Thanks Chris for this great video! I just purchased my first ebike (Lectrix XP) before I found your videos. I live in Michigan, but your videos such as this one; I am amazed on just how complex these machines are getting to be, at least, electronic wise. With your videos and the information that you are providing, will give me the knowledge that I will need when I look for my next ebike! Thanks again.

I wanted to express my thanks for providing the solution to the problem with my wife's Intuvia display. Since new, her bike would randomly shut off, often on a bumpy road, and need to be re-started. The only solution I had for this problem was keeping the contacts surgically clean. The problem had been getting worse, sometimes shutting off twice or more during a ride. I knew it was contact related, but could not figure out why, and was thinking of replacing the display. Then I watched your video and noted your comment about possible warpage of the mount if it is too tight. So, I checked. It was way too tight as there were no gaps between the halves of the mount. Loosened it until it was movable. The random shut off problem has totally disappeared, and the bike is rock solid reliable now. Many, many thanks!

@@garyvernon5705 I probably have a very similar problem and your video pointed out this potential problem which is great, thank you. For me, after some months the original bolts loosened so much that one side of the mount clamps just fell off and disappeared. To prevent this happening to the other side, I tightened it a lot. It was all fine for a year, but recently some disconnection problem started, randomly disconnecting, also showing the flashing empty batter symbol. I will try to loosen the remaining bolts to see if it helps, but it's a bit hard to see how single side mounting (that was working fine) is now not working.

Excellent video. I was resigned to taking my Riesse and Muller Nevo GT to the shop because the display stopped functioning. I learned from Chris in the video that I can charge it via a micro USB port on the display's side -- OR turn on the display via the battery while it's on the bike. Huge relief.

Good timing for this. I just started getting that Service message when I turn the bike on. I assumed it was just a scheduled thing but it’s good to have that confirmed.
It’s annoying though because I just took my bike to the shop recently so they didn’t reset it. And I don’t think I’ll need another service for at least 6 months to a year. So I’m stuck with it for now.

My Brose mid-drive on a Bulls Lacuba evo8 power occasionally cuts out from a bump or won’t power on from off. Adjusting the battery mount so battery is tighter made a big difference. I also added a Velcro strap to hold battery extra secure. The battery electric connection doesn’t like the battery wiggling which creates an arc at those connections. Removing and reinstalling battery should make the battery light bars turn on; if they don’t just do it again w/ a little emphasis. Unplugging the display and left thumb pod and replugging those 2 connections also a quick fix if they aren’t tight. Pressing the battery on/test button also “wakes up” the display sometimes, along w/ removing and reinstalling it. The display also needs a good tight fit on its mount or the connections arc and shut off power until you reinstall the display again. I actually added a duct tape shim so the display connects a tad tighter when twisted in.
All minor issues that are ez do it yourself fixes out in the field.

Thank you very much for this video. Both my and my husband's bikes are not turning on. We did try cleaning the connections, but we didn't know anything about resetting the battery. @@Propelbikes yes sir. My bike will now turn on *if* I turn the battery on first. My husband's now shows Error 640. We also followed your advice and loosened the handlebar bracket, so that the display can be moved back-and-forth a bit.
Unfortunately we purchased the bikes early last year, from a bike shop that permanently closed it's doors earlier this year. I did do a search and found an authorized Bosch dealer a few towns away, so I'll call them on Monday to see if I can drop the displays and batteries off.
We had purposely purchased our bikes at a local shop as we do not have a heavy duty bike rack, nor a hitch on our car -- it was easy enough to peddle down to the local shop. So I hope this bike shop doesn't require me to bring the bikes in too.

Excellent video. I see a number of unanswered questions regarding the USB port on the Intuvia. The manual clearly says that the USB port is for charging devices like a phone. It doesn't say anything about being able to charge the DISPLAY'S small battery. So, per your video I am confident that the Battery in the display can be charged through the USB port because you have probably proved that works many times. What is hard to understand though is why the small display battery isn't maintained by the BIG battery because the power to charge devices has to come from the BIG battery, so it seem like a no brainer that the displays battery would also be charged by the BIG battery. A few words from you could clear up these questions for a lot of people. Thanks!

I started having intermittent problems with loss of communication between my Intuvia display and the battery. Thought it might have been moisture in the battery due to being in a heavy rain. A few months later I actually had one of the contacts on the display mount somehow come out so I think that was the original problem.

Hi Chris, best greetings from Germany.
I had an issue with intermittent motor assist. The indicated speed also varied between 0 and x.
The speed sensor was perfectly aligned with the magnet and both, magnet and sensor didn't look too dirty.
I then saw some shiny little particles on the magnet. After removing those the system worked fine.
Obviously the speed-magnet attracted some magnetic particles that influenced the magnetic field, resulting in faulty speed-readings and consequently the motor assist was deactivated.

We have two Bosch mid drive bikes with just over 4k miles on them over here in the UK - our local bike shop seems to that at 4K problems start to occur with the motor unit which are undiagnosable - how long should a Bosch system last and do you ever get stumped by a fault on a bike?

Hi Chris, thanks for the infos. I have a Bosch Performance CX with an Intuvia display. The motor once failed (Error 500) but got replaced by Bosch without any troubles. Now it works like a charm. Sometimes but rarely I have to switch the system on by pushing the button on the battery. I've installed a little screw that keeps the Intuvia in place so that it can't be stolen very easily. So the display is always mounted on my bike. Recently I noticed some water ingress in the form of some cloudy condensed vapor on the inside of the display (I keep my bike outdoors regardless of the weather). The cloudiness seems to have disappeared after few days.

Before I saw this video I believed the problem might be with the battery connection, because there is some oxidation there. I live in a very wet climate. Any tips on removing that? I have tried to find a spray to remove oxidation, but all the sprays I can find (contact cleaner) just seems to be some sort of general cleaing product that won´t short circuit or damage electrical equipment.

Hi Chris, I bought an Electra Townie Go I5 with a Bosch power system just a few weeks ago and love the bike but i find that I get little surges of power-assistance unless I am peddling pretty constantly hard against resistance. In other words, I might be going along at "Turbo," the top level of assistance, but can feel very slight variations in the amount of power assistance, which gives a slightly jerky feel to the peddles. Have you encountered this before? and if so, what can be done about it? Should I ask my dealer to reprogram the controller or something? Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom!

Great and informative video. I have the initial problem of the system not turning on all the time. Sometimes it comes up right away with Active Line Plus and the speed, and we are good to go. Sometimes I might have to wait 30 seconds, sometimes I will turn the rear wheel, jiggle with the display, use all the buttons, and this may or may not work (when it refuses to start we will try anything I suppose) If it does not work I might just pedal off unassisted, and maybe after a few km it may come on, or maybe not. I have pedalled home a fair distance unassisted at times. Often when it is working a small bump might switch it off, and it may come back or not. Yesterday I noticed that the bump switched the whole display off, not just the assist. I loosened off the mount yesterday (last time at the shop they obviously tightened it to within an inch of its life) for no change. I wiped all the connectors but really, the external design means they should be fail safe even with a bend in the mount. No corrosion etc evident. I might now try some micro sanding cloths to remove any grease that may be present. I am thinking maybe the problem is a connection somewhere further down the cabling, or a break in one of the circuit boards.

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  3 роки тому

it's possible that you need a new display mount. It's also possible that if it was too tight for a while that it could have warped. Maybe the shop can try a new one.

I took it abroad but was not allowed to take the battery with me! I bought a replacement 400 W 36V battery (similar to the original but not Bosch! ) and mounted it on the bike with the new battery mounting. The original battery had 4 wires (thick positive and negative plus two thin wires blue and green). The new battery only has two wires (thick positive and negative). please could you tell me what are the two thin wires which are now disconnected! and their function which the new battery does not have to connect to? when I turn on the battery, the display comes on for a split second indicating error then switches off and battery also switches off ! and although 36V does go to the motor, it motor does not run. How could I fix this issue? if necessary could I eliminate the controller in order to use the bike? how?

One thing is rain pouring down on the Purion, but rain at hi speeds on the hyway it's a different story altogether.

Thank you for the video. I am hoping you can help me with my Trek Allant 7+ S Stagger. It has a Bosch motor with 28 mph capable speeds in turbo and I do ride my bike anywhere from 4 miles to town and back to a 22 mile round trip to a bigger store and one on occasion I did go 29.5 round trip. Anyway after a few hundred miles I began to hear this skip clunk noise from the cassette in 9th gear only. I ride in 9th as that is the gear that gets me the 28 mph in turbo. Anyway the shop owner did ride next to me and saw and heard my noise and put in an order for a new chain and cassette. That took some time because of the supply shortages. But He did get them in and put them on the bike and it SEEMED ok for a few rides and then out of nowhere I began to get this loud SNAP. Again I ride on a paved heavily traveled route so I like to cruise in 9th at naer 28 mph except for hills witch I will then shift down to say 5th gear. Anyway this new SNAP was right below me and seemed to be the motor this time??? I called the shop back to say thanks for the parts and work but a new worse noise has appeared. Their solution, Use other gears. This is not acceptable for the cost and advertised speed capability I should be able to ride at near 28mph indefinitely and not get the use other gears excuse. I have also emailed them after that but have not received a reply. So I am left with an expensive bike that seems to be defective. When the speed drops to around 23 to 25 mph the SNAP arrives. Crusing along having a nice ride and then SNAP. Very disconcerting. Again I ride paved roads not in any mod or snow or rain only dry paved riding yet I am getting the snap. I think it may be the motor mounts or the like coming loose like you described. I have fixed use bicycles for almost 28 years but have not worked on e bikes or bosch so I am reaching out to you for advise. Should I demand that the shop fix it or put in a better business bureau case agains them. I am at a loss. I am now at 520 miles and feel like I have purchased a LEMON. Thanks for your time,,,

My Active Line engine has started to act just like when you change gears and you have to wait for just a moment before the gear change actually kicks in. If I'm riding and pressing the pedal down too slow OR fast, I hear a winding noise untill for a split second untill it actually starts working properly. And whenever I ride uphill the engine momentarily stops helping out about halfway through a wheel rotation. It works flawlessly when going downhill.
Thoughts? Oh, and my bike shop didn't know what the issue was either.
Btw because of ur videos I bought a Superdelite! 73 days left untill I get it.

Hello... Thnaks for a great video... I am having an issue with my Bosch Intuvia which is not shown in your video. During an overseas move from Germany to Canada, my ebike works fine but it is stuck in "Tour" mode. Initially, the display bettary was dead but was able to charge that via teh USB port as you have shown. The handlebar shifter does not work. I noticed that on the base plate under the display where the three golden and four silver colored connector pins are, one golden and one silver connector pin is missing. I presume that this is the reason I cannot shift modes. Do you know if these connector pins can be replaced or could I repair them by filling the cylindical holes with a wound aluminum foil. I have a picture if you are interested.

I have a 2016 performance line cx with 7700 miles. It just developed a high pitch vibration sound on top of the motor whine. This noise isn’t present with the motor off. Have you ever encountered something like this? Idea of what it may be?

I would check the motor mounting bolts and confirm they are torqued to spec. There is also a dampening film which goes between the motor and the frame which could be worn out or installed incorrectly. The added torque of the motor could cause this to only arise when the motor is being used.

I’m not sure if it’s the same in Germany, but you might be able to have your dealer make the lights switchable. This isn’t possible on high speed bikes in Europe, but it might be possible on yours if it’s not HS.

Well explained! But I still have 2 questions.
1: Is the intuvia display created for charging up my iPhone? Is this recommended since it will affect the internal battery?
2: I noticed the battery level of my intuvia dispay has 3 bars instead of 5 bars, so I plugged it in a power source but it just don’t want to charge up. Left it plugged it the whole night and it still shows 3 bars on the display. I watched it charging for a bit, when I plug the cable in the display lights go on and after a few minutes the display just shuts off, then after a few minutes the display lights up again, and this cycle goes on all the time without charging it up, what could be the issue? Or is this even an issue? Or should I just leave the display on the bike attached with the battery so It can charge the display this way..?

However, no power is coming through. This happened suddenly during a bike ride yesterday. It stopped completely and I cycled on no power for the final 5 miles. But, then suddenly the power kicked in for a few seconds several times during the final 5 miles. When I got home I looked at the sensor and it was out of position although I don't know how it could have moved as I needed a screwdriver to move it to where I think it should be. Any suggestions please? Many thanks, Ronnie
