My local witchhunter: "Let me in, LET ME IIIIN!"
Daemons trying to enter my mind: "Let me in, LET ME IIIN!"

So you're telling me a guy named Magnus made magic _more_ acceptable to the Empire in Warhammer Fantasy? As if Magnus the Red couldn't embarrass himself any more!
In the words of Yukko from XXX Holic " in multiple worlds you will travel and you will encounter the same people living completely different lives".
He wasn't Spiky Tits.
@@NetMoverSitan He also lacked tomato red skin and and empty space where his eye should be.
He also didn't make deals with Tzeentch and had a sense of restraint.

Friendship is magic. Magic is heresy. Heresy means Exterminatus
Thus, friendship is indeed, HERESY!
The Imperium is a relative kind place for wizards. Okay they are incarcerated or clubbed or burnt but at least nobody drags them into black ships for further use.

I always liked the Colleges of Magic. Which is why when I play a mage in Dragon Age Origins I thought they seemed relatively familiar. Also, Bright College is the best.
to some extent they are similar: both technically gather power from the warp (fade) and use it for spells.
@@unclemiguel4221 Though I'd argue that the Colleges of Magic has more prestige and respect.
I was also a fan of their brief depiction in Blood on the Reich.
Templars did nothing wrong
Don't forget that they also stole the Dwarf Slayers
let's be honest, the empire is a faaaaaaaaaaar gentler master than the dark gods

Warhammer FANTASY lore?! You still make this?! Seriously though Warhammer fantasy is my favorite branch of Warhammer so it's heavily appreciated and enjoyed. Thank you my guy.
He did a pretty good video on Bull Centaurs recently
@@InquisitorJack that was recently? I mean working on them is more akin to blacksmithing and so on, but I thought that was older. Don't know why. Eh. I'm losing my sense of timing.
@@Vundabamazing Well I guess I'm a bit off on my sense of timing too, it was 3 months ago ua-cam.com/video/nw-mFj2kJyk/v-deo.html
I still play Fantasy (not AOS) with friends. It’s not dead (except for the Tomb Kings, RIP).
Yes the wise woman living in the forest...... Absolutely no danger at all....... Until Vee opens a book.
'The individual colleges are for another video' awww... I really would like a video about these, I've recently found I'm very much intruiged by the colleges of magic.
Ah, the Colleges of Magic. In 40k, it'd be straight heresy.
State psykers are a thing. Imperial guard psykers are also a thing. Psykers are more dangerous and less respected tough.
@@EnragedOxygen Yes, but in psyker school they teach you how to be slightly less of a team killer and daemonhost waiting to happen.
@@ornu01 I was confused about your statement that Colleges of Magic would be heresy, they are basically state run organizations close to what's it like in 40k.
@@EnragedOxygen In my personal opinion it is a matter of intent, more than anything else. The Colleges of Magic are centered around understanding and using magic, while the psyker schools, non-heretical ones at least, focus one controlling and minimizing the psyker's connection to the warp, and figuring out how to weaken it's influence.

"not the kind of guy who'd want to take over the empire.. at all basicly!" I like how you described it. And it's true, there really wasn't anyone else to direct the colleges at that time.
Honestly, the more I learn about Warhammer Fantasy lore, the more I realize how much Bioware basically just ripped it off when making Dragon Age.
Parallell reality made up of mind-stuff where magic comes from? Check
Said parallel reality being made up of 'demons' who feed on those emotions? Check
Said demons looking for any excuse to enter actual reality, and will use mages as an easy possession subject? Check
Said mages being greately feared by everyone normal because of both their powers to bend reality, and their inclination to summon demons? Check
Said mages then being locked up by state-sanction colleges/circle of magi so that they can be controlled and regulated? Check
Witch Hunters/Templars with some power to disrupt magic are sent in to kill or wrangle dangerous rogue mages? Check
It just goes on and on. And don't get me started on the Dwarves.

Oppenheimer von Mannhadd was a renowned researcher of warpstone and their explosive properties
He is the only human to have ever truly affected ikit claw and if your wondering yes he does have a poster of the man no I wont say where and no I wont say how I know this
The same people who say it's cruel to imprison mages or put X men style mutants on a register are often the same kind of people that would deny those same wizards or mutants the ability to own a gun. Funny how that works.

I always wondered why wizards in warhammer kept using the same spells, it makes so much more sense now.
I know all about the schools of magic I’ve read the Arcane Compendium. It’s shamanism, druidism, pyromancy, thaumaturgy, witchcraft, Alchemy, Occultism, Cosmology, and evocation.
Could you give a brief description of those, I don't know what they do.

There were special GULAGs for scientists and engineers (who were usually educated in Russian imperial universities before the October coup) called Sharazhka(s). Still worse than their fantasy equivalents.
Among the prisoners was the Head of Soviet space program and the creator of Katyusha rockets Sergei Korolev. During his imprisonment he was repeatedly tortured and during one of these sessions he got his jaw broken.
Aren't winter mages especially appreciated in Kislev? Their ruler is a mage herself I believe, unless I remembered wont.

I would watch the chaos out of that.
The mage in our groups favorite spell was Conflagration of Doom leaving scorch marks all over the country side.
What a perfect drop for the weekend. I have always been intrigued by the political power of the colleges and how much power they wield in the Empire versus how much they are threatened by the inquisitors.
Imperial college scabs, should've gone to Imperial Trade School!
This would make for a much better version of Harry Potter.
The first letter arrives by owl, welcoming the student to the school - which many students have never heard of or applied to attend - and telling them where and when to report for their first day.
The second letter simply reads "This was not a request", and arrives by Roc without warning on the first day of the term.

Pyromancers have the best sense of style in Warhammer Fantasy.
Edit: The mage that decides to be a mule breeder is probably more intellectually suited to that occupation since he appearantly doesn't know that mules are sterile. Or maybe that's the focus of his magical research.
9:06 - We know how he spreads his gifts of love... | What does she do for an encore, warpstone bomb juggling? (!) | 11:10 - That image...who put a shonen anime protagonist in there? I imagine the scene of Hogwarts receiving the visit of 40K Witchhunters.
They'd be Warhammer: Fantasy witch hunters... I think the equivalent in 40K is either an Inquisitor, or an Interrogator. Either way, they'd just kick in the door and start popping people with repeating Hand-crossbows.

Sigmar's blessings and thank you Arch. What a magical way to start off my birthday!
Just revisiting your channel after a long time. You got me hyped for total war Warhammer back in the day and now I'm a huge wh fan boy. Thanks you arch!
I watch this video when I'm feeling down, great work Arch!
That last execution made my skin crawl lmao
A Imperial Wizard is as free as most of the Empire's citizens. You have to remember this is a autocratic feudal society. Wizards have it pretty good for non-nobility.
Funny how the whole magic vs divine miracle thing in Warhammer is so similar to demon souls
Could you talk about the individual colleges and the mages that live in them?
I've been looking for warhammer fantasy lore videos for a while! Keep it up!
I'm guessing the sports wizards are treated the same in the blood bowl timeline.
Could you imagine Arch speaking with fervor and gusto about nuffle for hours upon end?
Oh hell yeah!

Thank you Arch finally some Warhammer fantasy lore video. I am looking forward to more detailed video about respective colleges. :)
Any interest in covering the individual Colleges and Orders of Magic?
Tech Licks =P Nice lore musings as always, Arch!
wizards just take 2 years of training to flatten the chaos curve and suddenly find yourself living in hogwarts
could you summon pieces of the "good" gods. A healer summoning a little demon of Isha or isha's human counterpart?
It's just funny that this fantasy game use some names from real places for example there is an altdorf in my country
Can you do an explanation on the bridge between WH and WH40K? For example, how did the elves/eldar lose their connection with their space fairing brethren? How did Khaos go from meddling in 1 planets affairs to not paying much attention at all until the rise of the Emperor?
The explanation is...all connections between two settings got retconned and they are now two different settings.
I don’t think this is canon but I remember someone said something about the North and South Warp gates being shattered around the same time Slaanesh emerged, basically the shock of her/his appearance was that powerful it shook another universe. Probably not what really happened but it’s cool to think about.
46:50 10%? I would *KILL* to only pay 10% in tax.
According to FB Roleply Ed2 (dont remember which sub book) - summoned daemon will always seek to harm the summoner, no matter how and why he was summoned, or what benefits such summon will bring him. Usually, especialy if daemon was bound in some way - it will not be directly, but daemon will always look for opportunity to cause harm at least indirectly.

The village of Willage has a wise woman? Get the fire ready boys, we're going witch hunting!
The orders are taught how to avoid chaos by using talismans and wands and the like. And they full well are aware where magic comes from. Teclis taught them.
It is under stress and certain stages of Morrslieb that the demonic shit gets out.
It is known, from various books.

Great Video, but no mention of Volans, first supreme patriarch of the colleges and only human wizard I know of that can perceive all 8 winds of magic? For shame
Arch are you going to cover the ice witch's of Kislev?
Guess magic users are more dangerous then he will have psychic powers yeah hey at least you're not mutants
REJOICE! ARCH HAS MADE A NEW FANTASY VIDEO!!!
It would be interesting if you did a video on the great horned rat and its ascendency into the fifth chaos god
I do wish Arch would at least do a video about what he likes/tolerates about AoS.
Didn't you already do this one Arch?
It was focused on magic itself, rather than colleges themselves.

Now the real question is does the imperial Wizard get a cool pocket watch? Also are they on a quest for a red stone to save the God Emperor ?

Excellent as always Arch..... more please :)
Would you like to make a video on your choice and usage of background music ; maybe even make a soundtrack avaiable, of course in exchange for some Shekel , for download one day , that would be very interesting.
Oi!
Where is the mention of Elontir? He was right there, next to Teclis! Chaosbane told me so. :)
Well, they have it pretty good in Araby, some human magic users even established their own kingdoms
High Elves have it better, Saphrey is a while kingdom run by mages.
I'd love it if you did a lore-through on Mordheim. As a game it's well.... its like the tabletop version (aka bullshit), but they really nailed down how fucked that city is/was/got. Frankly I like the lore videos on warhammer better than the 40k stuff, and wish you would add more to the mix.
magician makes mistake or is unlucky they go *boof*. Gotta love Warhammer making everything dangerous to life and limb in the setting
Arch went through a whole video and did not once mock teclis. Interesting.
Good video but would have loved a bit more detail on the characteristics of practitioners from the different colleges, and details on some famous wizards / wizards gone wild (hi @Egrimm)
