Great video. However, I must respectfully disagree when the author says that VE is not a cost cutting method. In the end, everything boils down to either money or happiness and from the stakeholders perspectives, the two are usually intertwined. Perhaps not money in year 1 (initial construction cost), but the best alternative (greatest value) is the option that minimizes the life cycle costs while maintaining the quality of the product throughout its life while maintaining stakeholder satisfaction. Said another way, alternate X will always be preferred over alternate Y if the summation of stakeholder life cycle costs of Alternative X is less than Alternate Y.

You were doing so well until you went from Information Phase directly to Creative Phase. Function Analysis is the heart and soul of Value Engineering. If you get nothing else right, you must know Function Analysis is the cornerstone of VE. Function Analysis delineates VE from any other project improvement tool. The rest of the phases mean nothing without Function Analysis… a multi-disciplinary team going through the Function Analysis process. You mention functions, but a detailed explanation of the Function Analysis Phase is needed to make this video correct. This video was like making an apple pie without putting the most important ingredient in….apples.
