  • Experienced mountain bikers know how to pick the best lines and sometimes it's the little things that they are looking for. Getting assistants from small roots or rocks to get over difficult sections is a technic called bump jumping. Once you master this skill your riding will reach the next level.

I'm a convert. From now on it's Bump Jump. No need to overthink something that is easy and just makes sense.

This is great. I've been riding for more than thirty years and while I've used that technique before, I never really gave it enough thought to call it a name, and I certainly never took the time to master it. Thanks for a thoughtful explanation of something I always just thought of as flow. Sometimes you got it, sometimes you don't, but if you practice good technique you probably got it more than you don't.

Glad you liked it. It’s something we all use, but we never really think about it.

Hey great video man. I like the way you break things down. Like others I'm sure I've used this at times but probably never mastered it and used it to my benefit as much as I could. Gonna definitely be looking at the trails differently now 👍

I started learning bump jumps this year and I'm addicted. I really scan the trails for them now. They are so rewarding with little risk. Natural roots are the best ones!

Thanks for the awesome video. I love doing bump jumps! It's my bread and butter. I've yet to clear a gap and catch a down slope thus far let alone clearing a double. I've never been able to fully let go yet.

It is a little secret one that I learned when I was a kid ( I'm now 52) and it's one that I've used for years. I will bump jump first before I bunny hop (although I can do both) but that's my secret too to keeping speed.

If you're running TUBES, make sure to run DH 1.4 mm thick ones for bump jumps safely

You can also make sure to keep your tire pressure from dropping too low. This technique worked fine before anyone ran tubeless.
