@@kem1233 It's Houston vs. Washington, not exactly everyone's dream match-up. Plus, many games played late on weeknights does not lend itself to watching.
Also, this crew never once watched the nats. 1. Scherzer was never on the trade block 2. The nats manufactured offense late all year. Lead the league in runs after the 7th inning. 3. The nats where injured when they started off poorly. Rendon, turner, howie, Scherzer, Zimmerman, all hurt and missed time 4. This was the best team in baseball when healthy. "If I was the Washington Nationals, I was hoping they'd take out Zach Greinke." Yes. Just, yes. Every top inning was either one, two, three, done! or it was easy out on a flyball + one lucky hit + double play = inning over. The longer the game went with him on the mound, the more dejected I was becoming. The tide didn't start to turn until after he left the game.
As a NATIONALS fan it didn't matter to me because they were going to get to Greinke one way or another it was our year, wouldn't have cared if Cole came in, where's your faith? Watched the NATIONALS beat the best closer in baseball in Hader in the wild card game , after that I knew we could beat anybody!
thats true in the NFL too, 2017 eagles, 2011 packers, 2009 saints, both of Eli's Giants teams, 2012 ravens. it's whos hot cuz none of those were close to the best team in the league but won it all
The difference IMO to me is that the Astros, Yankees, Dodgers were coasting along towards the end of the season the Nationals according to their Manager, were playing playoff baseball since June 1 their intensity just to try to get in contention for a wild card spot, they were playing at a different level, IMO
The decision to put in Harris wasn't bad at the time. In fact, the pitch Howie hit was a GOOD PITCH, but the swing was better. Howie went after a good pitch low and away, and just barely got the home run.
When the Nationals were 19-30 after 50 in May, there was talk and questions about what should the Nats do, should they be buyers or sellers? Should they move Scherzer, Strs, how about Rendon? A lot of talk at that time. However, contrary to what was said in this video, Scherzer nor any Nat play ever went "on the block", at least non of the key players. No inquiries were made to see who was interested or who they might receive in return.
Did any one else notice the date the nationals won the world serie on? 10/31/19, first 50 games they were 19-31...this team was just destined to win this year, spoken into existence by bryce harper
Nationals can play ball for sure. They got A grade stuff all around. Very glad they won. But Hinch pulling Grienke cost them a title. They had the game easily. Facts.
Also, that 2-1 pitch to Soto was a strike. There's a big difference between 3-1 and 2-2. The ump blew it and that's unfortunate because Greinke was pitching a great game and was pulled after that walk to Soto.
IMO if it makes Astros fans feel better that they would have won, if they took Greinke out fine, people forget, the Nationals down 2 runs against the best closer in the game Hader got to him and won the wildcard, down to the Dodgers in elimination game hit Back to Back Home runs against Kershaw, in 8th, to tie, Grand Slam Kendricks to beat them, All world Garrett Cole, had not lost in months , lost game 1, point is stop blaming the manager the Nationals would have gotten to Greinke at some point, Rendon hit a homer off him to cut the lead, they were coming back whoever came in the NATIONALS would have found a way!! Strausberg and Scherzer are 8 and 0 this post season, Scherzer missed his game 5 start, because of injury, he wasn't at his best but he balled!the way theyd had been pitching, who's to say he would have won game 5, Strausberg game 6 and we not talking about game 7 NATIONALS in 6!
Facts, Max Scherzer was an injured pitcher pitching on guts alone and the so called Great Astros lineup with opportunity after opportunity couldn't push over more than 2 runs Against an injured pitcher, if they did this is a non story blame the hitters not Hinch
Thank you Nick for being the only person on TV I saw mention that Houston blew chances to put a crooked number on the board. They cash in during one of those opportunities they probably win
@@dbass9767 My point was everyone is saying it was that 1 pitching decision that cost them when in reality if they got on Scherzer early they run away with Game 7. Blaming the game on 1 pitching decision is very short sighted.
I can also say if Scherzer got his game 5 start Nationals win in 6, he and Strasburg were 8 and 0 no reason to believe, he could have won game 5 if healthy it wouldn't be a game 7
@@dbass9767 that is more speculation. You can't guarantee they win if he pitches even though they typically did, I mean he did leave Game 7 trailing (and lucky it was that close) but you can blame the Astros for not driving men in scoring position in, just the math makes it more likely they win that game. If they're up 5-1 after that HR they probably leave Greinke in there and he probably finishes the 7th and Cole shuts the game down after that. Now I say probably because no way to know for sure.
Cole has never pitched in short rest in his professional career. His manager and team sees him every day. Hinch did not think cole could do it. Not every pitcher is able to pitch on short rest.
