A bit of a difficult one in many ways, wanted to make sure I included both Tech Tree & Seasonal units :) Let me know which units you think should also be on this list!
Where's the Javelin Sargents? I would personally advise against getting the imp pikes because you need to understand when and where to use them or else they die off easily on their first advance especially before being maxed leveled. But for Javelin Sargents, just throw into a pile of enemies at range and you will score kills no matter what, much safer and secure for a new player.
@@kermit147 Player kills DB, Unit kills Nodachi. Both are pretty easily countered though so not very new player friendly especially DB. Everyone has a dislike for DB's so if you're caught out of stealth expect to get focused and returned to the spawn screen.
Thanks for the updated Guide Evo, i'm still grinding everything to reach those units. Its pretty hard to do that without spending actual money because i'm doing if f2p style. Thumbs Up!
5:00 to all new players - especially those who do not have plans to upgrade their barrack size with Sovereigns - I recommend unlocking Paladins and Spear Sergeants manually before doing the Season5 challenges. If you have the units unlocked already, you will get a barrack slot expansion by 1, unit XP medals and a nice chunk of unit Kits instead of just the unit.
Started playing in August and after messing about with a bunch of gray/green units until +- level 100, the first real unit I obtained and maxed out were the Condottieri Guards. Still bring them in nearly every siege and TW match because a shock troop is just nice to have, in my opinion they deserve a spot on the list :). -- I do feel like Pike Militia has lost some of its power since everyone is bringing stalwarts nowadays, but they're still definitely worth leveling for new players.
Yeah condos are a very good unit, could well deserve a spot, I think in part the problem is I remember when they released back in season 3 and how powerful they were then compared to now!
Hey Evo! - I agree with your opinion about the starter units, I would suggest mostly these, but since you mentioned the Armigers, I think the upgraded Halberdiers worth a mention. Since they came out I'm having so much fun with them, easy to unlock, low maintenance, low leadership cost (even in the next season). :)
good video, wish you would have included more than ONE low Tier unit that you do not have to go to season challenges to unlock. For a new player those season challenges can take quite a long time of grinding. Of course ppl with cash will just buy right through with-out the grind. , good ol pay to win.
2 more plus points on the stalwarts: Firstly the unupgraded version, spear sergeants, are almost as good - so even when grinding for them you have an extremely good unit. Compare paladins, the unupgraded unit is kind of naff. Secondly, stalwarts are the number 1 PVE unit ingame (and to further point 1 - spear sergeants are probably number 2). Pretty much any pve encounter, with the exception of eagle pass expedition where you really need 1 unit of orange cav + 1 unit of vassal longbowmen, you can dominate with just the stalwarts.
Very good vid man. Just to share, monastics are the first T5 I unlocked. Very tanky when elited, good for noob cav users like me. As for winged hussars, I unlocked them by finishing the F4 quests. Very good charge, and swift. Stalwarts and paladins might be daunting task for new players especially since they have to unlock the (zylkian militia?) first but you'll never go wrong once you have them. Also condos or azaps are still viable for shock troopers in sieges. Still waiting for your imp shield vid. I want to see your dissapointment with them haha.
man i got lucky. i piked the spear militia thinking. this would go well when i pick archer. and also picked some archer squad and a shield unit. i think out of all the options i picked the best. and now using spear/bow and having my troops focussed on archers. my friend picked the stalwart paladin route. as he loves to brute charge into combat.
Have max level paladins and they are quickly becoming my favourite unit in the game, so friendly to use and only improve as you improve as a commander. Loving the videos as always, what house are you currently in?
Personally, I find the javelin Sargents as the best starter unit. They are the most cost-effective due to being midway between ranged and melee, which means they can remain alive throughout an entire match and deal serious damage every time they throw their javelins. Specifically for starters who lack unit diversity, having one go-to unit to remain viable on the battlefield should be the greatest consideration and Javelin Sargents fits this niche perfectly.
@@EvoLozGaming If you want to teach them melee mechanics, condotorii guards, or any other melee shock troop would be better. Jav Sgts are just the bridge unit that gives newer players a quick way to constantly earn rewards.

If you take the free spear sergeants, do you lose out on the extra barracks slot? I'll be grinding for Liaos Rangers soon, and if you need the fire lancers beforehand for the extra slot, I'll be spending honour to unlock the prefecture heavy cav, dagger-axe, and fire lancers. Honour can easily be gained. Barracks slots are priceless.
