If one knows kids, one knows any generation. Children don't change, for if they have changed, they have grown up. Adults and the toys children get are what change.
A child will play with physical toys just the same as any other if kept away from electronics. A typical child from the 40s will love Thomas the Tank engine as much as any child today, even if crazy parents find it "problematic" and too "masculine." Same with cars, soldiers, dolls and building blocks.
I'm lucky my parents got me a hoard of videocasettes and CD-ROMs, with no internet until I needed it for school. I hope others do the same to keep their own children's minds and imaginations healthy.

this 💯🎯Being a child doesn't mean that you can't handle serious and sad topics, it's even essential to confront them to grow. I saw this movie when I was 6 and I'm fine, also I understood everything Plus this movie helps children dealing with the concept of death and accepting the differences of characters, backgrounds...

I will be 32 in less than 2 months. I watched this film non-stop as a kid. I remember asking my mom to put in in our "rewinder" and saying "again mom, again". This would happen multiple times a day. No tears were ever drawn as a kid. Now I hear the 1st few notes of this score and its a waterfall. My favourite movie as a kid, followed closely by Charlotte's Web. Both tear-jerkers now that I have trouble bringing myself to watch because of the amount of tears they force out of me.
I feel sadness at the end of films like Braveheart, Gladiator and 300. Testosterone-fueled epics where our hero dies. But Land Before Time, a "child's film", reaches deeper down and touches something primal. Its power is on a much higher level. I am not ashamed to admit that this film (and score) effect me in a very profound way. I hope one day I can share this with kids of my own.

The soundtrack is simply amazing and majestic, I can tell the scenes from the movie as the track plays out.
    1:50 The title appears
3:43 Ducky hatches, plays around and camera pans over to when Cera hatches
4:48 Camera pans to Littlefoot's egg in the rain, getting in danger and saved by his mom
5:45 Littlefoot hatches (my absolute favourite bit, this part makes me so emotional. Littlefoot's first moments in life is one of the most tender and beautiful moments I've seen in any movie)

James Horner - among the films we grew up watching as children were those composed by you. The Land Before Time was one of them. Your distinctive orchestral suites and the angelic choirs hold a magical nostalgia that never dies. Your music is among the scores that steal our breath away. I still get goosebumps by such old school film scores which composers rarely make nowadays. Your music was phenominal! May your soul rest in peace Mr. Horner! We were in shock of your death! But your music made you a legend! We shall miss you, but your music will live on!
You were and always will be the man! ;...(

This entire soundtrack was just phenomenal. It was better than it had any right to be. Arguably James Horner’s masterpiece.
Teamed up with Don Bluth it was a match made in heaven. The sequence where Little Foots mother fights off the T-Rex is so powerful.
You can really tell that the thematic elements of the story really inspired James Horner. Learning how to cope with the loss of a mother is the heart of the story. It’s helped many kids who’ve had to go on that journey.

Billy Ray, this. Every word in your comment is true. Every music composer has a particular sound. For James Horner, he somehow made animated movies so majestic. His work, along with those of John Williams, truly remind me of my childhood. Still miss him.

This brings back memories. It's like I'm eight years old again. It's the early 90s, we're on summer holidays and my sister (age six) would have just had an argument about who gets control over the TV remote. We would have compromised and decided to put on a movie that we both enjoy. So we pop up it in the VHS player and watch Land Before Time for the upteenth time - at this point, both of us can probably quote most of the movie verbatim.
I'm now 37 and have a career as an archaeologist (not a paleontologist, but that would have been fitting for this comment!). My sister is 35, working as a nurse, and is married with a daughter on the way, who, I hope, will have a chance to see this movie at some point in the next few years. Time flies.
On another note, I was just listening to some Dvorak and heard a few familiar musical phrases. Easy to see where Horner might have gotten some of his inspiration (it was one of the Slavonic Dances that set off my memory).

This sad, emotional and beautiful movie learned me something very important in my life: even if we are all different, even if we live in a world where racism, prejudice, violence, injustice and horrors exist, we must put aside prejudice and learn to move forward together and show solidarity for everyone.
Because in the end, the great cycle of life will end for all of us and we should evolve to be able to live together in the Great Valley.
Utopia unfortunately cannot exist, but to travel our long years while having done the possible for a better world should be the motor of each one.
That’s what this film taught me about life from an early age.

Narrator: Once upon this same earth, beneath this same sun, long before you, before the ape and the elephant, as well; before the wolf, the bison, the whale, before the mammoth and the mastodon, in the time of the dinosaurs. Now the dinosaurs were of two kinds. Some had flat teeth, and ate the leaves of trees, and some had sharp teeth for eating meat, and they preyed upon the leaf-eaters. Then it happened that the trees began to die. The mighty beasts who appeared to rule the earth, were, in truth, ruled by the leaf. Desperate for food, some of the dinosaur herds struck out to the west, in search of the Great Valley, a land still lush and green. It was a journey toward life.

This was the first movie I was obsessed with as a child. Born 1 month before it's release in the UK and watched it many times between ages 3-9ish. Now, nearly 25 years later and not seeing it for that duration, I realise how special it is and how much it means to me. Listening to this beautiful piece gave rise to a wave of emotion and vaguely flickered bits of the scene in my mind.
If this is the last thing I hear as an old man, in those moments before I pass, I will die smiling with a tear in my eye.

James Horner was the part of the Holy Trinity of "Js" to me at least. They are Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams and James Horner....Sadly only John Williams is still alive of the three. Jerry Goldsmith lost his battle to cancer over 10 years ago. And James Horner as we already know has left us as well.
