Hey, did something change in the latest versions? I'm not getting the two material slots when I import in Unreal Engine. In Houdini it kills the materials when I do a final Assemble, I think the data is still there because if I unpack then the materials are still present. However, if I plug in the Unpack into the export then I just don't get a mesh at all in the export. Really confused.
Figured it out, turns out with latest Houdini you are supposed to use a ROP FBX SOP (Houdini community has way too many abbreviations...) and RBD to FBX is obsolete and is planned to be deprecated in the future versions. Make sure you tick "Build Hierarchy from Path Attribute" on the ROP FBX output
@@max-sworn And then you'll get a ton of piece meshes each with its own animation track! At least in my case: i.imgur.com/ZdDd8fj.jpg Ragarding to rbd2fbx - 1.0 doesn't count "root" transform in sop, 2.0 has bugs and produces glitches with some small parts animation, 3.0 doesn't write matrial ids.
@@tertiumorganum5665 Wow, that's a totally different result than I got, mine imported the way you'd expect (identical to what is shown in this tutorial). Seems like that export is very finnicky. As a side note: you may want to look into vertex animation textures for RBD export, SideFX labs people have a video on vimeo about that, it's not that much harder to set-up (probably adds a minute or two to the pipeline), but the result is much much more optimized, you can have hundreds of this same effect without a real performance dip.
Hello, if you see “rbdpackedobject1” at 4:10 Duration in this video, that option not coming in my Houdini any one can help me with that I am Stuck there please. Thanks.
possibly, or Alembic instead of FBX might be the way. The only restrictions I found was the poly count upon import to unreal engine and also using animation bones amount... so importing is as a alembic or VAT might be better solution (VAT - Vertex animation texture)
Hey thanks for this tutorial! Which houdini do I need if I want to do work such as yours? Id like to bring my houdini fx into Unreal just like you. Which version of Houdini do I need? Thanks!

thanks for that, I will probably update the tutorial at some point

Thanks for this... cant find other tutorials where they start from scratch. Keep up the good work, earned a sub!
You’re welcome! And thanks
Nice, Simple And Quick, Really Good Job Dude!
Great stuff! Really love the workflow you show from H to UE...keep that up.
Thanks, will do!
Thanks. Please do more houdini to unreal tutorials!
Will do, maybe in the future :)
thanks for sharing~ is it possible to bring 3d model fbx or obj to SideFX Labs or we have to built the whole model in Houdini and make VFX
Yeah you can import Fbx files into Houdini, try using file node for import
@@1MaFX thanks for your help~
Great tutorial, can you do a summons tutorial? Houdini to unreal?
when sending big destruction sims to unreal from houdini, we would use the same workflow? im not talking about games, just cinematography stuff..

I usually just grab latest production ready version, I think any version from 18.5 will be ok
FYI when importing your fbx, make sure 'Import Animations' is also ticked on the import window :)
Ah Yes! Thanks for highlighting this.
It sucks that Houdini Apprentice doesn't let you export as an FBX. Great tutorial!
haha remember it's a free version for you to explore houdini :)
Thanks. I wanted to know whether it was possible to do it with Houdini Apprentice
Thanks for this! I've been struggling with using RBD fracture and RBD to FBX.
I'm glad I hopefully was able to help you!
@@1MaFX Very helpful. Have you used the Labs RBD fracture or Labs RBD solver
? Would you recommend this method over using the Labs versions?
How did you get those two "OUT" panels on the right side of the screen?
Switch to the 'Games' workspace. In the top panel where it is written 'Build', switch it to 'Games', the other two OUT panels should show up,
Awesome, thanks!
Please make some tutorial on Houdini fire smoke to unreal and also flip fluid to unreal 🙏🙏
sounds like a long VFX course you're after, maybe in the future
@@1MaFX yes but it's urgent try to make a simple video soon
Odd, my timeline stops the simulation at frame 49 when I play back.
cool,thanks
quick question, will this work with a .obj or does it need to be .fbx?
great video btw.
Thanks Alexandre! Glad you enjoyed it. I think obj won’t work. FBX is able to pack information like bones and animation sequence
Rbd to fbx Labs tool makes geometry with a skeleton! So it should work with Ray Tracing unlike the VAT method.
I think rbd to fbx is more expensive in terms of performance then VAT. But I personally like the workflow :)
Could you have tutorial without music
I get lost in a fantastik video of yours
