What the older animation studios lacked in computer power, they more than made up for it in terms of heart, storyline content and bad ass soundtracks. I sure miss them.
There should have been a Thundercats-Silverhawks crossover back in the day. Mumm-Ra & Mon*Star teaming up (along with the Evil Mutants & Mon*Star's partners in evil) against the Thundercats & Silverhawks would have been great to see.
Silverhawks was deeply beloved by the animators who worked on it. References to this show are hidden in many anime productions. But the biggest homage of all was in Macross 7 where the main character Nicky flew his spaceship while playing guitar, exactly like Bluegrass. This went on for the entire series.
Muy bueno cartoon from the 80's. I used to watch this in mexico from around 91 to 95 im 34 years old now and i still love them as same as thundercats. -Las mejores caricaturas siempre -The best cartoons ever

You know, alot of the time, I go back and watch a show from my childhood, and one of the first things that I remember is how bad the animation actually was compared to how I remember it. However this animation still holds up pretty well. It doesn't have the computer effects more modern show have, but that almost makes it better. You can really appreciate the craftsmanship that was put into this.
I remember two episodes of this used to come on weekdays at 8:00 am one hour before The Great Space Coaster on the USA Network during the 1986-87 school year when I was 5 and in Kindergarten.
I could see Bluegrass totally becoming an icon in the year 2018 if he were just put back out there, similar to Optimus Prime several years ago. He's cool as f***.
Also, I know I am showing my age, but the idea of Silverhawks is an American derivation of the G-Force team from Batle of the Planets (from the ealy 1970s). Notice these similarities Quicksilver = Mark (leaders), Ironheart = Princess, Ironwill = Tiny, Bluegrass = Jason Copper Kid = Keyop, Cmdr Stargazer = Chief Anderson, Mon-Star = Zoltar
you do realize that the same makers of Silverhawks, made Thundercats? Infact Peter newman voices both Tygra and Quicksilver. They are more or less the same characters in a form of reincarnation so seeing them fight is hard to imagine but i agree the Silverhawks intro theme is much cooler than Thundercats
My religious aunt was convinced that Monstar represented Satan, so she wouldn't let her kids play with his figures. She gave it to me (I guess because she'd rather Satan possess me instead) and I loved it.
I watched this as a kid. Never knew what what was going on in show except for action sequences because I couldn't understand English back then. Good memories though.
Dude, so 80’s. I watched it originally when it first aired as like a 7 year old and then rewatched it when I was in college on Toonami in like 2001. Show was even better!
So I wasn't crazy. Mon-Star's transformation in the show's intro is much more Mum-ra like and very different from the way it's portrayed in the episodes, themselves.
Am I the only one who notices all the connections to other franchises? Narrator's voice: Voice actor who portrayed 1980s Thindercats Lion-O 5 member team; 4 males, 1 female, fly like birds. G-Force: Guardians of Space. Monstar; The way he speaks, has 2 forms. Mumm-Ra from Thundercats Quicksilver = X-Men Ironheart = Dartz's father from Yu-Gi-Oh
Vamien McKalin Disney did a movie of the same name in 1994. It is rated PG. It is the companion to White Fang and White Fang 2: Myth of the White Wolf.

KABLAAAAMMM!! I JUST GOT AN AWESOME IDEA! Hollywood is always looking for movie ideas, and often they like to remake old cartoon characters and bring them to life. So .... Hollywood could do a live version of Silverhawks with great digital effects to do the needed animation! They could have R Lee Emery play Cmdr Stargazer, and actually have Lady Gaga play Melodia! But as always, the story must be fantastic, otherwise the entire Silverhawks legend will be destroyed! Hello, Michael Bay?
It was made by the creators of Thundercats. Even the heroes and villains look like the others, Mon-Star / Mumm-Ra. And unless I am mistaken the narrator's voice is Larry Kenney who voice acted Lion-O...
Unlike most 80s cartoon properties that were developed as merchandise first, ThunderCats and SilverHawks were created as independent media IP by Rankin/Bass and then licensed out to toymakers. LJN, who produced the ThunderCats figures, passed on the SilverHawks license, and that's why the SH merch was made by Kenner instead.
Kinda? That's exactly what it was. So much so that a lot of the voice talent from Thundercats did the voices on this show. Hell Monstar is quite obviously based on Mumm-Ra with the transformation sequence and everything.
No, there Tally Hawk wasn't the first. Two I can think of offhand are the homing robot from Speed Racer (Mach Go) in 1966. The first autonomous robot in a humanoid form rather than a drone shape goes back even further to the excellent 1941 Superman cartoon 'The Mechanical Monsters' and those robots could fly.
Do u guys forget about the educational pop quiz about planets and space they did at the end of every silver hawks episodes stupid huh they try to teach our kids about Pluto.
Amazing this hasn't had a remake like so many other cartoons of this era...then again, maybe it's best left as is because they would butcher it and cater too much to the newer generation. Don't even want to know how screwed a live action movie would be lol. Would be awesome if this could be remade and kept similar to the source though.
though this is a ripoff of the thundercats. It was truly imaginative to create such characters with their complex abilities. Cartoon nowadays can't come half close to this. Kids all over the world enjoyed this and would run around with silverhawk masks. How i had to patiently wait once a week at 5pm to watch this on TV with all those cool toy ads that comes along with it :)
Think of it as the cousin show. The original Silverhawks, other than Stargazer, 4 humans from Earth and one alien. Thundercats was all half man, half cat.
dantes peek SilverHawks was made by the same makers as Thundercats. They used the same formula for success with enough difference. Snarf, Wily kit & Wily Kat was replaced by one character Copper kid. Instead of making the twins a pair of kids they made the twins adults in SilverHawks. I will say this series did not get as much exposure as Thundercats seem to be where the networks financial eggs were at.
did anyone realize that the name's of the twins is different here? "Iron Heart and Iron Will". My copy has the "Steel Heart and Steel Will" names in the intro. Don't try to "Mandela Affect Me" youtube!!!
Please name who is your favorite Silverhawk and your favorite member of Mon-star's mob? Steelheart and Melodia for me. This show lacked female characters. Thank you for participating!!

Much agreed, friend. Much agreed...😊

In the new version of Thundercats moon star have a cameo
I totally agree.
They would have sold more toys for sure.
There's still talk about doing a Thundercats movie. Who knows? Perhaps someone might take your idea to heart. I wouldn't mind seeing it happen.
I'd be ALL for that!
Need to see a movie in the future of silver hawks!!
One of my favorite shows growing up. Had all the toys too.
Good old Days😊
This brings back memories. My dad use to wake me up to watch cartoons in the morning
This was the best cartoon, the animation was so awesome for the time, great job to the creators
Silverhawks deserved better.
That electric guitar sound at 3:01 - 3:20 is awesome!
+RatBatSpiderCrab Any kid who didn't air-guitar the SHIT outta that riff was definitely dead inside :P
Glam metal allways rocks!
RatBatSpiderCrab Manowar needs to cover this entire thing
And the way they sync footage of BlueGrass, like he's actually playing! 😄👏👏👏👏👏
Silverhawks was deeply beloved by the animators who worked on it. References to this show are hidden in many anime productions. Silverhawks will be back after these messages
Too bad they didn't have real plots.
I've never seen this show, but it looks so awesome, I literally have goosebumps.
Sage Antone it was awesome... it is awesome this and Thundercats ruled TV
until Dragon ball Z lol
Sage Antone silverhawks was dope!! I still have Num I jumbo, & steel will. You should check out tiger sharks. It was good too
0Shells there was a timespan of about 30 yrs from thundercats/silver hawks/tiger sharks and dbz
This trumps anything on modern tv

"planet of the mimes" makes me break out laughing even today.
I used to think the Copper Kid was autistic! LOL
60473hellraiser because everyone hates mimes so much we shipped the all off to another planet
@@T3HR3PP4 I used to think the copper kid was an android!
The SOUND QUALITY is GREAT!!

That's because this is the opening sequence. They'd always go all out on the intro animations compared to the actual episodes.
@@TetsuDeinonychus yeah. For example, the Thundercats intro is amazing. The actual cartoon animation wasn't even half as good.
@@eddygtube You can say the exact same thing about a modern show like Gravity Falls
I remember two episodes of this used to come on weekdays at 8:00 am one hour before The Great Space Coaster on the USA Network during the 1986-87 school year when I was 5 and in Kindergarten.
If only TIVO or even programmable VCRs were mainstream back in the early 80s we'd not have lost so many vintage Excellent cartoons.
I could see Bluegrass totally becoming an icon in the year 2018 if he were just put back out there, similar to Optimus Prime several years ago. He's cool as f***.
Considering Larry Kenny voiced both characters, we might be closer to that than you think. Start a petition :) the internet has the power :)
Also, I know I am showing my age, but the idea of Silverhawks is an American derivation of the G-Force team from Batle of the Planets (from the ealy 1970s). Notice these similarities

CountNadir "Tigersharks" was also in there..it was A Trifecta you might say!!!
And Larry Kenney, the narrator, was also the voice of Lion-O, Lord of the Thundercats.
My religious aunt was convinced that Monstar represented Satan, so she wouldn't let her kids play with his figures. She gave it to me (I guess because she'd rather Satan possess me instead) and I loved it.
i WISH they would bring this show and a few other's BACK to TV
I watched this as a kid. Never knew what what was going on in show except for action sequences because I couldn't understand English back then. Good memories though.
2:09 somehow that guy looks more like the stereotypical villain
This is the most 80's show I've seen when I was a kid, all that chrome and laser effects LOL
Dude, so 80’s. I watched it originally when it first aired as like a 7 year old and then rewatched it when I was in college on Toonami in like 2001. Show was even better!
Silverhawks™! A Rankin/Bass Production!
My mother really loved this show when she had to babysit my uncle Cristian
Silverhawks will be back after these messages
The best opening among others from that era.
Need to see a reimagined version of silver hawks
Gliding throught space air!
My brother loved the Silverhawks. I enjoyed it, too, but I also loved the Thundercats. Good thing they were from the same creators.
Now I am missing my childhood😢
Rankin bass really knew how to make the soundtracks for their cartoons. Having Japanese animators also a nice touch
So I wasn't crazy. Mon-Star's transformation in the show's intro is much more Mum-ra like and very different from the way it's portrayed in the episodes, themselves.
Childhood memories
Agreed! I also watched it when I was in college in 2001 on Toonami on Cartoon Network. I would go home like a kid to watch it again.
so nostalgic
Am I the only one who feels that they should have a reboot? No, good because you don't mess with a true classic like this
Am I the only one who notices all the connections to other franchises?
Narrator's voice: Voice actor who portrayed 1980s Thindercats Lion-O
5 member team; 4 males, 1 female, fly like birds. G-Force: Guardians of Space.
Monstar; The way he speaks, has 2 forms. Mumm-Ra from Thundercats
Quicksilver = X-Men
Ironheart = Dartz's father from Yu-Gi-Oh
I thought that was Lion-O's voice in the intro. :)
Something's not right here. The narrator refers to the twins as "Iron Heart" and "Iron Will". They are "Steel Heart" and "Steel Will".
The names are Iron Heart and Iron Will, but they have Steel Hearts and Steel Will.
Vamien McKalin Disney did a movie of the same name in 1994. It is rated PG. It is the companion to White Fang and White Fang 2: Myth of the White Wolf.
Lo mejor de una época. Amazing...
@VBaskin2010 He's also the voice of the Silverhawk Bluegrass, most of the Thundercat voice actors did Silverhawks!!!

WGNX 46 Atlanta, Georgia's Independent station.
Mon-Star's transformation was pretty gruesome, his skin is tearing itself to reveal the metal costume.
I would love to see the Silverhawks in the new Thundercats series.

+CountNadir the 2011 series is a reboot and it wasn't really bad.
I just finished watching this whole series for the first time last night! Good series but I prefer Thundercats.

@dynomitis I know but it's still funny to hear
Mon-star vs Mumbra anyone?
Please name who is your favorite Silverhawk and your favorite member of Mon-star's mob?
Steelheart and Melodia for me. This show lacked female characters.
Thank you for participating!!

It’s very Zarbon in here.
It does not get any cooler than the Copper Kid!!!!!!
Planet of the mimes? Did he really say that?
Yes, oh, yes. I found that... unsettling.
The universe is indeed scary
Hey That's Lion-O Doing The Intro Huh?

Kho Ah Thong You kinda did...Lady Gaga has admitted to modeling her style on this shows character.. 'Melodia'...
Yeahhh....she was Melodia
Did the sliverhawks KILL that bitch? I don't like gaga.
Ironhart and Ironwill?
Is that David Hasselhoff narrating?
Magneto could easily make mincemeat out of them.
Well, maybe except the Copperkid. 😂
