    Lucas sued Battlestar Galactica creators. But when you see 1978 episodes of The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, you see an ice battle, and people getting into an underground bunker to stop a gun that can destroy motherships. And then we see 1980 and 1983 Lucas movies with an ice battle, and people getting into an underground bunker to stop a gun that can destroy motherships In 1980 we see a shot of the full galaxy, signing that Lucas did not solve reach of space travel. And years later we see space politics in episode 1 and a galactic map. To me this looks like he tried to bring stuff from Battletech into Star Wars. Without Marcia, the product was very different than his previous movies. So I believe Star Wars tried to assimilate Battletech. It ended up becoming a prequel I did not like. But then Filoni made it likable. However Star Wars decided to tell the history of the Skywalker family while Battletech left it open for any party to be a protagonist.

      Believe it or not, it was a pretty close game, as I recall it - I needed the BFS cards to win! I used air strike cards against my objective target. Without those, I would have had a tougher go. Can't say I'd have won it the same.

    DFAs are a trap option

    • @BattleBound
      @BattleBound 24 дні тому

      I almost thought this was going to read "trash option" and I was gonna be like well, they ARE urbanmechs, and it's called a trash CAN, not a trash cannot. But now I see you said trap, lol. DFA's, to me, are the "I don't care what happens in this game" move. It either dramatically improves your position out of pure luck, or it doesn't - not a great place to be.

  • @RecklessFables
    @RecklessFables 24 дні тому

    That's cool. I remember the notion that mechs and their pilots would have a closer connection thanks to the neural helmet. It seems like as stories have required random people to jump into a random mech and fight they sort of drifted away from that notion. I guess the clans constantly swapping around mechs would have broken that anyway.

      I mean, it doesn't feel any more convoluted than, say, other similar battle card games. I suspect it's for folks who want a game with the Battletech feel but not the usual Battletech time investment.

    Regarding the LoS question. Technically, you asked “Was there ever a time in which that determination was made by the side that won the initiative?”. We all know that “technically correct” is the best kind of correct, the winner of initiative can decide to block LoS if it splits two hexes. Since firing order is supposed to alternate: initiative loser/initiative winner/loser/winner/etc…as long as one of the losers units is the first to fire and one of the winners units fires last (not initiative loser fires all their stuff, then initiative winner fires all their stuff)*. It is therefore possible for the winner of initiative to possibly find it necessary to choose to block LoS. Also, based on how the BattleDroids text is worded, it would seem as though two hip crits would result in zero MP and a +4 to PSRs (+2 from the first hip, and “adds another +2 modifier” from the second hip hit). All the later iterations of rules make it seem as though there is only a single +2 even with both hips hit. *I do not have a BattleDroids book, but I do own everything from rules of warfare (FASA 1626) to BattleMech Manual, and they all word firing order as “initiative loser fires a unit, then initiative winner fires a unit and it proceeds in this alternating fashion until all units have fired”.

    • @BattleBound
      @BattleBound Місяць тому

      I have a very specific response for the initiative thing, and yes, it includes technically correct (but still not necessarily correct all the time). I'm currently running a game at a convention, but when I'm home I'll have time to address this specifically (but it involves Gen Con).

    Shiny. Some crits happen often enough that you know what to do. Others are so rare you have to look it up. Like Life support hits. Now I have the terrible urge to go build something with an XXL engine and prototype improved jump jets.

    The initiative bit for line of sight on a hex edge is that once the decision is made by a defender, it sticks for those two units until the end of the turn. So if two mechs are dueling, the initiative winner will be defending first and picks which hexes the other player’s line of sight passes through. That choice then sticks when the initiative winner declares their own attacks.

    • @BattleBound
      @BattleBound Місяць тому

      I am currently running a game, but I promise to come back to this later!

    • @BattleBound
      @BattleBound 29 днів тому

      Otay. I'm back and I got some time before today's game where I can spit. So - while you are technically correct (the best kind of correct - see, I told you I'd use it) - it isn't correct all the time, and I'll explain with the Grand Melee seen in my GenCon vid. That game, initiative was handled by playing cards, as seen. They were dealt out 1 or 2 at a time, and each person would move when their name was called. Pretty standard. When shooting time came, though, this order went in reverse. The initiative WINNER was now shooting FIRST, despite the RAW having that order go the other way around. When the last player finished their move, they were shooting. This is the key factor - the LOS is not tied specifically to initiative. Back home, we have what is colloquially known as "The Chuck Blankenship Manouvre". It is the act of purposely declaring no fire so that the enemy will be forced to make you the defender if he wants to try and shoot you - then you flip the script on them and you get to make the call. LOS is only checked it someone is shooting at you. If they specifically said they ain't - you might be getting Chuck'd, idk what to tell you. I try to teach all my players that one. Ask 'em. But see, if the LOS choice were tied specifically to the initiative, then the Chuck Blankenship Manouvre would just be a Blank Chuck. The winner would always have the choice regardless of what the loser chose to do, and as evidenced by the CBM, that is not guaranteed to always be the case.

    • @scottsgameroom1
      @scottsgameroom1 29 днів тому

      @@BattleBound yep, I was just pointing out why initiative order matters for it. The rule is first defender picks. There is definitely a player skill element at play too when there are more units on the board. Save declarations where LoS is on an edge to try to get your opponent to declare attacks first, make sure to target something else so that you can pick a defensive LoS against a dangerous attacker, and sometimes pick the less defensive LoS in order to open up easier return fire.

    • @BattleBound
      @BattleBound 29 днів тому

      @scottsgameroom1 Strategically, 100%, I wholeheartedly agree. However, the question is essentially: was there ever a time where the initiative winner had unilateral control over the choice of where LOS falls when the line traces directly between two hexes? The answer is "no". The loser can re-order it to benefit them, though I admit that the choice to do so is more what I'd consider a veteran-elite player move.

Nothing about replacing a white. Also what is a bonus die? If my company has a yellow die, and I add 2 from a card, roll all 3 and lock one - how do I know if the locked one was a bonus or was the starting colored die. What IS a bonus die?
