  • It is an unspoken tradition that on a martial artsits wedding day, the bride and groom (if they both train) to do Bassai on the dance floor. I've witnessed this many times, watching a bride and groom in their wedding gear do Bassai is quite the site to see.
I went on a journey with some friends out into nature and this is that journey... along the way I did Bassai, its no wedding but it's just as beautiful.
I'm going to start posting cinematic, artsy videos like this every Thursday now, I'm really enjoying this and I get to be creative which I love. For anyone reading this, I hope you enjoy and look forward to these every Thursday at 11am pst.

i'm an older man now and it has been a long time since iv'e performed this form. one of my favorites along with pyong an yi dan. that's really crisp technique you have going there. quite awe inspiring to one who has been there . i lasted 11 years. i have no doubt that you will be doing this for life. you have no idea how much your videos have effected me. youv'e inspired me to start up a yoga program so that i may take back some of that flexibility i once had. been at it almost three months now. it's all because of you good buddy!!!!! by the way have you done videos on the niachi forms, i always found them to be somewhat fascinating.

@William Hurt You have touched my heart with your kind and honest words. Thank you so very much for sharing that with me. Having a form of motivation to keep going at any cost, is one of the most important and precious things in life. You have definitely given me a reason to keep going, Ikigai in Japanese they call it, inspiration, a reason to live.
I am so happy to hear that you have taken up yoga, which is a very challenging discipline so kudos to you for being advantageous enough to try that out. Keep going on and on and never stop, because there are only so many tomorrows.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I actually have, I did Nianchi cho dan in the same cinematic way as this Bassai form you watching. Check it out, letme know what you think: ua-cam.com/video/ld000B76jPg/v-deo.html
Again, thank you so much for watching and for your amazing comment, I can't for you to see more and to hear more about your progress with Yoga! Tang Soo!!!

I love watching other styles doing traditional Japanese forms. My lineage is tang soo do ( grandmaster kang uk Lee linage ) though I have trained in other traditional Japanese styles also.
Bassai fascinates me. We have always been instructed in TSD to perform Bassai ( the cobra form ) as a snake. For example after your bassai ready stance, you would inhale slowly rising up and filling your chest and then quickly drop forwards into the double forearm block. Like a cobra striking.
the little differences in these forms between the styles is mainly due to how that style breaks down the movement and how it should be executed. Eg. I’ve seen the sweeping blocks at the end of bassai been used as a low block, a low backhand strike and a leg sweep! Anyway I could go all night on this so I’ll stop now🙄
    TANG SOO! 👊

Jondapom hahaha no no keep going !! Thank you so much for your insight. Being able to see how other styles do it, is the journey I’m on right now. I am also fascinated with other systems and how they do the same forms we do but different at the same time. I’m soon going to do a “kata wars” and make a video mix of all the styles doing the same form , but in their own way. Be on the look out!

I've seen Bassai performed in many versions of martial arts and I personally believe that Tang Soo Do has the most brilliant version of all. Even better than the Chang Moo Kwon Tae Kwon Do version hands down.

it is like the wado bassai , a few differences, both wado and tang so do (my understanding of tang so, i could be wrong), is that both developed from shotokan, wado adding shindo yoshin ryu, and tang soo adding its own korean flare.
