Rachel, I finally got myself a Tube amp (Jadis Orchastra) and man I wish I had gone to Tube amps much sooner. It's so musical. For Jazz but also for Rock. If you're gonna get a new Amp try to see if you can go Tube. The one I got was second hand and much cheaper then new.
Apparently these Harbeth’s prefer a powerful integrated amp over tubes - but that’s simply more opinion. Very happy for you re: your own system. Suffice to say - we are now the proud owners of a Hegel H400 😎😬🤭🥰
*Huey* over yr left shoulder, *Louie* over yr right, looking for a missing subwoofer - - only then will they play Nadine's soundtrack properly. Even then an accredited audiophile needs the right watering can.
Welcome back to the fold ampy 🌈 Hey Rachel have you seen the film Dunkirk? Everton's new owner as if today was the stunt pilot for Tom Hardy flying and using his own Spitfire. Including landing the unpowered Spitfire at the end onto the beach 💙 ua-cam.com/video/vtibK6xBBiE/v-deo.htmlsi=Nswts2Tg0GzqZrjo
Rachel, just my opinion and it bears repeating, but you are getting amp suggestions from every tom, dick and jerry. Stick with those folks that know what amp will be synergistic with your speakers. It isn’t all about wattage. Nor “I like this amp, you should check it out!” Its which amp will match your Harbeths. The most crucial factor is impedence matching. (For example, if an amplifier is rated for 8Ω speakers, using 8Ω or higher (like 16Ω) speakers is advisable.) Think “Why are some speakers hard to drive and others not?” etc. Not “Hey you should try these suckers, they are awesome!”Side note on volume: Whenever you are having turn your amp up to 11 in order to get decent volume, you probably are introducing some distortion (that you may or may not be aware of because you haven’t heard the speakers properly in your room yet to know the difference) Its fairly simply scientific and tried and true as far as how to match an amp with speakers. I know it can be frustrating when you want things to sound killer but take your time and find the right amp. Just because so and so’s amp sounds great and works with their speakers does not mean it will with Harbeths. Also, when one says “This amp has great synergy with this speaker” What do they mean? Spec wise or listening? And what are they hearing say with a Naim vs the Hagel? More warmth? More neutral? etc. Specs have to match first then move on to which characteristics are going to be brought out of your speakers with a particular amp. Harbeths are usually fairly easy to drive and work with a variety of amps (they have an agreeable impedence/load), even tubes. However, because they have lower sensitivity that is probably where your volume issues are coming in. Since these speakers do have a impedence that is smoother some folks like tube amps with them. Double check this with the fellas who are more knowledgeable. You know who to listen to, don’t get corn-fused with too much input ;) A nickels worth from layman John 😁 (Geesh, I teared up on that Superman trailer also. Will they finally get the reboot right? Very cool🦸🏻) Thanks for the stream Rachel and Sue!🎸✌🏻
Thank you Aggie - we have made the leap - just purchased a Hegel H400 - You raise great points here. I must say Michael at Poetry on Plastic has been a big help. Obviously, I’ll put the amp up as a topic for discussion tomorrow. I really appreciate you taking the time to help us with the purchasing decision. 🙏🥰

Yeah but which watering can is “the” one!?!? 😂
