This has been a fantastic line with great likenesses, detail & accessories. It't be a crying shame if they didn''t carry on for a few more waves and give us the main characters that are still missing.

Unfortunately, Indiana Jones figures are a niche compared to other franchises and are only produced when capitalising on a new film 😕 shame really, as i was hoping for them to do more.
But I'm thankful to have my Raiders Indy and Toht figure

Sadly, it was doomed from the start. Recent and upcoming films and shows generate interest in action figures. You can't anchor a toy line to a film like Dial of Destiny and expect results.

We need a third party company to fill in the gaps with none TM characters, such as German soldier, German officer, Indian Cultist, Indian Cultist leader etc etc etc.

You mentioned that these are not meant for kids based on the pricing etc., yet the package is marked for kids 4+ years age. Hasbro may have to rethink about certain different branding for adult collectors and also may loose a certain market share due to the rebranding. Just my thoughts.
The best way out would be Pulse exclusives for all those pending figures...especially Mola Ram.

As a crystal skull fan I am annoyed they flat out ignored it. I personally would like a Mutt, Willie and Crystal skull accessory to finish the base display. But I don’t know if hasbro would do that. I would like at the very least for their to be a crystal skull accessory to complete the set of mcguffins (don’t care for the dial.

Agreed, I definitely think they should at least do Indy, Mutt, Spalko and Dovchecho to complete the movies, along with a Mola Ram & Willie. Do a final 6 figure wave with the build an artefact as the Crystal Skull/Skelton with gold throne, then I wouldn’t mind if they stopped after that.

The characters that I still want from this line include:
    RAIDERS
    *Colonel Dietrich
    *Indiana(German Disguise)
    *Marion(White Dress)
    *German Mechanic
    *Cairo Swordsman
    TEMPLE
    *Mola Ram
    *Willie Scott(Club Obi Wan)
    *Willie Scott(Ceremonial)
    *Thuggee Chieftan
    *Lao Che
    CRUSADE
    *Indiana(Young River Phoenix)
    *Colonel Vogel
    *Sallah(Fez Hat)
    CRYSTAL SKULL
    *Indiana
    *Mutt Williams
    *Irina Spalko
    *George "Mac" McHale
    *Dovchenko
Unfortunately, Idk if this line is completely dead or not, which is a true shame. It has so much potential. Mola Ram & Willie Scott are a MUST. The line feels truly incomplete without them.

Some great choices there, throw in a Build An Artefact Crystal Skeleton with throne for the KOTCS wave and it’d sell! Sadly don’t think Hasbro are interested in any more Indy figures.

    • @zanestice1137
      @zanestice1137 7 місяців тому +1

@@beardedgeektoyreviews836 Absolutely. In a perfect world, the KOTCS figures would build the Skeleton w/ throne Artefact. All of the other figures could easily be sold as retailer exclusives & 2 packs. Possibly a second Artefact build for the remaining TEMPLE figures. But as you said, Hasbro doesn't seem interested in Indy anymore and it's so disappointing.
IMO - Young Indy is an extremely underrated figure that nobody has ever mentioned for this line & I think it's a true shame. We NEED the Cross of Coronado!! It belongs in a museum!!

The avoidance of key bad guys such as the uniformed Germans, Cairo henchmen, Shanghai Gansters and of course Mola Ram/Thugee cultists was a huge fail and an obvious 2023 politically correct move as these characters were released in the 2011 3.75 line, prior to Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. This could have been a great line, if they just ignored the PC BS. Its also why we didn't get Willie Scott, because she filled the 'damsel in distress' trope and Disney can't allow that the days. I've avoided the DoD characters and will wait for them to go discount for the artefacts and bin them as that film gave me a renewed appreciation of KoTCS.

Where did you get that t shirt? I love it.
Also I agree with your points here. I really wish Hasbro atleast gave us one more wave with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull characters like Mutt Williams, Indy 4, Irna, Mac, and of course Mola Ram. Still crossing my fingers for one or two waves. Online exclusives would be great. Great video man.
I already did a kitbash of my own. The Last Crusade face print has the best likeness of Harrison Ford so I popped the head off and put it on the Raiders Indy figure and wow. Awesome figure. Also did a black wash on the whip and its a beauty.

    • @beardedgeektoyreviews836
      @beardedgeektoyreviews836  9 місяців тому

Cheers man, thank you for the comments and for watching. I’ve considered doing a wash on the whips as the colour for them is far too light. The whip that came with the DoD Indy was cast in a darker brown which looked far better.
The t-shirt was from a website called Unique Designs UK, they also sell via eBay.
We can only hope Hasbro have a change of heart and keep the line going, I guess time will tell.

I hated Dial of Destiny. If folks liked it, that is their prerogative and I won't argue with them. However its kind of silly if Disney don't want figures with that kind of stigma when they literally had a Nazi in DoD donning a red arm band with the goal of going back in time, killing Hitler and winning WW2.
Its not like putting out these figures is glorifying them when these guys always get killed in some gruesome fashion.
Hell they even made a figure of Voller.
Its a shame because as you and others have said these figures carry a premium price of $25. Parents aren't buying these for their kids to play with. There is another youtuber who said that kids dont care about toys. They have electronics,.etc. its the guys in their 30's and up that grew up with this stuff that are buying figures.
If Disney is behind it? Its no wonder. Look at the mountains of Star Wars characters cluttering up the likes of Ollies. You can still find figures of Rey on shelves all these years later. I expect the same will be true of DoD figures like Helena Shaw who many didnt like. It was a divisive film. People will buy legacy star wars characters. They will buy legacy Indy characters. They dont really care about the newer characters Disney are putting out. How many Teddy figures do people think they would likely sell versus say...Shortround? And Indiana Jones hasnt had the best franchise care as it is. Whilr Star Wars continued to get comics, books, legacy toys and merch? Indiana Jones had maybe 1 game and 1 book (army of the dead). The last time Indy had any big wave of merch was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and that film despite its flaws and negative perception performed better on a cheaper budget than DoD.
We should get characters like Mola Ram, Irina Spalko and Mutt.
Kingdom is also unique in that its the only film that had Russian's as the baddies which would bring some variety to the line.

@@beardedgeektoyreviews836 Subscribed. I love the Indiana Jones series (save for DoD). But I have always been a bit bummed out there hasn't been the same kind of love/merch that Star Wars has had. I was pleasantly surprised by the Hasbro 6" Adventure series. I wasn't sure what to expect (Raiders Indy was the first I bought). The detail and quality were pretty good. Really liked the weathering on the jacket. I've bought other figures like Figmas and the quality can be hit or miss. My Solid Snake Figma I got in particular was pretty bad. So while I didn't like DoD? I do hope that the line continues to include figures for Indy fans of all kinds.

Cracking video Jason. Good breakdown and thoughts. 👍I don't think DOD performed how retailers wanted, and now with the added distribution problems, it makes sense this could well be over with no further projected excitement for Indy products or material. A shame, but it feels the Indy collectables / figures have never really hit the high note. The questionable sculpting of Harrison Ford's face has always put me off; it just doesn't look like Indy.
They should have done five waves. One for each film, with one version of each key character within. Sorted. Not this mish-mash, seemingly random collection.

Thanks for the kind words, yeah Hasbro have pretty much nailed his likeness but some of the other stuff like busts from Gentle Giant or statues from Diamond Select are just nothing like Ford. In this day and age of digital face scanning, it really shouldn’t be that difficult to capture an actors likeness.

I absolutely love this line. Originally I was only going to buy an indiana Jones, Now I'm only missing 3. Yes there are too many indiana Jones's but still no regrets and I payed full price for every one of them. As you point it out the line is missing so many bad guys. What good is a hero without villains? The line was also plagued with very hit or miss on the shelves. I either solve six of one figure or just nothing. Walmart said they were going to carry it but never got one. Marketing was terrible. And that's unfortunate with all the accessories that these figures come with. Thank you for the video. These figures are probably a decade or two too late, unfortunately. They DID do a pretty good job with these... but I think the line is dead. They certainly won't go very deep into some of the "touchy" characters like the German Mechanic (though they did do him in their retro line?), and they won't go for Young Indy or other areas that get super niche. I won't get a Sophia Hapgood from Fate of Atlantis and that's sad.

I enjoy this line, but the fact it ended up a series of men in suits kind of limits things. Since they were unwilling or unable to do more diverse characters from Temple and Crusade? Kind of the end. Just look how well received the handful of unique guys like the Grail Knight were received. Also an accessory pack with more artifacts and firearms would have been neat, or a playset (sorry "diarma since we're "adults" now lol). In the end, we got over 2 dozen IJ figures; more than we had a year ago right? Some is always better than none. If nothing else, the line was worth it just to get Henry Jones Sr.

The company and maybe toy companies in general need to market items like this to the collectors only and not mass market. They should also stop anchoring their business model on the success or failure of a film. If they just released good quality figures in a limited run to the collectors market, they would sell out completely at full market price. I saw most of the first wave of these figures at a local Target marked down to $7.50 each. I picked up the Indy figure and am heading back to grab the others if they’re still there.

I think they tied the success of this line to the 5th movie and not to the franchise history despite the figures being for the prior movies. Loading up the line with just Indy and ignoring key characters was a telltale sign this was not going to last. Not to mention the lack of a con or pulse exclusive. Yeah this line isn’t really for me, I can’t quite put my finger on it why not…. 🤔 Maybe if I see one in the wild.
I think Hasbro have their hands tide by Disney who are in a similar situation whereby they are scared to offend someone. Hopefully they never realize that the whole Indy franchise is a bit white washed, even having a white Welshman playing an Arab and the only black character I can think of being a pirate/slave trader. 😂

You make some very good points, if they cast a Welshman in a role like that today, there’d be uproar!! 🙈

I've bought the majority of these IJ figures. A pity we can't get those critical characters such as Mola Ram, Willie, Cairo Swordsman or ANY German ! Once again woke rubbish intrudes into our lives and tells us how to think & flinching at anything THEY deem to be offensive. Disney & indeed Hollywood take the "Woke Koolaid" intravenously these days. Here in Australia we can only buy the Indy figures from speciallty stores or Amazon.

Thanks for watching, distribution is one of the main factors I think about why this line hasn’t been as successful as it could’ve been. Also going by Disney’s logic, how is a Nazi major like Toht acceptable yet other characters aren’t? Completely makes no sense!!

Indy Adventure series was and is a great line, but Hasbro is short changing themselves by being woke shitheads .. No Katanga , No Thuggee , No Cairo Swordsman , or Monkey Man , No Germans ..I guess Hasbro has not figured out , these toy are not for kids.. they are for us adults..

I don’t think it’s Hasbro as they produced most of these characters you mention for the 2008/09 3.75” line, I honestly think (and have heard) it was Disney who blocked them from being made.

The Black Series, Adventure Series, Marvel Legends, GI Joe Classified simply won't last, their just to expensive. And not very core centric.

GI Joe will as Hasbro own it outright, the rest are all licensed to them so all it takes is a competitor to come in next time that licence is up for renewal for them to lose them.

Agreed 110%! Indy can't work in hypersensitive 2023 sadly.
Cairo swordsman, mola ram, lao che, wu han, vogel, dietrich, mechanic, hovitos warrior? The woke mafia will never shut up about it.
Then on the other side, we can't have crystal skull figures because of the whiny boomers that cried and soiled themselves over the film. Making those figures would be financial poison. I really want more figures.
Those concept images you showed is what they SHOULD be doing, considering theyve reused the body of obi wan indy for the venice version. I think a couple more as well.
    Also, wicked cool shirt!

I think the controversy attached to certain characters will be what sells them, hell I even want a Hitler figure, just call him the furor.

I love these figures, but we need more villains. Like molerram, the evil colonel from crusade,Willie Scott club obi wan, the furor Hitler, giant thugee thug,Lao Che. And maybe a knights tomb play set.
