    I've always been curious about something ever since I started looking into Warhammer 40K lore. Is there a fundamental energy within the Warhammer 40K universe that is a sort of polar opposite to Chaos (anti-Chaos per se)?

    • @mrgilgamesh4252
      @mrgilgamesh4252 6 років тому +2

      Long story short, it's more Chaos just used for the other side. Same way the gods of the various races exist in the Immaterium as entities seperate from the big four.
      In the old fluff, there were 'chaos gods of order' but they dropped out of the canon, but you can still find them if you look hard enough. Most of them were later ret-conned into greater demons or failed demon princes, but they're still there.
      (Don't quote me on this, but one of them was Neco something (Necoho maybe?))
      Also, there is the entity known as Malice/Malal, which is basically Chaos against Chaos. Best of the old gods in my opinion. He even has an entire comic dedicated to him, check him out.

      Mr Gilgamesh I checked it out. They have a ton of videos about that and YEAH Malice Malal is a badass. I found out that a lot of people also theorized that the deification of the Emperor of Man created a sort of chaos demon of order. Everytime I think I'm neck-deep in the lore, something like this comes along and shows me that I've only been dipping a toe.😆

    I like the idea of the beastmen of Ind being viewed as living gods or avatars of gods by the native "Inden" humans. It creates a VERY interesting dynamic between them, I'd rather have THIS part of the lore more fleshed out (along with the rest of Ind's fascinating cultures) then well y'know, "end times" and all that. (beating a dead horse..)
    **Tigermen jumps out in front of a passing traveler from behind a bush, terrifying the human**
    Tigerman: Halt! who dares trespass on these "sacred" grounds?!
    Ind rice farmer: OH! Hey, Raksha! It's me, Arjun.
    Raksha: O-Oh...hey, Arjun. Sorry for the scare...thought you were some outsider. Can never be to careful these days y'know?
    Arjun: No no, it was my fault for rushing through here without giving proper notice. Ya see I was just running an errand in a neighboring village and well I must've lost track of time and I wanted to rush on home before it got dark and well...
    Raksha: I get it, Arjun! No worries. Why don't you hurry on now, it can get dangerous in this jungle after dark. **gestures him to move along**
    Arjun: Thanks! I'll be sure to bring proper offerings to your family's temple soon when I have the time! **begins walking down the path once again**
    Raksha: Yes all well and good, take care my friend! **waves by until the human is out of earshot** Aah...what a nice young man... **goes back to hiding behind bush**
    Yeah I know...weird. XD
    note: The whole *'giving proper notice'* thing that the farmer mentioned was something I was imagining like having a number of *shrines being placed along the edges of the jungle were travelers could go and place proper offerings then ring special bells (of the magical sort) that signal the local beastmen tribes that someone is entering their domain. (peacefully ofcourse..)* The beastmen could then watch over these travelers (stalk them) and protect them from some of the more hostile denizens of the jungle. (giant snakes or wandering demons and other weird stuff)

    Logic of the people behind Warhammer Fantasy: "well... we have this huge portion of the world that we really haven't done a whole lot with and not for a awhile now... we could expand upon that, flush it out, make some stories and new characters to populate it with and create whole new factions and merchandise we could sell to fans... but instead let's just destroy the existing world with Sigmarines and continue to Ignore this potential for actually new content."

    • @cmxpiipl
      @cmxpiipl 6 років тому +15

      Yea. I hate when people say that the old world had run it's course or was restricting creativity, that's just bullshit. There could be all manner of races created and easily fit to the world. Gamesworkshop is just driven by greed now a days and wanted to licence everything, so the game went to shit when that greed started to direct their rules. Every army book creeping in power level and making infantry insane in enormous numbers, also creating all sorts of new monstrous cavalries and monsters that are so op compared to the old models (Tomb kings are some of the worst of this). Some people say that the Tomb king update was huge, yet they didn't rewamp the old bulky models of the core sections or ushabti or carrions, but added new crap that was just powerful enough that without it the army would get crushed. Much easier to sell 3 plastic models for 60 euros, rather than 20 little ones for cheaper.
      Creating a balanced game was never their goal apparently, not at least since the 6th edition. While the rule set of 7th was decent, the army books went haywire. While the 8th really broke the balance between the units (so many of which became unusable) which the army books then tried yet failed to correct. Such a shame what happened and this skirmish game just doesn't satisfy the unit based gaming urge some of us still have. People also claim that warhammer rules didn't work well in small points, yet some of the best times I had were on our local shops border patrol tournaments (500 pts) that were held every weekend (ofc that was during 6th/7th, so I didn't get to experience how 8th works in small armies).

    It stuff like this where I think Total War could revitalize the Old World Warhammer.
    Groups like the Norsca, Ind, Nepon & the chaos dwarves all could be set up as their own armies and factions breathing life into the setting and maybe getting GW to take another look at the classic setting.....Because fuck sigmarines.

    • @1Korlash

      Full list: Kingdoms of Ind, Cathay, Araby, Kislev, Chaos Dwarfs, Hobgoblin Khanate, Nippon, Albion, Estalia, Snakemen of Khuresh, Amazons, Norscans, Kurgans, Hung, and even the Vampire Coast since its armies aren't the same as all the other vampire armies.
      Norscans, Chaos Dwarfs, Kislev, Vampire Coast, Estalia, and Tilea have all had units at some point. Halflings would be better as units in the Empire and Tilean/Dogs of War armies rather than their own race, as it fits their lore a lot better.
      Oh, and there's the Fishmen. You know, for whatever that's worth.

    • @1Korlash
      @1Korlash 6 років тому +9

      lekhaclam87 We don’t know. There are scattered, rare mentions of in-universe rumors of an underwater civilization inhabiting a sunken Lizardmen city or attacking ships. That’s it. There’s no confirmation that they actually exist, much less any info about their military or culture. Compared to them, the Snakemen of Khuresh look fleshed out.
      This has led to a running joke among the fan base where people will say “Fishmen!” when asked what race they want to see get an army (the joke being that it’ll never happen). Heck, the term “fishmen” itself is entirely a fan term.
      The closest thing we’ll ever get to Warhammer fishmen is the Trident Realms of Neritica in Kings of War (who are actual merfolk, unlike the aquatic Dark Eldar we got in Age of Sigmar).

  • @1Korlash
    @1Korlash 6 років тому +27

    For those curious, here's Josh Reynold's version of Ind's fate in the End Times, taken straight from his blog:
    "Ind, meanwhile, suffered much as Tilea and Estalia and Araby. Clans Eshin and Clan Volkn destabilized the various princedoms and kingdoms or else slaughtered them, even as the forces of Chaos invaded from the jungles and seas--Arbaal the Undefeated stacked skulls higher than the great stupas as Dechala the Denied One roused the pleasure-cults of southern Ind in mass-revolt. Various champions rose and fell...the flying ship of Wulfrik the Wanderer was seen more than once, as was the great drake, Galrauch. Heroes fought and died, unknown and unremembered, as the vast cities of Ind burned and filled the sky with ashes."
    When someone pointed out that most other nations he gave endings for had some groups surviving until the world ended, he replied:
    "The people of Ind, and their gods, were fighting right up until the last hours. Their access to the sea was cut off, and the only route of retreat was inland, into the jungles and mountains, where they were still fighting the legions of the Blood God when the world ended.
    In a way, Ind actually managed to pull a draw--it wasn't completely overrun, and it was still in the fight when Middenheim blew up."
    This, combined with the awesome fates he gave the other non-army book nations, makes me wish he'd gotten to decide the fates of Bretonnia and the Empire. They still would've died, but it would've been far more epic and less of a one-sided Chaos and Skaven romp.
    Too bad GW intervened and declared everything he said non-canon...

      The idea of a temple that's a large ornate bridge overlooking a divine river where numerous worshippers come to cleanse their bodies in sacred rituals and pay homage to the bridge god by paying a symbolic and sacrificial 'toll' to it is actually a pretty cool idea, atleast I think its an interesting concept. I wonder how a pre-vedic inpired "not-India" land would work coupled with the warp's mechanics? Or even the Hindu concept of all of the literal millions of gods are just facets of Brahma or his avatars, or the avatars of his avatars (yeah it gets weirder than that..), or literally spawned from another god's head whom once got SO anger (because of some annoying blood demon) it created a new death goddess (looking at you Kali!), the divine children of other gods who are also technically still apart of the creator god (some how..) and etc. Yeah I'm not well versed in Hindu religion so I could be totally wrong about how it all works but I would still like to see how a "Hindu-esque" (sorry..) belief system would work in the Warhammer fantasy world!

    As crazy as it might seem, I do have a faint glimmer of hope that we might one day get these places in Warhammer total war. As the upcoming historical total war games fail to turn a similar profit to the Warhammer series, and as Warhammer DLC continues to sell like hotcakes, the temptation to simply keep going and makeing more and more Warhammer content is going to be there. It's still too far in the future to tell, but if trends continue we might see a warhammer far east expansion someday.

      Oh, this is good. Building on the model of Warhammer Quest, but better.
      Start off as the basic model of choice (lost pilgrim, merchant, bodyguard, mercenary, etc) and travel across the continent looking for riches, rewards and, possibly, ruinous powers to smite/unite.
      Plus, it wouldn't limit the idea to humans either:
      Dwarfish young beards searching for new potential stronghold positions or wealth to be mined, ogre mercenaries serving a merchant group as a bodyguard, elves (all stripes) searching for relics of the golden age/wealth/diplomatic opportunities, vampires/necromancers looking for the books of Nagash, wild orcs that have gone full native, lizardmen searching for other possible Old One structures or hunting down those who have stolen their relics, etcetera, etcetera.
      Plus, all of the chances to explore more of the wider warhammer world, going as far as Cathay, Nippon, the dreaded wastes of the South, the Ogre Kingdoms and the easternmost parts of the Chaos Wastes.
      Plus, the possibility of chaos warriors from these various cultures would be amazing. A Slaaneshi fakir or merchant, Tzeentchian viziers and magicians, Khornate blood cultists and mercenary groups, Nurglite 'apothecaries' with a distinctly Ind feel.
      I know aspects of this have been touched on in the early GW canon, specifically in the 'Genevieve' collection, so I would love to see more of that explored.
