My first thoughts were of Remus Lupin, regretting how he didn't have anything beyond Wolfsbane Potion to help him through the painful physical/mental transition to wolf man each month. Wolfsbane Potion helps you retain your human consciousness but does nothing to numb, or even dull, the pain of transformation, never mind other ill effects of becoming a werewolf each month.
