Today I react to 소향 Sohyang as a musician and producer, along with my singer wife! We got this recommendation to react to Sohyang since I'm a producer and can provide some input as to what is going on musically, as well as my wife who is a great singer. Welcome to Sohyang's world. She is a gospel singer, arranger, author and cancer survivor. Not a Kpop star.
You won't find her under a large label, she is an independent artist. She decided years ago to not sign to a label because that path is not one that she wanted. She turned down Sony just a couple of months ago. she sings to comfort and heal not for huge bucks. Secondly she has poor health, her treatment left her with recurring bouts of pneumonia.
They are sitting because standing is considered disrespectful, especially by the older generation. Most times they won't stand until the very end but even then it's mostly the younger people who do that.
Trust me she isn't acting, she means every word.
She arranged the song by herself. She is a fantastic vocalist! I love her so much!!!❤️❤️❤️
So Hyang does all her all her arrangements.. And this is a singing show she was on . By the way that E5 is not even close to the top of her Mixed voice range.. she can destroy a C#6 with amazing power
Sohyang is my Queen of Singers and Dimash is my King of Singers! To me Sohyang is the best female singer to me because she sings with her heart, soul and emotions and touches her audience in a speciel way. She is blessed from above! ♥️
The show is "Immortal Songs 2" a Korean singing competition for professional, popular artists. She arranged this song by Simon and Garfunkel as she does for all of the songs that she does. She has been referred to as the Korean Mariah Carey. Although she is popular and famous in Korea, she has chosen not to sign with any label because she has as her goal to bring joy to those who need it through her music.

Thank you for the earnest reaction. In some way, I felt that you might have been ambushed by a vocal master when you were expecting some trendy kpop music. Although Sohyang is Korean, her music probably doesn't fit the Kpop description very well. She is without a doubt among the elite vocalists in the world. I am glad you met her today.
Both of these performances took place on the Korean competition show "Immortal Song 2" where established singers are invited to reinterpret songs based on a theme. For "Bridge Over Troubled Water", the theme was popular English song. For "Lean On Me", it was Michael Bolton Special. You can think of the show as "American Idol" but with Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Tori Kelly, and Lady Gaga as contestants.
Glad the baby could join in at the end to experience some magnificent singing with you. I was wondering whether the kid could stay asleep through Sohyang's performances. Sohyang's top range, unofficially, reaches up to EB7 but that's not point for good music. The 5th octave is home backyard for Sohyang but it's her ability to inject emotion and passion into her performances that makes her the special artist as she is.
The show is a competition where the singers do cover songs with their arrangements and get voted off every week by the audiences. As it as a 'competition' they tend to take it pretty seriously but you do get some master pieces.

She is a great Korean gospel singer. There are many K-pop stars in Korea, but there are many other great singers as well besides idol groups like BTS, Black Pink. Among them, there is a world class singer named Sohyang. She is considered one of the best vocalists in the world by many vocal coaches and singers all over the world. I hope you listen to her song once again. She was originally a gospel singer, not a popular singer. She has pure, humble and beautiful mind.
She never sing a song for the fame and the money. She said that She always want to sing a song to heal and comfort wounded many peoples mentally, physically.
I'm a Buddhist but I love her beautiful soul and respect her sincere faith in God. She looks like an angel. She always touches my heart and makes me cry through her so emotional song. It's just amazing and breathtaking. I'll always love her forever.

So on this show each episodes they choose a legendary artist or song genre. They have different singers in korea and they rearrange the song to their own styles and they compete for 1st place in that episode. So she does all the arrangements for these covers.

Idk if someone already commented this but 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is a comforting song by Simon and Garfunkel, released in 1970. You should also listen to the original and read the lyrics. The lyrics are very comforting and beautiful. Both of these versions are beautiful❤️❤️❤️

Well you certainly jumped into the deep end of the So Hyang pool, welcome in the water's warm! Very nice reaction, as you figured out these contest show arrangements are pretty crazy so for your next video you should do I Will Always Love You which is done in an acoustic arrangement in Whitney's original key, lots of cool stuff there including a unique sax solo. Fun fact: the Lean on Me Bb5 was actually a B5 but the crowd went so crazy when she hit it that when the crowd noise was removed post-production it was lowered by a semi-tone. Her other live performances of this song go to B5 as well (and there was even one recording where she made it to C6 in the same mixed belt.) This is Immortal Songs 2 and the theme for this particular show was 'English pop songs' It's a contest for well known artists in Korea. She arranged this piece.
As to where she ranks, Critic of Music ranks her at Star level next to Whitney. Lady Gaga is ranked as an A.
People do cry when she sings, even people who don't normally cry. Someone even made a compilation of vocal coaches crying to Sohyang. I am sure with this song, she is pouring out her own journey. The cancer treatment left her infertile at just 21.
Your voice will go out in 2 over min? Try "Everyone" by Sohyang. That is a 7+ min of craziness.
By the way, she is not trained classically. In fact, she had only 4 lessons by Seth Riggs as far as we know.

and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special.
So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist
who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom.
She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her
Books...(both Published and there are more).

Sohyang is a professional Gospel singer rather than a K-Pop singer. Also this is one of the most famous pop songs of all time and dominated the US, UK and European charts when it was released and has been covered by everyone from Elvis Presley to Willie Nelson to Aretha Franklin
개인적인 생각이지만 훌륭한 리액션은 아닌 것 같은데... 가수라는 여자분은 계속 관객들과 게스트들의 표정을 따라하며 낄낄거리고 노래에는 전혀 집중 못하는데, 뷰티풀만 가끔 외쳐준다고 그레잇 리액션이라고 하는 건 매우 오버라고 생각해요. 웬만하면 영어로 댓 달고 감사인사 하는데 전문적인 설명도 거의 없으면서 멈춤과 광고가 아주 많고...보통 전문가들 중 사이먼앤가펑클 모르는 분이 없고 모르면 리액션 전에 노래를 검색이라도 해보는 정도의 성의가 있을텐데...소향님 리액션 영상이라 싫어요 누르긴 싫으니 그냥 지나갑니다.

Both are Immortal Songs 2. The second one is a the 'Micheal Bolton Special' all the artists sang 'his' songs. MB Lean on Me is a cover in case you didn't know. The original was by Bill Withers, more of a R&B sound.

an E♭7. This means that she has an overall range of approximately four octaves and
one semitone. However, this range hasn't been showcased to its fullest extent yet,
as the highest note she has publicly showcased is A6. Her belting range/mixed voice

I think if you didn't pause in the middle of a high note or phrase, the song wouldn't be so butchered. I understand the pausing because it's a reaction, but maybe work on pausing in better places. Anyways thanks for checking out Sohyang. She is incredible 😍

Without offending you guys, I speak now in a general way: it starts to annoy me when I see professionals (singers, producers, etc.) saying "I have never heard this song" referring to legendary songs as is the case here or "Hello" performed by Dimash. I know it's been a while since they were launched but when you're active in a certain field you're supposed to know a lot more than an ordinary person, including some history, not just technical stuff. I've even seen reactors wondering "wow who's this guy "- referring to Elvis ... such a thing is not allowed. You have nothing to do to make musical reactions when you have never heard about Elvis in your life ... it means that you are parallel to music or have lived in the cave so far. Or another exemple issued from Sohyang reactions : you cannot be a pro and to say "this guy" reffering to Michael Bolton. C'mon....

I like how you commented on the post-production quality and how the sharp note you heard made her sound human. A lot of us Sohyang fans don't like to admit that these TV show performances are heavily edited and that Sohyang isn't pitch perfect but a normal human being after all. It is worth noting that post production also took away a lot from the performance. Most impacted is resonance and the tonal quality. If you hear the fancam of the first performance you can hear how dark and chesty her tone was plus the booming resonance. She did go flat and sharp several times and it was not perfect but she still nailed the performance and to hear it in person would be a blessing. In the second performance, I heard the fancam audio and the high Bb5 note was actually a B5 note but the audience went crazy so the audio was too loud and in post production they had to lower the note to a Bb5. Fun fact : She can do the B5s in every single performance of Lean On Me no matter how sick she was. So while she isn't perfect, she still is a master vocalist. She's a cancer survivor and is still struggling with pneumonia/bad health so sometimes she would have vocal complications. Just a heads up.
