As a non native English speaker you speak so clearly and well. Great for near the road use, not for a single person hiker over long distances, carried on ones back, especially in winter when you have to take more weight anyway. Now knowing that it clearly is a great tent and has its place. For me the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 doubled poled in some winter conditions, is the best option (with sacrifices in space).
Hi Mr Nobodies, I hope I did not say it is a great tent for one person hiking longer distances.... It's a two person tent and yes, if you are only one you get more space but you'l need to carry the weight. I would not since I am small but a friend that is 204 cm and 110 kg and very fit and strong... he doesn't mind: he needs the space. It's sometimes also a matter perspective. Hey, which tent would you advise me why exactly when I tell you that I like camping all year round. Less in winter but can happen. On foot and by e-bike. I want a stable and comfortable tent that can withstand a lot. I camp in campsites and very often wild. The tent should have a sturdy floor. I want also good cooking inside the tent. My preferred candidates would be the Abisco Dome 2 and the Northern lite 2. Is there one that you could recommend for good reasons? Greetings from Munich.
Hi Jello, I am sorry for my bit late response but I was on holiday and took my time. Thanks for the question. I would go for the Abisko Dome 2 or the Hilleberg Allak 2. Thanks for the great review. I just found one on eBay for $600 US and pulled the trigger thanks to your solid “tour”. I plan to do some extended winter camping, so I needed certain features, and for &600 the Abisko 2 checked all boxes. Happy camping!
I used the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 in summer and winter and believe me you just cannot go wrong with this tent. If you are going to be out in some extreme wind and rain, then may I suggest to double pole (you can purchase an extra pole set separately) and footprint (when attached first time like the inner you can keep it attached when packed back up). Even though some say it is good to go from the start go, I would also suggest seam sealing on a good day. Just to be extra cautious.
Heheh! You made me laugh at the beginning. You were so energetic and full of beans (as we say here in the UK) and it was so funny and entertaining! I really enjoyed your review!! It was fantastic!! Very thorough and detailed!! I liked how you explained things, I only - if I can say the tiniest of criticism - you could have brought the camera over closer when you were talking about those vents and the pockets, to show them clearer and also pan around in the space! To give a more full view of how the space looks like on the inside. But other than that it was a fantastic review, seriously!! And what an AMAZING view in the background when you finished in the conclusion!! 10/10 stars for everything!!
Wow, that is a comment 😊! Full of beans... I will remember that one. Details... yeah... batteries... In those days I only had two. Now I have 7 and a GoalZero. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Thanks for your great review! Always useful! Which one do you prefer the Hilleberg Allak 3 or Abisko dome 3? I have a hard time choosing between both as they are very similar. Cheers!!
Hi Mariana, Most asked question ;-) Did you search the comments below? I have some answers on this topic. But...what are you looking for? 4-season camping in harsh conditions or more summer.... I need a little bit more input ;-). Get back to me and we'll get to a good answer. Cheers, Gijs
I wish these tents had a little canopy one could attach, where the cap is fitted there are attachment points where the narrow part of a wedge shaped canopy could be fitted and the wider end could be supported with trekking poles, this would keep light rain/snow from from going into the vestibule.
Great review buddy! Best I’ve seen! Would you recommend the dome for 3 season use with my dog, we are going out to live in the wilderness so needs to be sturdy yet not to heavy to be carrying every day I find the Allak struggles with condensation, so packing up a wet tent everyday won’t be ideal, also looking at the Abisko lite shape 2 along with the dome 2 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Welsh Nomad, Thank you for the compliments! Live or camp? Big question before I answer ;-). I need a bit more info: how long? What kind of dog? Where? Let me shatter one dream: most tents suffer from condensation (but I think you know that) 😉. Cheers, Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews will be living out of it for the Foreseeable future, my dogs a bedlington terrier, so your average size dog really, so doesn’t take up to much room! Not sure whether to go for another dome shape or go for something like the abisko endurance 🤔 Haha I’m all too familiar with condensation, I own 2 Hillebergs😉🤣
Hi Chris, I like both but it a matter of budget and weight. Budget... I don't know 😋 and weight... I ride a motorbike and don't think it is an issue. What you should be aware of is the strings - tripwires - underneath the FR. What periode are you planning to use the tent? Maybe I have a even better suggestion.... Cheers, Gijs
I don’t think you can beat the fabric quality from Hilleberg. Take them both out in heavy weather and see what you end up with. I also much prefer the pole clip system on Hilleberg’s Allak and Staika. Love Fjallraven pants, but I prefer the tried and true Hilleberg tents. Great, thorough and informative review. Thank you for a job well done.
Two doors is also handy if the only good spot you can find is next to a tree that blocks one of the doors :) I'm about to buy me one of these, I don't think I need the extra strength (and extra price and extra weight) offered by the Keb Dome 2 and from what I've concluded, I think the fjällräven dome is in several ways better than the hilleberg staika which has very similar features.
Thanks Gijs. This is the best review I can find online. Great work. I was wondering where the extra loops on the inner tent connectors are for. I have a abisko dome 3. I totally love it but can't find the purpose for the loops. Do you have any idea? Thaks again!
Hi, can I ask a question. I am looking at the dome 2, I already own a abisko lite 2. But I am also looking at the Hilleberg Allak 2, since you have reviewed both, and both are similar in spec etc, which would you suggest?
Dear David, Sure you can ask a question ;-). Depending on what Dome from Fjall you are looking and what you want dor do with the tent? Summer camping, winter? Lightweight or is weight not a problem? The Abisko Dome 2 or the Keb Dome 2.... I know I did not review the last one bit it is very similar to the 3. Let me know what you want do with the tent and I'll get back to you. I am traveling at the moment so there might be some delay in the answer. Cheers, Gijs
Just saw this! Hilleberg and FJ are the two best. The Allak 2 is great, but I don't like the vestibule size; I bought the Staika instead for the space. The Allak 3 has much more room. :) The Allak has GREAT ventilation. What did you end up getting?
Hi great review on a tent I'm considering on buying for me and the wife but one thing I'd really like to know is , is it really a 2 person tent? I've bought 3 tents in the past claiming to be but not in the real world more like a comfy 1 person tent, so please all honest replys would be much appropriated before I purchase. Many thanks for the review such a honest guy.
Dear Wints66, Well... I am small and with my wife - small to - the innerspace of 130 x 220 is fine and I think for taller people this is a two person tent and not a 1.5. The 100 cm height works well too. But it is still a lightweight backpacking tent. The 3 is bigger and depending on how you use it that might me a consideration. Does this help? Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thanks for the reply Gijs , We will be using on campsites that are has close to wild camping as you can get but also going to be using it to go wild camping so I'm trying to keep the footprint size of the tent down as wild camp pitches as you'll know are often small areas, I'm about 155cm and 70 kg my wife smaller and lighter so where not that big, I was looking at the 3 person version but didn't know if it was going to be harder find pitches with it being a bit larger, there is no where local selling this tent for me to see it so I'm having to buy blind lol. Thanks for your help and advice it is most appreciated.
viktorstorelv Viktor, yes. 130 cm is in my notes and I measure this always myself. So... should work😄 But... why not the Keb 3...177 cm wide...Cheers Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews because i Will mostly use it for solo trips, but also bringing my son or a friend now and then. But the 3man version is also maaaaybe an option. But not the keb, abisko is enough for my use!:)
Hi Mikkel, When the tent is pitched it is not really a problem. Just use two hook shaped pegs to pin it to the ground. It's more annoying during packing and pitching: needs to be done careful. I hope this answers your question. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Outdoorguru Thanks! In terms of ruggedness and stability, how would you rate it against Hilleberg Tarra - a great tent from a company that I really dislike (bullies).
Nice video again... How would you compare FJ tents vs Hillieberg? I know Hillies are the best, but you think FJ is closely comparable? Thoughts? I have experience with Hillies, but have never owned a FJ tent. Thanks! :)
Hi TTD, A lot of people think Hillebergs are the best. That is debatable. Yes, they are super if you can afford them and for other people other tents are the best. This just as a general remark. Hilleberg and FJ are close/ similar with different characteristics and solutions to problems. FJ is mostly a little bit cheaper for almost the same product. But there are other manufacturers that do great lightweight tents like Exped, Nigor, Nordisk and Helsport. Is this helpful? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Ya, I've tried most of them and I still think Hillieberg is the best. I want to try one of the FJ tents. I'm a big fan of FJ. :)
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I have a Staika which is bombproof; I think it could be overkill for Northern Sweden/Finland in the Summer/Fall, so am thinking of trying an FJ tent, which is a bit lighter, like the Abisko Dome 3 or Abisko Endurance 3.
Hi Tony, It is green. Take a peek at the article I write on the tent. I think you will see that is a very thin line between green and brown but it works very well in the forest. outdoorguru.com/outdoorgear-en/tents/fjallraven-abisko-dome-2-review-2/ I hope this helps. Hi Gijs, thanks for all your hard work. Thoughts on abisko vs Keb for Scottish winters with 60-80km winds? Trying to convince myself the Abisko would suffice as I like the weight of 3kg much more that the Keb’s 4kg.
Hi Doc, I get this question quite a lot on the more higher end robust series of Fjallraven and Hilleberg. Although I wish I had a 100% bulletproof answer, I don't have it. Most of the time I pick the lighter weight and when circumstances get a bit tuff I take for granted that the tent might underperform a bit. Mainly because I ask myself the question: How many days of camping am I really in conditions that shitty and how treating are they? Also... can I do with a bad night? Most of the time it is pretty limited and I can do with a bad night. Maybe this helps you too. But if you go out in bad Scottish weather for a week - I have had my portion - and actually like this, then the extra weight (and higher price) will be worth it. Does this help? Otherwise, give me a call ;-). Number on the website. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I understand completely. It is always a bit of a trade-off between weight and function. I've take a punt on the Abisko dome as I currently use a Nammatj 3GT as my tent. I will always be able to bring the Nammatj if the weather is particularly rough but at 5kg (with footprint) it's a serious haul! We are usually only on the mountain for a day or two anyway and are often able to bail early if needed. Thanks again for your advice, I will see how the Abisko performs on the summit this weekend!
@@eorenn Hi Adam, I ended up returning my Abisko in favour of a Hilleberg Allak 2 (BUT....this was purchased from a good friend at nearly half the price of RRP).
Dear Syahrul, Not at the moment since I don't have the tents anymore: I send them back to Hilleberg and FR. But it is a many asked request so I'll have to consider this ;-). Cheers, Gijs
Hi James, I would buy both.... the Allak for lightweight 3 season, the Abisko for the winter. They are not totally comparable: 2p versus 3p and price.... €400 difference.... What are you going to do with the tent? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I'd love to be able to buy both! I want a spacious 2p for all year use (mostly 3season but winter capable). I've had hilleberg and fjallraven in the past and tend to prefer hilleberg build quality (both are great though)
Dear Mir Nejib Rahman, depending on what you want to use it for and the money you have....Dome for 4-season for sure and I like a double entrance. But the Lite is less complicated and cheaper and fine for 3 seasons. Does this help? Cheers, Gijs
Hi Gjs, love the review.. thoughts: Do you think the Abisko Dome 2 is big enough for two for Northern Sweden conditions? I have a Hillieberg Staika, but I want to try a few FJ tents. Have been looking at Keb Dome 2, Abisko Lite 3, and Abisko Dome 2/3. Do you have more thoughts on the FJ tents? I know the Keb is stronger, but heavier and it seems that the Abisko 2 would do just fine in heavy Sweden winds/rain. 😬
Hi TTD, Thanks for the compliments! Good question. It's all depending on how big you two are and what kind of outdoor people you are. My wife and I are 170 cm and about 63 kg so we are small people and we carry not too much. I have been in Lapland with similar sized tents in wintertime with back and that was no problem spacewise. If you travel with a pulka a size up would be better. Keb versus Abisko…. Keb is stronger designed and I didn’t have any issues with the Abisko. But… I am Dutch, I am out in nature in harsh conditions not that often so the Abisko will last me a long time. If you live up North - you are, aren’t you? - and are able to carry the heavier load (3160/4250), I would go for the Keb. I am doing a long term review on the Keb Endurance 3 at the moment and the thicker fabric pays off when the wind picks up. Does this help? Call me if you need more feedback. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thanks Gijs! Ya, My Staika is BOMBPROOF; but I was thinking of getting the Abisko because of the weight savings. I live in Bend, OR when in the states and Annika lives in Finland. But as you know I base out of Singapore, Sweden, Finland, and a few other places per year (not during covid though). It's mainly for our Thru-Hike next summer in Northern Sweden. 130cm will fit two full-size sleeping pads, so that's good for us. I didn't get the Keb, bc it's similar to the Staika. The Abisko Dome 2 has considerable weight savings and still quite durable and weather tested yes? I have the Abisko view, but I am currently testing it in bad weather; a review coming soon! I love that text! The Keb Endurance is amazing, very similar to the Nammagt; super tent! However, I prefer free-standing when possible. With that said, I just bought the Abisko Lite 3 LOL. Hello and thank you for this really good video. I've been looking for a review of this tent model since ages. I have a question : Do you recommend using a footprint layer under the tent. I live in Finland and I oftenly have problems of humidity and wet ground. Is it fine with the Abisko itself ? Thanks again.
I don't think wetness and humidity are a problem for the floor, the groundsheet is more for protection against abrasion and punctures, which are probably not a big problem in winter time when there is snow.
Yeah the bathtub is actually really strong against water according to the specks!! 6000 mm hidrostatic! So it is MORE than enough to keep any water at bay!
A benefit with the footprint is that it reduces the condensation inside the tent as well (on wet ground). And you also get a floor in the vestibule that keeps your stuff clean and dry. But the drawback is the extra weight of course. Anyway, I always bring my footprint with me (having an Abisko Endurance myself), it is worth it.
Hi Martin, I like the Orion. I reviewed it in the past for an outdoor magazine. What I did not like was the doors being on the same side and diagonal placed. It a bit more difficult in changing wind. So I would go for the FR. Does this help? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Hi, just found your channel as I have been looking for a new tent. I already have a Hilleberg Anjan 3 and a Nordisk telemark 2LW for fast backpacking. So I was looking at this Fjallraven as I love their trousers, but I also like the Hilleberg Allak 2... so I am torn between these two do you have a view
Kevin, I am sure I reacted to your comment but now I am lost: one UA-cam systems tells me I reacted to this, the other one doesn't... Please get back to me on this. Gijs
Outdoorguru sorry it was suppose to read as I have a few pairs of Fjallraven trousers, Ken’s, Barents pro and the Mo.1 hiking trousers. I am impressed with the way they design them. Great quality and robust. So my question, is the Abisko tent made to the same Fjallraven standard and how does it compare to a Hilleberg Allak 2 - do you have a view
@@kevinbungles The tents are made I the durable way but... G1000 is something different so don't expect the same in this way. This Abisko is sort of similar to the Hilly but the Hilly is a bit more easy to pitch. For durability I love the thicker fabric on the Fjall fly at the point where it touches the ground. Does this help? Cheers, Gijs

Great review, I am currently agonising over deciding to either purchase the fjallraven Keb dome 2 or the hilleberg staika for some serious winter trips above the treeline. I like the venting better on the fjallraven and the price is better than the Hilleberg. Hilleberg tents are legendary though and it's hard to ignore their pedigree. I don't want to make what could be a very expensive wrong decision.

@@Bikepacking No, I requested the tent on request of some of my followers. FR send the tent and I had it for more than a year. In that periode it has been out for about 4 months. I never keep the stuff not even when they tell/ask me. If I want to keep it I ask for a bill. Reviews on usability are most done in a few weeks, then I know enough about the pro's and con's. Hi Steven, Thank you for the sweet comment and happy camping too! Cheers, Gijs
Great review. I just ordered an Abisko lite 1 tent. Looking forward to using it.
Excellent worthwhile review, thank you.
Thank you Keith! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

I wish these tents had a little canopy one could attach, where the cap is fitted there are attachment points where the narrow part of a wedge shaped canopy could be fitted and the wider end could be supported with trekking poles, this would keep light rain/snow from from going into the vestibule.
Get the remark! Would be smart, some other manufacturers do it. I just use a small tarp 😄. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Would you recommend the dome for 3 season use with my dog, we are going out to live in the wilderness so needs to be sturdy yet not to heavy to be carrying every day
I find the Allak struggles with condensation, so packing up a wet tent everyday won’t be ideal, also looking at the Abisko lite shape 2 along with the dome 2 🤷🏻♂️

Excellent review. Thanks! Would you have an opinion on how it compares against the Hilleberg ALLAK 2 (for motorbike touring)?
Dave, You are true a Hilleberg fan! Funny thing: I like the FR pants but I think my Lundhags are better ;-). Cheers, Gijs
And now, a proud owner of this tent. Itching to get to test it out this weekend.
And it was good.

Dear Wints66, Well... I am small and with my wife - small to - the innerspace of 130 x 220 is fine and I think for taller people this is a two person tent and not a 1.5. The 100 cm height works well too. But it is still a lightweight backpacking tent. The 3 is bigger and depending on how you use it that might me a consideration. Does this help? Gijs

Gijs

Dear Mir Nejib Rahman, depending on what you want to use it for and the money you have....Dome for 4-season for sure and I like a double entrance. But the Lite is less complicated and cheaper and fine for 3 seasons. Does this help? Cheers, Gijs
Hi Gjs, love the review.. thoughts:
Do you think the Abisko Dome 2 is big enough for two for Northern Sweden conditions?

Dear Abel, Thanks for the thumbs up ;-)! What do you want to use the tent for? Cheers, Gijs
This one or the Exped Orion?
Hi Martin, I like the Orion. I reviewed it in the past for an outdoor magazine. What I did not like was the doors being on the same side and diagonal placed. It a bit more difficult in changing wind. So I would go for the FR. Does this help? Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
