    At the risk of being redundant with other commenters, I’m compelled to say thank you for your willingness to share your expertise with the Olympus E-M10 Mark II. This series of videos is invaluable. I’m brand new to digital photography and just fell upon a used Olympus E-M10 Mark II. I’m looking forward to having some fun with it and can’t imagine having a meaningful experience without first learning about it from you. You’re a natural born teacher. Great job. If Olympus isn’t compensating you in some way, they should. New subscriber. Keep em coming!

      May I just add that these are excellent videos. Manuals, even the seemingly standard 300 page + items, are of generally limited value.
      I trust my my hunch is incorrect, however I very much doubt if Olympus pay Rob one cent. He deserves many thanks from Olympus users for making their photography journeys more enjoyable and productive.

    For those with the newer E-M10 Mk.3, it's worth buying David Thorpe's book "The Olympus E-M10 MkIII Menu System Simplified". Do NOT buy the Kindle e-book version, as it isn't well formatted. Go for the paperback! The book goes into total detail of every single menu setting available on the new E-M10 MkIII. Each setting is simply explained in plain English, as well as the pro's and con's of its use. A great book to compliment Rob's invaluable video tutorials.

    I was just given this camera, its my first digital camera and I am super new to photography so i would like to THANK YOU FOR THESE VIDEOS! Holy moly, you make starting up so much easier to get into photography as a hobby for now. i've been pushed by many people to get into it because of how I see the world through my phone camera and now you have given me the best start!!!!! Thank you so much Rob!!!!!!!!!

    I have owned an OM-D E-M10 (original) for about 7 years (second hand from a hobbyist) and I could never really get it setup correctly. This caused me to lose interest in picking my camera up and going out to take pictures. I've read forums and watched so many videos for best practice settings and since I found your videos I now have the correct settings and it has changed my feelings about this camera and inspired me to get out and do more photography again. I've since purchased another lens (after watching your videos) and I have even picked up the Macro Extension Tube after watching one of your other videos so that I can really get everything out of my M.ZUIKO 40-150mm. Thank you for these wonderful videos, they are invaluable and were a huge help, just wish I would have found them sooner.

    I encourage Olympus to give some credit to your video's. Last year I got this camera from my father who passed away. After little time to spend I recently picked the camera up to learn more about it, and start making foto's. Your a great teacher with pleasant and clear presentation in getting to understand the basics of fotografy and the great specs this camera has to offer as a beginner❤

    Hello Rob and all appreciative followers. I actually had a question I couldn't get answered by the manual or Google, but having watched the first two videos I took a look through the menus (daunting to a beginner) and solved the problem. (The Info Button was only displaying two menu options, none of them the clear screen). I could have scrubbed this comment, but thought I'd take the opportunity to share anyway. Rob, your videos are so valuable and indispensable, thank you for taking so much time and trouble to help us all. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. Thank you.

    I have a OM-D E-M10 Mark I, this series has helped me finally get to grips with the camera and it's menus, frankly the pdf manual is terrible. The last SLR I had was back in the 1970's and everything was manual and I used to wind my own Ilford FP4 and develop my own prints too. Life is easier now, once you can get to grips with the tech. This all makes sense and I've instantly had some success with Aperture priority and getting the shot I had intended. Thank you so much. I can start really enjoying my modest camera now!

    Rob,
    I was over the moon when you mentioned my feedback about Sleep setting AND pronounced my name correctly, Joan, and not JoAnn...thanks so much for your receptive feedback from viewers. While I am still learning lots, a suggestion for another episode might be “Lenses to Consider” depending on what your viewers are photographing. You do a lot of real estate work and many of your tips are super helpful. I am interested in close up nature photos of wild flowers, mushrooms, streams, etc. Keep doing what you’re doing. Do you have a Facebook page? Best regards, Joan

    Rob, have just come across your videos.
    You clearly have a large number of very satisfied viewers.
    Doubtless, they will shout down the comments set out below.
    Please rest assured that my comments are intended to be constructive.
    I find that you race through the menus.
    I would find it to be of Significant assistance if, in the first and ? second videos, it would be a fantastic benefit if your could closely focus on the pages of detailed menus and have a coloured pointer discretely indicating each page of the menus and the sub menu items .
    Here,when talking about menu/function buttons, you "race" to which ? page of menu settings.
    Don't wish to labour the point and hopefully you have understood what I am driving at.
    Thanks.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  4 роки тому

      Thanks. The pointer idea would be great. I just don't have the video skill set yet to easily add pointers and lines. Something I should work on. Right now it would add hours to post production which is already laborouse process. I am planning a new set of tutorials and will try to incorporate more arrows, zooming in, and highlighting. It's just a bit beyond me right now.

    My SH-2 pocket travel zoom had a shutter failure - and the lens assembly spares are no longer available. I had paid for the full estimate in advance, and I was offered an E-M10 II as a replacement. It is new, but someone had already played with it, and I did a full reset. I have done the Super-Fine JPEG setting you suggested. When the battery has charged again, I will do a comparison between my surviving SH-1 and the E-M10 II on my favourite waterfront scene, intended for 33x23 inch prints.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 років тому

      Cool. I didn't even know about the SH-2. Looked like a neat little camera. E-M10ii should be a nice upgrade.

    It's worth noting that if you save your settings to Fn3 as you demonstrated then play around then use Fn3 to go back to the presets. If you turn the camera off, the next time you turn it on it will automatically go back to the settings prior to pushing Fn3. You will need to press Fn3 to go to the preset settings again. Great tutorial but as Rob said, get to know your camera.

    Thanks for posting these videos. Had the M10 for a few years, but had to replace it, so went for the M10ii. Even though I'm familiar with the interface, your tips are very helpful. Looking forward to putting this knowledge into practice.
    One nitpick - the "rule of thirds" grid the camera shows is not really thirds. It's actually a "rule of phi" or golden ratio grid. I'm not sure why Olympus doesn't give both options; it seems simple enough to do. Maybe in a future upgrade.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  6 років тому

      Thanks. I was under the impression rule of thirds was a simplified golden ration. Might discuss this a bit more later. But you are correct!

    I am loving your tutorials! I can't thank you enough for creating these. Again, I am a novice, but I love taking pictures. I love this camera! I can't believe all of the features it has and you are helping me to make sense of them. I really like filming the outdoors and nature more than people, so with that being said I am wondering why you turn off the EVF auto switch? Do you look through the monitor when you are filming landscape, birds, etc....? Keep these tutorials coming! Thanks so much!

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  5 років тому

      Thanks. I mainly do it in my videos because the camera I have that records the back of the screen on the em10 is too close and causes the screen to turn off and switch to the evf. On my normal photo walks, I prefer using the evf. The camera is more stable, it's easier to see and frame, and also I'm better at aiming the camera for birds in flight.

    In the Olympus manual (omd em10 mk ii) they use some strange lingo: The letters F G H I and use the symbol Omega (page 50). They do not explain what these mean. The manual leaves a lot of the details out to frustrate new users. Thanks and keep up the good work!
