and/or Dirty Pair in Super Robot Wars.
I've been a fan of the crusher conference since the 80s. First time i saw cj was from a grainy vhs casette. Also look up the baycon translator booklet, a semi underground convention publication that features cj.
Good stuff again BattleBound👍 I watched the Ice Prison film. I must see the rest sometime. I got three veeeery old model kits from Crusher Joe quite cheaply recently. The Minerva, the Galleon and the Ostall. Must get the Galleon (I love how they just didn’t bother renaming it😂) and Locust painted up🤔
I saw this on a third- generation VHS tape in the trading tape club era of anime fandom. Yeah, dated myself there .... 😮😅 Anyways it would be an anime action classic even without the Battletech connection. Joe's gang acts like a lance from the Black Widows or Snord's Irregulars, or my own High School Mechwarrior group. 😅There are a few good scenes from the movie that I remember well. The opening attempted hijacking scene is mighty. The night disco died is epic! 😂 The rescue of the missing girl goes as well as a RPG session usually does. "Space Pirate Loki!!" It should be noted that Joe's team make for goid Mechwarrior characters in their own right. And there is a Lovely Angels cameo as well.
I love the music from that hijacking scene, Bloodbath Highway. So cool! The Lovely Angels connection is also super cool. It's funny how many things in these end up finding their way into Battletech, more than just the 'mechs! That's what I'm learning as I watch these.
What are the chances of this coming out right now? I have right in front of me the model from the VERY Battletech box that you showed in the video! I just finished building it! I've tried to find one of these that I could afford for nearly 3 decades! Anyway the model is a reboxed 1/500 Minerva put in with a Nichimo 1/200 Marauder and Crusader. It was released AFTER TRO 3025 but before Aerotech. Since the Leopard was in 3025 they call it a Leopard B variant in the box. It's a few hundred tons lighter and only has 2 mech bays and 1 fighter bay. I checked and the Leopard B is no longer considered canon. They had to do what they had to do back then! The 1 fighter inside is in 1/500 scale and came as part of the Minerva model. That means this was the very first official miniature/model dropship and the fighter inside was actually Battletech's 1st fighter mini. Thanks for the fantastic video. Subscribed.
Thank you for watching. Currently working my way thru the first 30-ish episodes of Robotech, then I'm gonna watch Macross. Hopefully it goes faster lol.
Hope you check it out! There's a lot of cool stuff I left out so you can still go enjoy it and learn new things about Crusher Joe. I found it fun and thrilling, reminded me a lot of how I was at Joe's age lol. Added bonus of not taking me 3 months to watch is always a plus!

It's always lovely to see peope embracing the anime side of Battletech.
Outside of Dougram, I had not seen any of this stuff. So it's all new to me, and I'm enjoying the process. 🫡
Another thing to add to my very long list of stuff I want to watch.
Fortunately, it's only like 90 min! The OAVs are an hour each. So less than 4 hours total watch time.

Good stuff. I really gotta give this series a look!

I couldn't say it any better!
Thanks for this - just bought the Hasegawa Galleon tank model kit (because it looked cool) so wanted the background to the show!

Man the algorithm did ya dirty. I didn't realize episode 2 of this had dropped
It always be doing me this way lol. Thanks for watching!
This is great content. Keep it up.
RObotech was always one of my favorites. Up until you began this project, I didn't even know Crusher Joe existed!
Or Fang of the Sun lol.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Mobile Suit Guindam and Crusher Joe and Fang of the Sun Dougram.
I'm currently on Super Dimension Fortress Macross to compare and contrast to Robotech!

Also did you notice the cameos right after the bar fight scene?
What I noticed was the cat running with everyone on the floor as they were screaming to get out! 😂😂
@BattleBound as the "discco' is collapsing, take a look at the spectators, you'll see some recognizable characters
Good video.
Thank you for watching. Currently working my way thru the first 30-ish episodes of Robotech, then I'm gonna watch Macross. Hopefully it goes faster lol.
I played AeroTech more than Battletech back in the day
I can't do it! I've tried! 😂 I'd need someone to explain it to me. 🥹
I have never heard of this before! You’re the best, Tuck!!
