- It Begins...
Super Metroid has one of the best soundtracks of any videogame out there, so I decided it would be cool to recreate it in high fidelity using hardware synthesizers. It's been a fun project and I hope you enjoy it!
I set up a Patreon, so if you wanna see more content like this come on over :)

Is this not one of the most awesomely terrifying opening title screens ever, or what?
Not just terrifying, one of the BEST opening titles for a game, period. Even if you've never played a Metroid game before, this opening instantly grabs your attention, draws you in and immerses you into the world masterfully, as well as leaving you thoroughly disturbed.
Danny Boi Amen.
It is GOD tier music.
Dude it's criminal that you can't get paid for that Brinstar Red Soil mix, it's amazing.
Oh god it's happening. The time is now. I'm not ready for this.
Well if Nintendo won't let me buy it, where can I donate the amount it would cost?
you can buy the first Metroid: Resynthesized (that one is licensed properly) on itunes or google play, or my bandcamp page if you'd like to support me that way! :) links are in the video description
Done. The least I can do for this incredible work.
thanks so much!
@@Luministmusic Is this not on bandcamp anymore?
this guy sure has an attentive ear.
hope you'll keep gaining support and find the energy and inspiration to continue producing music.
I loved your NES Metroid series an this one is already amazing!
Holy crap, YES! Finally, it's here (vol. 1 anyway)! I just downloaded it, and man I've got to say, it was DEFINITELY worth the wait!
I do have some suggestions though:
1) Would it be possible in a later volume, for tracks that have additional SFX in them, to include versions without the SFX (such as the title theme without the baby metroid noises, the "Arrival in Crateria" track without the rain SFX (used when your in the Crateria underground) and two versions of the Wrecked Ship music, one without SFX for when the power is off and another with SFX for when the power is on after beating Phantoon)? Since those are considered separate tracks, I feel like having the two versions of those pieces would be nice, especially for those who prefer the versions without the additional SFX.
2) When you do finish the entire soundtrack, would it be possible to put up the tracks online in _lossless_ audio formats (.flac, .wav, etc...)? Even though it already sounds great, MP3 320 is still a pretty lossy format, so having a lossless quality version of your rendition of the OST would be a godsend!
With that said, keep up the great work dude! And I can't wait for the rest of it!
When I saw this in my notifications, it put a smile on my face. I remember discovering your NES Metroid album on UA-cam and listening to it while I finished up my Senior Year. Keep up the good work.
Man this makes me so happy, I loved your remake of the first Metroid, but this I know I'm gonna love this one even more.
Just recently discovered your channel and your synth remakes and holy shit these are phenomenal. Gives me massive John Carpenter vibes.
The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace...
You deserve a lot more attention! You're mad talanted. I'm enjoying your music
thank you!
Just popping by to say I found your Metroid: Resynthesized on Apple Music & am LOVING it. Thank you for putting it up there, & keep up the excellent work!
thank you very much!
YO ITS ON APPLE MUSIC???
@@fruitsnackbandit4987 not exactly his Super Metroid iteration, but his Full Metroid 1986 album iteration is on iTunes
Hi. I would like to make an MSU-1 pack with your music. Could you possibly provide versions of your music without sfx? (metroid cries, rain in crateria etc)
The Metroid noise sounds like a real animal could make it and it’s VERY UNSETTLING. Otherwise, amazing remix.
Yaaasss!
So looking forward to the full OST!
follow the link in the description, you can get the whole thing already :)
Luminist
Ooh, nice! But you also took the time to edit videos. Look forward to those too!
Oh sweet. I didn't know that Super Metroid's soundtrack was also getting this treatment. I'm glad I subscribed back when I first heard the first Metroid Resynthesized.
Shame about the licensing deal, though.
This is amazing. I hope with your permission someone can mod this into Super Metroid MSU-1
Oh man, you were working on Super Metroid? This is going to be amazing. Great stuff!
Oh crap I just found out you did Super Metroid. I love this so much.
Oh, man. This is so deliciously creepy. Looking forward to hearing the rest of it!
God damn this makes me want a Metroid movie so bad.
How about anime at first…
I think this is more appropriate)
I really can't wait for Lower Norfair and the Mother Brain Theme
Dude, I got the chills from listening to this...
Of course those blockheads over at Nintendo of North America would turn this down. My friends and I love your work!
Holy fuck this is literally the best version of this song. Nice job dude.
PLEASE put this on vinyl
...Might sound too similar to something they were already doing for Smash Ultimate. Best guess given recent announcements there.
that's a good guess! it's more the fact that if Nintendo hasn't released an official soundtrack for one of its IPs, it won't allow any covers to be officially released for that music either. Super Metroid's music has never had a release outside of a videogame so that's why.
The fact that this game sold subpar in Japan is just mind-boggling. Metroid 3 has the hardest game into ever.
Shame about the licensing. Do you think when you finish the whole OST you'll re compile it all into one album? Also, can I pay anyway somehow? $5
was a very fair price for the first game, I'd love to keep supporting you if I can.
Wait a minute... 15 tracks on this album? You're already halfway through the soundtrack as it is! Excellent, I was kind of expecting 5-10 songs, I'm pleasantly surprised
Thank you for watching/listening! If you'd like to support me please head over to my bandcamp page: luministmusic.bandcamp.com/ where you can pay what you like for some of my original work :)
The textures in the distortions you run are what really do it for me. Haunting, cold, awesome. Wish I could buy these Metroid songs of you, but I take it that is a no-go ;D?
Shame you couldn't get the licensing! loved the first Metroid re-synthezied soundtrack!
Excellent work as usual and great to have you back! What synths did you use on this track?
thank you! korg MS20 mini on this one
I don't have any words to say... it's just amazing. You increased strength of the music so much.
So fucking awesome, gave me chills
SA-1 patch?
for those who don't know, an SA-1 patch allows you to play SNES game with a CD-quality soundtrack, such as this one.
this shits fucking crazy
The first Metroid game I played all the way through. I heard how the NES game was so hard. You're doing awesome reworking of the soundtrack! Thanks again! And especially for the explanation videos!
Clearly your best work! I was not a fan of 'upper brinstar' which I normally love but this track you've got 100%
If there ever might actually be a Metroid movie and it does not start with this theme (especially the part from 0:25), I will literally scream at the screen.
I was wondering if you could make a version without the Metroid Chitters?
(Not standard user speaking.)
Yes!! Was just listening to your first album in the car today and now this! Excellent my man. That's unfortunate with the licensing situation but I'd love to hear your rendition of the full ost! Take all the time you need. But for now, keep up the damn fine work!
thank you! these will keep coming, eventually
Fuckin fantastic! Can't wait for more of this.
But the reason you couldn't license the entire super Metroid ost was because it was never released as a standalone soundtrack in your country. Only select tracks are licenseable
I've been waiting for this!
Waw, chilling effects. Powerful sound.
Amazing version, would love to do a title screen in HD to this!
Please do fusion after super Metroid, it had a really good soundtrack as well and I think it would sound good if you did it like the Analog synthoid and now super Metroid
I come home from work, and Luminist has made a new Metroid track. A great way to start the evening :)
The Metroid sounds more insect like, honestly I think it’s more creepy like that.
The new metroid sounds are so creepy but they work way better than the ogs metroid sounds
Gonna be refreshing your page constantly again. Thanks.
Recently found this artist. Stuff is criminally underrated
This was pleasant to wake up to.
Nintendo should hire you if they ever remake Super Metroid for a new console.
I really wish that this would be done with Fusion.
My galaxy will not be at peace until this is completed.
This so is good that I can't even.
Great job with the music I am excited to hear what lower brinstar will sound like
Sounds like XCOM Terror from the Deep
This gave me chills.
My deepest gratitude. Is there a way to donate you?
More please. I like your other stuff on Spotify, too.
Oh man, I was pumped when you first said you'd be getting around to remixing Super, and this definitely doesn't disappoint! I'm sure you already have what tracks you're remixing planned out, but fingers crossed for a Lower Maridia remix!
It's a real bummer to hear that you weren't able to get licensing for it, but hopefully this will get your name out there so people can buy your other stuff. Also, though I'll admit I honestly don't know much about the logistics of it all, have you considered setting up a Patreon? Again, not too familiar with how that would cover living expenses, but it'd be cool if that was an option that allowed you receive some income while making remixes!
I thought about doing Patreon, but legally it's pretty iffy given that I can't get a license to sell this particular album. maybe if it were geared toward my original music.. who knows I might do it in future!
Ah, that'd make sense. Hope you'll find something that works out!
So amazing, I’ve been so excited for this, every piece of music I’ve heard from you has been stupendous! Only just now realized the first album is available on iTunes, I definitely plan to get it. Can’t wait to see what you do next!
This literally gave me chills, incredible.
is this gonna be one track a week again? i think that's how you did it when you released metroid resynthesized
also super bummed that i can't buy it this time around. i'll have to toss you money in some other way shape or form :)
gonna try for two a week. there's a lot to get through and I want to release some original music soon! :)
Listening to the album now. Sounds fantastic! Sucks about the licensing deal, but i'll just go buy a random song of yours on bandcamp for the price of an albums worth of SM material so that sort of works! But yeah, like others have said, a lossless quality version of this would be perfect, as i have your other Metroid album in flac off of Bandcamp. :)
thank you! :)
I'll try to get a flac version happening at some point but it might be awhile - takes ages to reconfigure files with the right titles, track listing etc when doing it on your own!
Hey there Luminist! Do you have at least any intentions to upload your Super Metroid album on iTunes? Just like your version of Metroid 1986.
unfortunately not :( Super Metroid's soundtrack can't be licensed as Nintendo never officially released it anywhere. You can grab the tracks free from the link in the video description tho!
So eerie... very spine-chilling. I love it!
Luminist... Goosebumps man, keep up the excellent soundtrack!
would you like to help develop a Sega Dreamcast game, with a team of 15 people, and receive payment far exceeding the industry standard?
hey there just checking in again, this project sounds pretty cool and I'd be keen to learn more! feel free to email me - the address is on my channel's "about" page. cheers
Luminist, still the same hardware as last time? I bought my first analog synth because of your Metroid remake. Keep up the good work!
mostly an MS20 mini yep! "Arrival In Crateria" is the only one where I used a roland JU06 instead. glad I influenced your decision, hope you're having fun with your synth!
did you use the synth to make a new chirp too??
This is awesome! Can't wait to hear the rest!
I love this, and I love you.
3 decades later and still the best piece of horror vgm ever composed
my god this sounds amazing
Can't wait to buy this to go along with the first one!
I just found your channel and your Metroid remixes.
Dude. Thank you.
I really can't say anything more relevant than that. Thank you, you make amazing music.
Fantastic stuff. Just downloaded Vol 1, and bought your original Metroid OST by way of thanks.
As with your original Metroid resynth, this really feels like the music being realised on the instruments the composers had in mind, rather than what they actually had to work with.
You have no idea how happy this makes me!
Is there a FLAC version?
I CAN'T LIKE THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to hear your rendition of Lower Norfair's theme
Everything about this album of remixes is perfect. It really encapsulates the original feel of the music perfectly. A lot of metroid remixes struggle with that but WOW is this amazing!
Oh my God, hell yes!
First the original Metroid, and now this?! Take my money!
YES. ITS FINALLY HERE. YAAAAYYY
Awesome work! I searched for the main title theme orchestra and was disappointed because this... this is what I was looking for.
sell me this now.
it's a need.
you can get it for free :) check video description for the link!
Vangelis?
YESSSSS!!!!
He's back
Now that's a toe tapper
single handedly the best vibrations my brain has ever had to process.
:-D
Oh YESSS!!! Waited so long for this!! Great work man!
Yeahhhhhh
AWW MAN, FINALY!
