I think Slav comes from the word Slovo. In Polish “Slavs” is słowianie, which means “people of the word” or “people who know words”. By contrast Polish word for Germans is “Niemcy” which could’ve came from the word “niemy” which means “someone who doesn’t speak”

What if it came from word 'Slava', meaning glory? There are a lot of slavic names that have originated from the word 'slava', after all - Vladislav/Wladislaw, Dobroslav, Stanislav/Stanislaw, etc.
As you pointed out correctly, Bohemia's original flag was white-and-red. And when Czechoslovakia was created they added the blue triangle to represent Slovakia. But you missed here a fun fact that is worth telling. When the two countries split again in 1993, Czechia could not come back to their original white-and-red flag simply because in the meanwhile it had been stolen by Poland. And Poland's historical flag was actually red-white-red, but that one was in turn stolen by the Austrians.
The first flag of Poland was a white eagle with a red background, the red white red you mention is the flag of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. both Czechia and Poland had used white and red in flags during history, but good thing that Czechia did not abandon the blue triangle as it would make it very confusing having the same flag as its neighbouring country and I do think that it makes the Czechian flag look unique
Poland didn't stolen flag from Bohemia. That colors of flag come from colors of coat of Piast dynasty. Of course, the flag of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was red-white-red, but after the partition, and proclamation dutchy of Warsaw in 1807 white and red flag was adoptet. Czechia adoptet flag after proclamation of indenpendet in 1918. Austra aslo didn't stole Polish flag, becose actual flag of Austria is in use since 1230.
The Polish flag is more years old than the Polish state itself. These were the colors of the princes of the Piast dynasty, who founded the first dynasty of Polish kings - which means that the flag is at least 1100 years old (the Polish state was officially established in 966). Accusing Poles that they stole these colors from the Czechs is some kind of joke? Alternatively, you are some kind of insensitive troll.

In Netherlands he tried to hide that he was the Russian tsar, because it would be bizarre that the ruler of the big country works at docks and helps Netherlands build ships. So yes, Russian future emperor worked as a builder of ships. There is even a small house in Netherlands, wherr Peter the first lived, i believe

The story with the Russian flag is a little more complicated. For the first time, the tricolor flag appeared under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich on the ship "Oryol". Before it was created, the ruler studied the flags of Great Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. As a result, there are several versions of the original flag in the form of variations of tricolors and a banner with a blue cross on a white-red background.
in addition, the colors of the flag were based on the colors of the coat of arms of the capital - Moscow. On it, St. George in white armor, with a huge blue cloak on a white horse, kills a white dragon. And all this is located on a red shield

Lol, we speak Czech, we're definitely a Slavic nation. The fact that we stole the Czechoslovakia flag doesn't mean we're not Slavs. Czech and Slovak are very similar languages. My videos are almost always in Czech but 20% of my viewers are Slovak - they have no problem understanding Czech. Russian is considered the lazy option when kids choose their second foreign language at school because learning another Slavic language is easier for Czechs. I've also read about a third of a novel in Croatian (silly me, didn't bring enough books on the trip), I understood a lot, it felt like reading very weird Slovak.
@@guzelpitt5302 Well, usually in middle school some of us get to choose between what language we want to learn as a second foreign language - either German or Russian. (It differs from school to school obviously - some schools even offer French or other languages but mostly it's a choice between German or Russian, though there are schools that only have German language teachers so some people don't even get to choose and are forced to learn German.) That's why Russian is the "lazy" and "easy" option because it's a Slavic language so obviously it's easier for us to learn than German. But I wouldn't necessarily say Russian is easy for us to learn (Croatian is much easier, I've been told, since the languages are more alike), it's just *easier* than German. And there are many Czechs who speak Russian but they are mostly from older generations as during communism learning Russian was mandatory the same way learning English is today. But yeah, Russian isn't very popular nowadays and I would blame history for that.
@@caro.jiejie if that's the case, would someone from Portugal learn Spanish, French, Italian, or Romanian very easy because they all come from the same family?
@@mattiatf2 Uhm... Well... The thing is I know very little about those languages so I can't really speak on it like I can for my native language. That being said, I think "very easy" is not the correct way to put it. Would it be *easier* than learning an "unrelated" language (like Swedish or German or Polish or Chinese or something)? Yeah, I think so. But yes, generally when you have a native speaker of a language in one language family (in our case Portuguese, a Romance language) learning another language that also belongs in that family (as you mentioned Spanish, French, Italian or Romanian) tends to lean moreso on the easy side of the spectrum for them. The difficulty will vary obv, I would think that for a Portuguese person, Romanian will be more difficult to learn than Spanish, just simply bcs of the distance between the three countries that speak these languages - from which we can assume that the bigger the distance, the bigger the difference in the languages. However, again, I think a Portuguese will pick up even Romanian probably a lot more easily than like... Hindi imho. *I* would put it that way anyway 😂
You forgot to mention that Slovakian "waves" under the cross on the flag are representing the 3 highest peaks of the country just like the slovene flag :) Btw. I don't think the pan-slavic colours are that new, for example traditional costumes called "kroj" in czechia and slovakia are in a lot of times blue, red and white. And I think in other slav countries it is like this too, and these krojs are old as far as 17. century at least.. I just think these colours were not just chosen but were chosen because they get along with the historic symbols and traditions.
@@SonixusRam Because the Hungarian coat of arms has the 3 highest mountains (Tátra, Mátra, Fátra) and the reason Slovakia also has those on its CoA, is because they just adopted the Hungarian coat of arms when they became an independent country in 1993
Yep. Be it East, West or the South. Traditional clothes of slavs (especially the 1700s and 1800s use to be mainly white with either red or blue embroidery. Variations existed, I think Belarusians had green and red which they also use in their flag (the stripe especially is embroidery).

@@jake19035 No, the flag of Bohemia was not red and white (silver) "upside down". The earliest mention by Ottokar aus der Gaal in the 13th century from Die Steirische Reimchronik, describes it as a silver lion on a red backdrop and it is confirmed by depictions of the flag for instance in the Codex Manesse or the work of Jacob Koebel: Wapen. Des heyligen Römischen Reichs Teutscher nation from 1545. The Bicolour red-white banners were later used in battle, but would be hung vertically. The current flag was only codified in the 19th century. There was no inversion.

You are the first one that I saw on Internet mentioning "slovo" ("word") as the root of word "slav". Actually, this is my understanding too. "Sloveni" are the people who can speak understandable words, while "Nemci" (Germans) are the people who are "nemi" ("mute") - who, from Slavic perspective, can't speak understandable words.
Yes. This folk etymology is shared everywhere on the internet. Just look at the other comments under this video. You guys are like bots. But the truth could be somewhere else. The word Slav probably comes from the original Slavic name for Dnieper: Slovǫta. And the word Nemec could come from the name of the Celtic tribe Nemetes, who Romans thought were a Germanic tribe.
10:30 as for etymology it could be also from slavic word ,,fame" for example polish sława or ukrainian slava. When we talk about word slovo, there is one funny connection: Poles call themselves ,,słowianie" which could mean ,,those who know words" but they call germans ,,Niemcy" which could come from ,,those who don't talk/don't know words". It was like, germans don't talk in the human language...
_but they call germans ,,Niemcy" which could come from ,,those who don't talk/don't know words_ - AFAIK "Niemiec" was - at the beginning - a general term meaning "unable to speak" (as in Polish "niemy"), in the sense "unable to communicate", and that term was to meant "a foreigner" - in the same fashion Greeks called "non-Greeks" "barbarians" (i.e. mocking their "bar-bar-bar" incomprehensible "blabber"). Anyway, as Germans were (back then) the only non-Slavic neighbours, that designator became synonymous with German people. But then I never checked the accuracy of this information, therefore (pardon my French) "whoy knows" ;-)
True,Slovani mean they who speak our language.. In Serbia we have" Slava" wich is celebration day of the Saint - defender of family,,every family have one
'Słowo' in Polish meaning 'word' makes good sense with the meaning of the word 'Niemiec' - 'German', which is similar to the word 'niemy' meaning mute. The one you can't speak with contrary to other Slavs you could easily communicate with a thousand years ago.
on serbian Nemac ( nijem, nem, mutav ) means mute, silent. on serbian Grman is referred to 1) bush, and 2) thunder. grmani - thunderers, those who thunder, and bush as of military tactikc from 1000+ years ago.
There is a misuderstanding of the origin of Slovene national flag. It was acctually the firs slavic flag using the combination of white (top), blue (middle) and red (bottom). The flag originates from the coat of the arms of the Land of Carniola. The Book of Coats of Arms from 1370 describes that the coat of arms of the Land of Carniola is a heraldic blue eagle (in takeoff) on a white (heraldically silver) background, with a right-facing head (according to heraldic standards), which has a white-red painted and downward-facing crescent on its chest . In 1463, Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II. he allowed the Carniolan provincial estates (the Carniolan army saved his empire and also his life in the battle) to use yellow (gold) in their coat of arms instead of white (silver), and place a golden imperial crown on the eagle's head. In his numerous writings, heraldry researcher Dr. Šavli states that the regional coat of arms was created even before the elevation of Carniola to a duchy in 1364, according to some sources, the years 1156 and 1161 are mentioned. The nowadays Russian flag was first used as an ensign for Russian merchant ships in 1696 It remained as a merchands flag in use until 1858, when the first official flag of the Russian Empire was decreed by Alexander II, which was a tricolour consisting of three horizontal fields: black on the top, yellow in the middle, and white on the bottom. A decree in 1896 reinstated the white, blue, and red tricolour as the official flag of the Russian Empire until 1917. So Slovenian flag is with over 500 years older origins and the colour similar to Dutch flag and later to Russian flag is just a coincidence. The modern Russian flag as the national flag was declared in 1993 as the Slovenian flag was in 1945 as the flag of the Republic of Slovenia part of the Yugoslav federation. The Slovenian national flag was adopted by the Slovenian Assembly on June 24, 1991, when it adopted an amendment to the 1974 constitution, replacing the old flag shortly before Slovenia gained independence. So no "copy-pasting", but opposite ;)
Šavli is also known for disproven theories like the supposed real ancestors of Slovenes being the Veneti and not the slavic people. While it is true that our German speaking neighbours and former fellow countrymen have called us Windisch, this comes from the slavic tribe the Wends, not to be confused with the latin tribe Veneti, who lived around Venice. But as likely as it is that our slavic ancestors have intermingled with the germanic tribes, it is also they likely they did the same with the latin ones. So maybe there is some truth after all. It is true tho, that the color combination of white, blue and red, has been used in the heraldry of the Duchy of Carniola since the 13th century, before it even became a duchy. But it was not untill 1848, that the tricolor was used in a modern horizontal lines fashion, that is also seen today in our flag. 1848 was also the year of the Prague Slavic Congress, which our deputies attended. I don't think it matters who was first, and the colors aren't really exclusive to slavic countries. France, Netherlands, USA, etc. have the same colors. We are all copying each other.
The colored bands from the outside look like a little bit of industrial design or branding but as you showed us, have deeper meaning (sometimes). The blue is in the middle of the Russian flag because it symbolizes the monarchy or state and the others are land and the people. On the French tricolor, the white is the monarchy. Most of these countries, even if they are republics today were once monarchies.
Netherlands is the only one that went from Republic to Monarchy instead of the other way around. Red/Vermiljoen = Burghers = ? White = Clergy = pure/virginity Blue = Nobility = blue blood of nobels

Poland and (old) Bohemia flags derive from their medieval coats-of-arms, white eagle/lion on red (~12-13th century). they precede any "Pan-Slavic ideas" by ~600 years. Poland / Bohemian flags simply follow an old European heraldic pattern: the flag colors derive from the charge & shield of the medieval coat-of-arms. The coat-of-arms, in turn, is usually the crest of a ruling dynasty, or a major city. It's a very common heraldic pattern in Europe: Austria (from the crest of Babenbergs), Luxemburg (Luxemburg/Limburg), Bavaria (Wittelsbach), Tirol (Albert of Tirol), Monaco, San Marino (from city crests) etc. Many of these flags use some combinations of white and red or blue, simply because these colors are very common in heraldry.
The Bulgarian flag represents the following: White - freedom of the spirit Green - The gorgeous mountains and forests Red - All the blood our ancestors spilled for our freedom Of course, this is the current interpretation, there is no evidence that this was the intention when the flag was designed. After all pan Slavic ideas weren't very popular in Bulgaria in that time because the aim was a creation of one big Slavic country governed by Serbia under the huge influence of Russia. Our revolutionaries didn't agree...
Rather, you had wars with Serbia over who would unite the Slavs and no one wanted to stand under the banner of another. It was the same with Russia and Poland.
Are you aware of the influence of medieval livery colours on the modern horizontal tricolour? The common practice is to put the colour of the charge as a stripe above the colour of the field on the banner. Eg Germany (Black eagle, with red claws, on a gold field), Poland (White eagle on a red field), Slovakia (White cross on a blue and red field). No doubt there are exceptions though!
In fact, Russian naval white-blue-white tricolor was first raised on the ship Oryol in 1667, during the reign of czar Alexei Mikhailovich, when Peter the Great wasn't even born
@@metalvideos1961 tricolor has never been a state flag of Russia till the idiotic eltsin came to power. Those colors are not related to Russia, but only to trading ships.

Slovenia and Slovakia have exact same meaning in origin. Its just different conjugation / word change. Example "rěka" - "river, "rěčka" -"small river", "rěkica" -"small river", "rěčica" - "small river"... It just depends where you are from and what dialect you speak.

Fun fact for you: In Slovakia, we call our country in our native language Slovensko, our women Slovenky, our language Slovensky jazyk. Slovaks and Slovenes were once one and the same nation, but we were divided by magyars/todays hungarians and we went separate ways.
That is true, the Svatopluk kingdom had today's Slovakia and Slovenia and also today's northern Croatia. Croats in early medieval Croatia (today's Dalmatia) did not like Svatopluk all that much.
@pavolp.6527 well, today not so much outside the historian circles, but back then he was well known to rulers of Croat princedom same as Bulgars and Byzanthians were. Referring to previous video about the names of USA states, and territories: There is a current move to separate a large part of Oregon, and conjoin it to Idaho. So far, both Oregon and Idaho are in agreement. However, it will take an act of Congress to finalize. For decades Californians have had efforts to divide the state into North California, and South California. Although, there are many enthusiasts, it never amounts to a real possibility. When West Virginia won its battle to become a separate state, due to taxation, and division of financial resources it also became one of the poorest states in the Union….a cautionary tale, that causes sound- minded people to pause.

The tricolour flag of Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia is basically Czech tricolour that was created by adding blue stripe under original bicolour. Possible explanation could be that those three colours are found on coat of arms of Bohemia and Moravia. Bohemian bicolour is derived from it's coat of arm. White/silver lion, and red background. Moravian coat of arm cosists od red-silver eagle and blue background. Those two combined could easily form WRB tricolour thus there was no need for any change. As well the current flag was result of contest held early after WWI and many of suggestions were not even using all Slavic colours, many had represented parts of Czechoslovakia by stars and so on. There was even proposal inspired by flag of Texas and few by old flag of Ireland or Alabama, but with added stars. There were as well some proposals that had used black colour (reference to the Hussite movement). So the current flag is more likely result of happy coincidence.
We don't talk about Protectorate here, imagine western countries collectively deciding to cut part of Ukraine and giving it too Russia to keep their mouth shout.
Bosnia had many flags during the war (each ethnicity had one), and when the peace broke out, everyone wanted that their flag be the one to represent whole country. That (of course) was impossible, and even some well design proposals were discarted with (i shit you not) objection like "why is MY colour at the bottom" or "why is THEIR crest on the right", "Naturally" high representative for BiH had to step in and chose flag submitted by Mladen Kolobarić, making it probably only flag in Europe that is simultaneosly represent country AND don't represent people.

Also there is one thing that can be interesting for anyone reading the comments in here. According to the religion and mythology of old Slavs (pre Christian time when we all were pagan people who spoke the same language and believed in the same gods) colors on the Slav flags are chosen based on the gods of that time. I will take Russian for example: 1. White color - the highest one representing the supreme god Svarog who ruled the world and everything in the world, 2. Blue color - representing the god Perun the thunder maker who had the highest force in the world and, 3. Red color - representing the red bearded god Vid who was our progenitor. Svarog had the son named Dažbog or Dabog, Dajbog (god of the Sun, Rain and Fire) whom Serbian people for example took as their highest or supreme deity. Name Dažbog or Dabog, Dajbog means (daž-bog, da-bog, daj-bog) "daž, da, daj = gives", "bog = god" so it is the god who gives. He gives the life on earth since he gives the sunlight as god of the sun. And old Slavs because of the great respect to those appearances they believed in the cult of sun, rain and fire since their entire survival was depending on them. Also it is believed that Dažbog or Dabog, Dajbog was the ancestor of the Russian people and all Slavs in general. Serbian people today have the flag that goes from the top: red, blue and white (inverted Russian flag) which means red bearded god Vid is on the top. And even today Serbian people also Bulgarian too are celebrating the day of Vidovdan (day of the god Vid celebrated every year at 28th of June). Also very important battle in Serbian history took place at the day of Vidovdan (28th June 1389) at Kosovo in place Gazimestan where Serbian warriors were in huge battle with Ottoman empire who wanted to conquer the historical Serbian land. At Gazimestan it is growing one endemic kind of flower - red peony. And it is believed it started growing red because of the spilled blood in the soil of Serbian warriors after the battle of Kosovo. So yet again red color from the red peony and read bearded god Vid can be connected together in this event happened at Vidovdan and why red color it is on the flag. Religion and mythology of old Slavs is really a fascinating and great one. They could be read as bedtime stories to children  Once Slavs or better said old Slavs were ONE people occupying huge territory and "modern" ages invented nations accompanied with greed and hunger for the power and started dividing once unified people into multiple nations. All in all Slavs no matter where, are the great people and personally I am beyond proud by being a Slav.

Because "pan-Slavic" colours is bullshit. russia, for instance, adopted its flag from the flag of czar Peter the First, who, in turn, took his design fro the Dutch flag without adding any meaning to his flag. He just liked the colours. Blue, white and red are the most popular colours used in flags around the world. Does it make the blue, white and red horizontal stripes pan-Slavic if we consider the fact that combinations of those stripes are used all over the globe? I don't see any logic to accept it as a pan-Slavic symbol. Moreover, there are nations like Bosniaks, Bulgarians, Macedonians and Ukrainians who historically use other colours. I am a Ukrainian myself and I don't have any relationship feelings towards the b-w-r tricolour.
Poland do have Pan-Slavic minus blue color,Belarus to would have similar flag if not for lukashenko(white-red-white),Ukraine one represents sky and wheat fields(I think, correct me if I'm wrong),BnH had to have "neutral" flag so 3 sides would stop canceling each others life subscriptions,in video it's described why Montenegro has a flag the way it is while North Macedonia believe it self to be ancient Macedon so they chose flag as it is. And Baltic states aren't Slavic

I was always puzzled by the origins of the Counts of Celje. Were they Germans, Hungarians or Slavs? I know just little about captain general and de facto regent of Hungary, ban and feudal lord Count of Celje Urlic to whom our Serbian princess Katarina Branković was married, she is remembered for writing one of our important books the Varaždin Apostol / Varadžinski apostol (1454) - a hand-written Orthodox liturgical book.
@@amarillorose7810 They were originaly minor nobles called Žovneški by their castle Žovnek, they inherited Celje and became Celjski. "oldest inhabitants of Europe" Aboslutely not. Ignoring the fact that Neanderthals were in Europe before modern Humans, language isolates like Etruscans, Basques, Albanians all predate even Indo-Europeans. And Slavs came to Europe only after people like Myceneans, Hallstatts were living there for millenia. Also Slavs are not one nation.
The whole "Slav" thing isn't really controversial and is pretty established. As is one of the suggestions, it means "People of the word". While the word itself can be debated, the broader context of these languages and how other words are used makes it pretty clear. The Slavic word for Germans for example is some form of "Neimetz", which translates to roughly "people that don't speak". English word for Slave does indeed come from "Slav" (Not the other way around as the video suggests at one point). This was the result of the Slavic slave trade which is about as studied as unicorns, but in recent decades academics started to seriously look into it as a massive catalyst for the Atlantic Slave trade and foundation of Western European economy.
There is also Kashubians, a separate ethnic and linguistic group of West Slavs in Poland. They use a yellow and black flag. Polish red and white has nothing to do with the panslavic, cause it's a separate origin: from the red and white coat of arms (white eagle on the red background)
On the first Russian tricolor flag of the Russian Kingdom, on the tricolor flag of the Tsar of Moscow, there was also a two-headed eagle holding the Power and the Scepter, and in the center of the eagle the coat of arms of George the Victorious, in fact, the current Russian flag is indeed the historically true flag of the Russian people
Moscovites (such was name of russians, than velykoroses ) and only in 1930 stalin rename it ruskies. Two headed eagle was stolen from mongol empire and Byzantine. So russians never create something new, they always stole everything from others.
It's a shame that Bosnia didn't use these colours. I would understand if they kept the flag we used after the Yugoslav war (inspired by the kingdom of Bosnia) but our modern flag is just made to look similar to EU ignoring our slavic heritage and heritage in general.

Well, you actually wrong about Russian flag. And the article in Wikipedia in English is not correct at all about it. It has one-sided not historical western opinion which says "it's because they used as an example a Dutch flag". NOPE. Russian national flag was white, blue and red already in 1693. It called The flag of Moscowian Tsar. It actually used to use before Peter the Great was even born. But it had a two-headed golden eagle with 3 crownes above. Later it was used oftenly too, but starting from 18 century the main flag was black-yellow-white flag of the Russian Empire(flag of the whole empire, not national). And the national flag was still white-blue and red. Also the meanings of the colours came from the title of the tsars : white is Belarus (White Russia), blue is Ukraine (Little Russia) and red is Great Russia. Also meanings by colours are: white is purity and perfection, blue is faith and loyalty, red is power and passion.
The colors on the Slovene flag are not exactly the same as the Russian one. Close, but different. The blue bar on the Slovene flag is a slightly lighter shade and the banner itself is slightly narrower top to bottom.

The biggest start of it is I thing the Czech National Revival, it started because of the Industrial Revolution, people in Czech lands spoke Czech only in some villages and most people spoke German in bigger cities, but when people started moving from to Prague etc. they wanted to speak Czech again
It all happened in the same time because until end of 18.century, there was no nationalism, so yeah nationalism is the reason it all happened so suddenly, its like inventing a wheel lets say. Historians still dont know who why "nationalism" happened all so sudden and for what reason
What if.... just what if... these colors were chosen on that congress precisely because most participating nations already used those colors for centuries and thus it would be unnatural to their populations to use different ones and it had nothing to do with Russians whom used black yellow and white at that time while white, blue and red was still rather obscure merchant flag used exclusively on ships. And given that the French flag was already in use since the revolution and this congress was rather revolutionary, they had another reason to use these colors. Just what if......

I think you are wrong. There are vexicological rules. The oldest symbol of the country was the coat of arms of the royal family. The colors of this coat of arms are the colors of the country. The Czech traditional flag is derived from a white (silver) lion on a red background. Therefore, Bohemia (Czechia) had the same color as Poland (Silver eagle on a red background). The Czechoslovak flag was created by adding a blue wedge. Why blue? Because the traditional Slovak coat of arms is a white cross standing on blue hills and a red background. Blue is therefore a color that the Bohemia did not have in its coat of arms, but Slovakia did and that is why blue was added. After the independence of the Czech Republic, this state kept its flag from tradition (and Slovakia made its own flag). But the Czech Republic consists of the historical countries of Bohemia and Moravia, and Moravia has a red and white eagle on a blue background as its coat of arms. So that makes sense too. The resemblance to the colors of the Russian flag is purely coincidental. Blue, red and white are, for example, the colors of France and the USA.
Except the list of Slavic countries without panslavic colours is longer: Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Macedonia, Belarus And arguably Romania, Moldova and Albania.

1848 was generally an insanely chaotic year in most of Europe. It was filled with rebellions, many of which were nationalist revolts. It's no coincidence that the Pan-Slavic tricolor was adopted so widely in that year.
But these 3 colors were not adopted by countries with a long and rich history of statehood, which had their own old state flags, such as Poland (whose flag comes from the colors of the Piast dynasty, which founded the Polish state in the mid-10th century). This flag (white and red) was the flag of the Kingdom of Poland from the 10th century, and also gave colors to the flag of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (the real union of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which lasted about 300 years, until the end of the 18th century). In 1848, the Polish flag was one of the oldest nationa/statel flags in Europe (and still is). Although in 1848 Poland had been occupied by Russia, Prussia and Austria for about 50 years, there was a Polish Kingdom to some extent independent of Russia (however, in a personal union with Russia due to the tsar). This kingdom obviously used the traditional Polish flag (red and white)

Flag of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwelth wasn’t stolen by Austria. Austrian flag is the second oldest flag in Europe

So Russian is easy language for Czechs? I ve never heard Chech speaking Russian and thought that Russian is not that popular

Dont forget the word "slava"
В русской немцы я думаю, означает немые к Солнцу, а славяне наоборот близкие к солнцу

'Słowo' in Polish meaning 'word' makes good sense with the meaning of the word 'Niemiec' - 'German', which is similar to the word 'niemy' meaning mute. The one you can't speak with contrary to other Slavs you could easily communicate with a thousand years ago.

Yes, Slovenian flag predates all pan Slavic flags today.
@@JaPakaj Jurij Venelin, Moscow 1830 Ancient and today's Slovenes. Read and wonder.
The colored bands from the outside look like a little bit of industrial design or branding but as you showed us, have deeper meaning (sometimes).
The Bulgarian flag represents the following:
White - freedom of the spirit
Green - The gorgeous mountains and forests
Red - All the blood our ancestors spilled for our freedom
Of course, this is the current interpretation, there is no evidence that this was the intention when the flag was designed.
Greetings to all Slavs

Very accurate information! About the green on the Bulgarian flag - the national mythology says this is the color of the woods and the mountains, one of the national symbols. But my personal explanation is the color of the flags in our National liberation movement - they are all green.

@@leoprg5330 What does quite probable explanation of already mentioned protectorate flag to do with current situation in Ukraine?
Bosnia had many flags during the war (each ethnicity had one), and when the peace broke out, everyone wanted that their flag be the one to represent whole country. That (of course) was impossible, and even some well design proposals were discarted with (i shit you not) objection like "why is MY colour at the bottom" or "why is THEIR crest on the right",

Also there is one thing that can be interesting for anyone reading the comments in here. According to the religion and mythology of old Slavs (pre Christian time when we all were pagan people who spoke the same language and believed in the same gods) colors on the Slav flags are chosen based on the gods of that time. I will take Russian for example:
1. White color - the highest one representing the supreme god Svarog who ruled the world and everything in the world,
2. Blue color - representing the god Perun the thunder maker who had the highest force in the world and,

Could you explain why the flags of the baltics, Belarus, ukraine and Poland have such diffrent flags to the rest?
Well I it would undermine the point.

Здравствуйте, объясните пожалуйста, что Вы имеет в виду, когда говорите: "Славянская работорговля" (Slavic slave) ?
There is also Kashubians, a separate ethnic and linguistic group of West Slavs in Poland. They use a yellow and black flag. Polish red and white has nothing to do with the panslavic, cause it's a separate origin: from the red and white coat of arms (white eagle on the red background)
Not all flags of Slavic countries use the so called ”panslavic” colours. So the whole talk on this subject makes no sense.

The American flag was a copy of the flag of the British East India company. Complete with the 13 red/white stripes representing the 13 English (later British) colonies & keeping the red/white & blue of the British Union flag.
Congrats.! Great video

Except the list of Slavic countries without panslavic colours is longer:
Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Macedonia, Belarus
And arguably Romania, Moldova and Albania.
