Get a good sleep and eat an hour before your test. This will help keep up your energy levels which will help to cope with the stress. Keep saying to yourself, I can do this. If you get the shakes start to take three to four deep breaths, then repeat. Good luck.
I can’t thank you enough! Where do I start?! From your calm tone, to your advice and amazing knowledge on driving, everything you’ve ever posted has helped me so much. It’s all been leading up to today when I passed with only 4 minors. I took your advice and ploughed through even when I thought I had failed. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your students are truly lucky. I’ll still stay tuned in to your channel as you’ve helped me in many ways, not just with driving but also confidence in myself. And as a new driver I’m still learning every day.
Thank you for that, James. I've been really fretting about my test next week as I don't like not knowing what to expect, but you've explained it all calmly and clearly and it's been really helpful. I feel much better now :)
ive only had 2 official driving lessons in my life, both a few years back but with the help of your videos i passed my driving test today with only 3 minors, 2 of which were a bit harsh imo !! cant thank you enough as your videos helped me more than i could ever have imagined. if anyone is hoping to pass their test then james travis is the man to help whether in person or via his spot on videos. the man knows what hes talking about and you CAN trust in what he says. thank you James
I have my test in 2 week its coming closer getting me more stressed been watching all of your videos every single day, really useful and helpful good channel, subscribed! Keep up the good work!
Hey Travis, I've just passed my driving test and feel incredibly pleased. Thank you for your videos - they've been extremely helpful over the past few months as I've watched them many times in-between lessons. You're a legend. Rob
SUPER HELPFULL. My driving test went pretty much word for word as James points out in this video! A helpfull tip i used myself was to spend the entire test as if i had already failed (sounds silly i know) it helped me relax and just enjoy the test more and focus on driving, and as james points out in the video, just be slightly more cautious than you would usually be when out driving, they are looking for you exercising the skills you have to keep yourself and other road users SAFE. if you stall or something goes wrong with the car like the wrong gear, just stop. chillout. refocus. restart. EDIT: Passed with 10 minors (whoops) I was being over cautious! Had to retry a parralel park without being asked and i was commended for realising i didnt have enough room, dont worry about fixing your mistakes!
hi James I just wanted to say thank you very much for your help with the video's I passed my driving test today first time with 14 hours with an instructor and some driving in my own car so thanks again for your help
Tomorrow is the third driving test I willl have taken in my life (now aged 54). First test when I was 17 in UK, second test when I moved to New York, USA when was 35, now moved to Channel Islands and am taking my third test. I am the most nervous for the test tomorrow because if I fail it will be as if I am a complete novice, when I have experience of driving in New York City and in all kinds of weather, even feet of snow. Only accidents have had were when others drove into the back of my car. Your videos are very helpful and you are a very calming and encouraging instructor, so thank you.
Hi, just wanted to give you a huge thank you, you have helped me so much. Just before my test today, I sat and watched this. I PASSED FIRST TIME THANKS!!!!
Great advice thank you 👍 I'm learning to drive soon at the end of July here, nerves are sky high, I haven't drove before, I watch other videos on UA-cam glad I came across your channel, I liked and subscribed
I watched alot of your videos last night and it really helped. I had my driving test this morning and I'm pleased to say I passed first time. Thank you so much!
I remember the day before my first test I watched all these videos religiously, unfortunately failed on my reverse round a corner for being too wide with 6 minors and one major. Watched these religiously second time and passed with 1 minor. Now I’m 7 months into my r plates (resident in NI). These videos along with my own driving instructor couldn’t have helped me more
You are superb. I want every learner drivers to watch your videos. Your videos are just fabulous. I passed my test today with just three minors at first go. Your videos helped me a lot. Thank you ! Thumbs up
So sad! Everything went great until the last 5 minutes of the test. I changed the lane too late and apparently I forced the following Driver to slow down. So it was a serious fault. And guess what? I only had 4 driving faults. That means I would have passed. Poor me! Anyway, I booked again. Hope it will ok second time.
I’m in Milton Keynes and I’m within the Bradville area so the fact that the test centre is in Bletchley has always petrified me, but watching all your videos has really helped. Booking my lessons again this week! Hopefully I can pass before my theory runs out in December 😅
When I passed my test, there was an unusual start, the examiner said, “Ok when your ready, let’s move off.” He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and I had to tell him to put it on. I was wondering does that happen often, is it part of the test?
I failed 2 times and i had my third test today ~ guess what? I passed. I’m so hyped and I really thank u for all the vids and tips. Love from Norway 🇳🇴
Thanks watched you’re video today and had my test passed first time, best advice go slow and drink water before as you’re mouth will be dry and keep calm as possible look about all the time
Hello bro thank you for your video’s they are absolutely brilliant. I watched this video last night and had my practical test today and passed with 4 minors. Bless bro 👊🏾💯
hi James, my son and I keep watching your videos and they are honestly so useful and well explained. His driving test is on Tuesday 2 May at 8-05. I am not sure if you can answer this question but I wanted to ask from your experience, do you know what test route they are most likely to take him on at that time of the morning? I am sure he has done everything with his instructor and he had lots of lessons but his nerves are dreading me, he failed 3 times but honestly all 3 times I was saying he was not ready, but his instructor still put him through this, which was wrong I think. I go with him every weekend for a couple of hours so I thought I ask you this, as we still have today-tomorrow for a final practice , I would spend more time going over these routes which he is more likely to get. If you can't answer this thats OK too. Thank you in advance. x
+Lara Martin. Hi, I don't know which route. But I have been told the examiner will take the pupils on routes that are flowing rather than sitting in traffic. I would expect then to avoid the b & q area at that time but go down to the back of Bletchley town centre via under the railway tunnel. Then head over to fenny, through the double mini roundabout and across to Simpson and then back to Mk via Neitherfield and past the hospital. This is just one way.
OK thank you! sounds like a route Ni 5 on your video selection. Thanks again. If he doesn't pass I think he will try to approach you as he is watching your videos and said the way you speak makes you feel comfortable, which is true - even for me with 17 years of experience...Thanks again
Found your videos only acouple of days ago...I have my test in a few hours and I'm so nervous...I'm 34 and been driving for 9 months...so far I've done 6 mock test (passed 3) .i find your videos helpful ,I will let you know how I get on.
Learn-to-drive Travis I passed my test,1st attempt, with 5 minors........i was so shocked I cryed ,I was so sure I would fail....thanks for your advice and keep up the good videos
Any advise on having your driving instructor in the back of the car? I'm quite a nervous person so Im not sure if I would feel comfortable getting in the car with a complete stranger e.g the examiner I think I would panic and get really anxious. On the other hand somebody told me my instructor told me that the examiner is more likely to mark you down for things because the instructor is in the back. I'm not sure what to do? Although having two people watching me might feel hirendous.
Vogue Girl that's a great question. Firstly the examiner will not mark you more harshly if you ask to have your instructor in the back of your car on the test. They are professionals and are required to be consistent with the marking and to be fair. Why don't you ask your instructor to have a friend in the back of your driving lesson for the first 10 minutes to get a feel of what it is like having someone else in your car. It can help you cope with nerves.
+Sophie Laureen it's one of them towns where you have to be good at meeting traffic and road signs. Lots of slow roads with lots of zebra crossings. I would recommend you visiting the area to have a drive round. I think the pass rate is around 45% which is below average. Good luck with your test.
Hi James, my son failed his test because of nerves. He had plenty of lessons and his driving is generally good, its purely nerves, hesitation and silly errors like indicating left when going right...He re-booked for 24th May at 8-10, so we wanted to ask you if you would agree to take him on for a few lessons - the way you talk seems to be very calming and would be ideal for him. It is such a shame to fail because of the nerves when in general driving is not bad. Is there any way to contact you not via public comments? Thank you in advance.
A tip for anybody taking their test: I pay £22 an hour with my instructor. I went ahead and booked my test for £63 a little while ago as I had everything prepared and I was confident for the test BUT a week before my test day, as I was finishing up on a driving lesson with my instructor, he informed me that I would have to pay him £44 for the hour before the test AS WELL as the hour during the test, when he relaxes (as I don't want him in the car with me during my test). Just giving people a heads up that this may or may not happen but be prepared.
Hi Danny, that's a good comment. Most instructors will inform their pupil that they will charge for the hire of the car on the test. Sounds like your instructor did not. But a good point to bring to the attention of everybody.
What do you mean by when he relaxes (as I don't want him in the car with me during my test). Isn't that what you pay an instructor to do? to be with you in the car to make sure you're driving correctly, also if you paid £63 for the test why is he getting you to pay for him, and you paid an hour before and during the test? seems like a lot to take in, why all these payments when you already paid? seems a bit much by the sounds of it, just curious thanks for the heads up anyway, cheers.
Hi, the £63 is for the DVSA examiner to assess your driving for 40 minutes. If you are using an instructor car then you will probably have to pay that instructor for that time.
oh I think I get it now, so you're paying for the instructor, and for the hiring of the car and the time the car is being used, so you're basically paying for both? thanks for the response mate, good videos :)
Got my test in a couple of days 😭 failed it first time with 3 minors and failed on not following the 2 second rule for long enough 💔 hopefully I pass this time!! 🍀
hey Mr. Travis. ur videos are really helpful. I'm going again for my test week after next. the first time I had everything good until I was told to back up and I did but without looking physically back more than 20%. didn't pass because of it but im looking forward to passing it the next time round. any tips?
Thank you for your kind comments. Lots of people on the driving tests fail for observations. Sounds like you have it all under wraps. My only tip would be lots of people feel the pressure more on the second test. Just remember to drive like normal and if you are going to move off, forwards or backwards, look round. Best of luck on your test.
+James Travis ayyyyy ahem...I passed Mr.Travis followed the rules of the road, backed up as I was looking and looking over my shoulder for a humane look of the road! yeeeah!!
I passed my test on Thursday, and watching your videos was a big thing of that so thank you, but I have been looking since Thursday for insurance and can't find one that is reasonable, it got a Ford Fiesta ztec 1.2, do you recommend any sites at all, I'm 19

hi James, on my last lesson I had some issues with my manoeuvres. I'm just needing help on know which manoeuvre is a half turn of the steering wheel or have I got it all wrong and all manoeuvres required a full lock of the steering wheel?
Hi, a good question. A lot would depend on what your instructor is teaching you. What I do is Bay parking is full lock on then full lock off as you are getting straight. Left reverse is one full turn on to left and when time is right one full turn to right. Watch my video on turn to the left on driving test, step by step. Reverse park would depend on what you are being shown, some use full lock , I use one full turn. Turn in road is full lock each time. Hope that helps.
+Kayla Cockburn the secret with manoeuvres is keeping the clutch low to go slow. That will give you time to decide on what to do. You properly know that you can always do a shunt if things go wrong. Good luck with driving test and keep watching.
+James Travis sorry to bother you again. My driving instructor used the RED driving school diagram to show me the parrell parking. Would you happen to know if that is a full lock of the steering wheel to parrell park?
+Kayla Cockburn I am happy to answer your questions. I don't know which way your instructor is teaching you. It could be full lock left at a point where your car becomes level( say the wing mirror). Then full lock right to bring it in. Sorry I could not help you with this question.
Watch this next!

All my videos are based in Milton Keynes so watching them will help you. You might even recognise places in the videos.
Learn-to-drive Travis yes recognised all of them! Thankyou so much. Really unselfish informative videos 😃
When I passed my test, there was an unusual start, the examiner said, “Ok when your ready, let’s move off.” He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and I had to tell him to put it on. I was wondering does that happen often, is it part of the test?
That’s not part of the test
Happened to me as well. I waited for them to put it on and then they just gave me an odd look because I didn't set off straight away when they asked.
TempestSlayer that’s really odd. That’s bad on their part
Mines tomorrow!!!

+Sophie Laureen it's one of them towns where you have to be good at meeting traffic and road signs. Lots of slow roads with lots of zebra crossings. I would recommend you visiting the area to have a drive round. I think the pass rate is around 45% which is below average. Good luck with your test.
Learn-to-drive Travis Thankyou, yes I have been having my lessons there. Hopefully I'll be okay.thankyou
Good luck on your driving test
In America you can drive their cars at a driving school
That’s an interesting way of learning
Hi James, my son failed his test because of nerves. He had plenty of lessons and his driving is generally good, its purely nerves, hesitation and silly errors like indicating left when going right...He re-booked for 24th May at 8-10, so we wanted to ask you if you would agree to take him on for a few lessons - the way you talk seems to be very calming and would be ideal for him. It is such a shame to fail because of the nerves when in general driving is not bad. Is there any way to contact you not via public comments? Thank you in advance.
+Lara Martin hi, sorry to hear.
This is my website www.drive-travis.co.uk
You can see my number and contact info on there.

+innocent mashego good luck
My test is at 1:45 in Yeovil, any idea what kinda traffic I should expect?
+Valentino Zoboli steady at that time. Good luck
Thanks, your video's are incredible helpful!
Passed my driving test today!! Your videos were really helpful
+Louise Macardle congratulations on passing. Safe driving
A tip for anybody taking their test:
I pay £22 an hour with my instructor.
Good luck on your next
hey Mr. Travis. ur videos are really helpful.

+James Travis ayyyyy ahem...I passed Mr.Travis followed the rules of the road, backed up as I was looking and looking over my shoulder for a humane look of the road! yeeeah!!
+Mali IsAdOrABlE excellent result. Be safe on the roads.

hi James, on my last lesson I had some issues with my manoeuvres. I'm just needing help on know which manoeuvre is a half turn of the steering wheel or have I got it all wrong and all manoeuvres required a full lock of the steering wheel?
Hi, a good question. A lot would depend on what your instructor is teaching you.
What I do is
Bay parking is full lock on then full lock off as you are getting straight.
Left reverse is one full turn on to left and when time is right one full turn to right. Watch my video on turn to the left on driving test, step by step.
Reverse park would depend on what you are being shown, some use full lock , I use one full turn.
Turn in road is full lock each time.
Hope that helps.
+James Travis Thank you very much, I have my test on the 8th of May and I wasn't doing well on my manoeuvres this week.
Nice scarf..
Driving test tomorrow morning 🙏
Good luck
