  • Wild day on the Trinity Floodway as record rainfall sweeps through Dallas-Fort Worth. A deluge of 6-9 inches of rain fell across North Texas in 24 hours.
All that runoff gushing into the Trinity River pushed levels in the West Fork almost 7-feet above normal. The swift flows swallowed up low water dams. And carried tons of trash and debris downstream. This is a video of what we saw Monday, August 22.
August 21-22 was the second wettest 24-hour period in DFW history. And this is the wettest August we've seen since record keeping began in 1899.
Tarrant Regional Water District maintains the 27-mile Trinity River Floodway that runs through Fort Worth. Water tends to flow over the low water dams for several days after rains like this. They can get quite slippery over time. So, please don't try to cross them if they're still covered by the water.

Is there a place to put a water wheel trash collector anywhere, or passive collectors to capture trash before it gets further downstream

We are working with the City of Fort Worth to add a water wheel to the Clear Fork and West Fork of the Trinity River. Potential locations have been identified. And Fort Worth is in the process of raising the funds to purchase the Waterwheels. More info here: www.fortworthtexas.gov/departments/code-compliance/initiatives/waterwheel
