Thank you for this. If that was a rant then it was a very respectful one. I love watching nature help me in the garden as I try to make a safe space in my small urban garden. Birds and native wasps will take care of caterpillars and good spacing and airflow will prevent most diseases. Please keep being you and spreading your positive message 😊

I agree with you. I look at it this way - I'm growing food at home because I want something natural. So, it should grow natural. If I 'juiced' it by adding synthetic things - then why grow the food at home? Just buy it at the store then.

Omg I’ve been learning to grow food and this whole “wait and see” approach is exactly what I’ve been doing! I’ve learned so much and it’s been PHENOMENAL seeing what plants can come back from

I love your videos! Thank you for all the work you do- it's been so great as an Austin transplant coming from a northern climate to educate myself. I sometimes feel like you are my friend because I listen to you talk so much!! lol. It seems like you've got mostly full sun in your garden, but I'd love your tips on gardening in full or partial shade. I have a lot of it in my yard and want to try and get some native plants and pollinators here to benefit my vegetables. Let me know if you have any favorite shade growers, or plants that say "full sun" but may actually tolerate shade here in Austin. Thanks!!

Thank you so much! A few options that have done well in shady areas for me have been Mexican honeysuckle, tropical, sage, flame acanthus, turk's cap and trailing lantana. Consider ground covers such frog fruit, or horseherb. They may not be quite as ornamental, but they benefit wildlife. I have also had success with some herbs that grow in morning sun/afternoon shade such as basil, oregano, and thyme. You may try experimenting with things in containers, and if they work, could be established in-ground, in the future. I hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions.

Hey, I'm in north side of Austin, and we haven't gone below I think 34 or 33, and even those temps just for a few hours one or two days. Everything in my garden has been dying in a very strange way over the past week, today it is really noticeable. Everything. Leaves are turning brown, curling. Crops that can easily tolerate a frost or freeze. Anything similar for you? 'They' are spraying us like bugs; that's my guess.

Hello! I covered my kale and broccoli when it got down to 34 and they look good. Sometimes the windchill can burn plants even if the low temperature is above freezing. I think it’s a good practice to cover plants through the first couple of frosts until they get established. I hope you’re plants rebound!

Hi! A little off topic but Do you know where I can buy sequoia strawberry plants/crowns for FALL planting here in Texas? You have a vid explaining that it's best to plant them in November as an overwintering annual. No place seems to have them in the fall. You bought plants instead of crowns. Where did you get those in fall?

Hello! I got mine at The Natural Gardener in southwest Austin. I didn't see them when I went last week, but they should have some in the coming weeks. They also carry them in late winter.

What is an organic way to kill a tree/bush growing under my propane tank 😅 I’m scared it will tilt/push my propane tank eventually

If it’s accessible you may be able to simply cut it back and continually cut back any new sprouts. Over time this is likely to exhaust the energy stored in its roots and it will become weaker and weaker until it dies. I hope that helps!

You may be able to do this in the home garden but when it’s a 3,000 acre corn field in Nebraska it’s hard to do almost impossible. Organic is the chemical found in its natural state . The same
Organic chemical is synthetically reproduced and will generally take longer to break down and have to be applied less frequently. I’m all for as little organic or synthetic chemicals as possible but a home gardener can do this way more easily than a commercial farmer .
