Fun fact: you can see my drawing visibly get better over the course of the video. Not only are the later frames just plain better than those at the beginning, I got faster at drawing them too, which translated into more characters and accessories on each frame. (Note: the first dozen or so frames were drawn at the end of production.)
I didn’t originally plan for this to be in two parts, but the script got too long and I found this story way too interesting to cut anything. So continue on to part two to find out what happens to Royal Dutch, Shell, Standard Oil, and our special guest: the Russo-Japanese war! ua-cam.com/video/WQTZRbhvBik/v-deo.html

I hope one day, when Victoria 3 is out we will see a possibility to make huge capitalist companies in many spheres with the abitity to capture the entire global market.
Companies is one of my biggest dreams for Vic 3 atm. Although I think it would be even cooler (and in line with the modern zeitgeist) if we got an even broader avatarization where all sorts of pops are made visible in one way or another.
So prominent capitalists would have companies, which in turn might control countries.
But you'd also see things like the Congo being a personal possession of Leopold II.
And with revolutions you might see a prominent worker get promoted to a prominent general before taking power.
Obviously I don't want it to be CK1800, nor Imperator: Britain. I want it to be Vic, but with a few faces to give the pop-system greater flavour.
Well....

To add another layer onto the "murex" name. The murex genus of sea snails the genus that are used to produce the pigments used to make Tyrian Purple dye, which in antiquity was worth it's weight in gold... and is worth more than fifty times its weight in gold by today's prices.

The thought of Queen Victoria dislike the woman's suffrage is very interesting, to my personal perspective, I agree with her, simply out of the insane means the suffragettes activity did.
Man you are so cool.
The suffragettes got what they wanted.
Suffragettes > Bri'ish Tories
@@chinggiskhan6678 In some view, as the head leader of the Suffragette, was suprizingly welled off, had a father who is a lawyer and mother who owns a hospital.
What appeals about the suffragettes the most is the middle class and only some working class appeal, as it obsession to democracy and equality, believe it's freedom in a odd view. To my perspective, absolute democracy and equality, is simply mob rule and collectivism, outway the individual.
So do I support the suffragettes? Depends, while I support a woman the right to free will and self-atomany for one own happiness in reality and reason, the right to vote the other hand, could lead to at best telling the government to back off from individual freedom, at worst tyranny for power and control, for my view, it's to the ladder on democracy, when the constitution is compromise.
well, it's not like duopolies or triopilies make conditions any better. 3 companies own the formula for the EpiPen in America but that doesn't stop them from being 400 bucks a pop.
Geology saved the day!
When Standard Oil Broke Up we get smaller Companies but those arent to Standard Height Yet like the Standard of California become Chevron and ExxonMobil was a combined company but as we know they were under one banner the Standard Banner

gradually, standard oil had a 90% market share, and by 1906 through competition from other firms, it's share went down to 70%, then in 1911, right before the breakup it went down to 64%, after the government breakup it went down to 11%, prior to the breakup it was already going down. Markets are self correcting, when a "monopoly" rises, there are no prices in a market and thus no way of knowing where and how to allocate resources, so your basically just hoarding so much oil and don't know what to do with it. it's basically like those little blocks we used to play with as a kid, the higher you stack them, and eventually they fall down.
Imagine trying to have a cutting war against the richest factory of the world
When you said dutch sumatra i instantly think standard oil is better
thats great for asia, but didn't standard oil keep it's monopoly over the US?

But if someone has a competition it is not a monopoly.....
Standard Oil wasn't a monopoly.
The company had more competitors along it's life time, the price of the oil only went down along it's life, too, what characterizes a monopoly is the lack of competitors due to market barriers, and there was NO barriers to enter in this market, Rockefeller wasn't a government which imposed rules on you to not explore this market. The accusations of predatory prices were ridiculous, too, he was merely efficient, and his competitors (some previously trying to create cartel) couldn't do the same, selling their companies to him, and getting mad after Rockefeller suggest a low price to buy it considering the loss of the company he would absorve in Standard's body. Some were even J.P. Morgan's money influence, that guy hated Rockefeller, tried several times to beat him down, and hired some dogs (including the president Theodore Roosevelt, who confessed the motivation of Standard's stalking were personal) to defeat Rockefeller's company in the political way.
Another thing to consider is that the main base to beat Standard Oil down in the court trials, were accusations of violation of stupid laws which do not allowed bargain with railroad companies at that time (main way of oil transport for all companies in this market), so they accused Rockefeller of merely.., try to ask a lower price to transport his desired oil by the citizens, in the trains.
Standars Oil was put down as result of corruption and rage of rich men and bankrupt entrepreneurs, not by "combat of monopolies". If you want a true example of monopoly and it's consequences, search for Petrobras, a state-owned company of oil exploration and refine, which prohibit competition through regulations and have high prices due lack of oil and inefficiency, payed with taxes, in south america.

Oh Boi, thats not free market
I clicked and it turned on auto play now im on cgp greys channle
If I didn't know any better I thought I heard a tone of tacit condoning of Marketeering as a solution to force in this one....hmmm....
hold on it wasnt free market that killed the big monopolies...it was legislation...
uhuh and that's why the supermajors/Big Oil are
BP (originally a state owned company but shortly after its privatization merged with Amoco, originally the Standard Oil Company of Indiana)
Royal Dutch Shell (merger of Shell and the Royal Dutch Oil Company)
Chevron (use to be Standard Oil Company of California)
ExxonMobil (merge of Exxon, used to be Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and Mobile, use to be Standard Oil Company of New York)
ConocoPhillips (use to be a part of Standard Oil but became independent after its dissolution)
TotalEnergies (only real outlier and are a French company formed after WWI)
These 6 make the vast majority of the revenue from oil and own the majority of the petroleum reservoirs, and all of these are formed from or from parts of the original 3 monopolies in this video (except TotalEnergies). You can also notice a trend as these companies continue to merge further and further Basically reforming a lot of what was Standard Oil The only 2 exceptions not listed are 2 Chinese state owned companies who do make more then any of these companies but are again state owned entities and are as a result an extension of the government.
opposite, the free market is the only thing that can kill a monopoly, and legislation is the only thing that can create a monopoly, it doesn't matter the size.
Yeah but how we deal with climate? The free market is not packing punches there.
