    5:20 The BIOS boot menu is accessed before Windows, which is that White-On-Black background with the motherboard info you see for a couple seconds whenever your PC starts up. It shows the keys to access the boot menu, which depends on each manufacturer.
    6:50 Something very important that wasn't explained here is that the reset applies to the "Hard Drive BBS Priorities", which means that if you boot from your SSD, you'll have to make it the first priority or else you get a boot\cmd error!
    Please pin this, because this was a serious problem I experienced!

    A word of advice to new computer users. There is always a risk when updating bios. Especially if you do not have good solid troubleshooting and general knowledge. If a bios update fails it can turn your mainboard into a boat anchor. Use caution while doing this and if you are not confident, take the machine into a well known shop and have them do it. Cheers

    I remember recently when I was fixing up an ultra cheap gaming PC for older games. I had this one PC that was given to me that had an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ cpu with 3 gb ddr2 ram and a GTX 285. Well, I was able to buy a quad core AMD Phenom x4 9650 for like $6.00 and at first when I installed it, the PC wouldn't boot or do anything, so then I figured to myself that I needed to update the motherboard BIOS to something a little more recent and its motherboard is an ASUS M2N-E. I then put the old cpu back in, updated the BIOS, then installed the quad core Phenom and now it seems to be working fine. I have it set up to where it dual-boots Windows 10 with Windows XP and both work fine on it. For gaming, it seems to handle any 3d games made up until 2011 to 2012.

    Along with checking to see if the XMP setting was changed, you might want to check the CPU clock(all cores turbo) settings after a BIOS update too. But I guess that depends on the motherboard's characteristics/manufacturer. Updating BIOS from Windows makes me nervous btw...I prefer to keep it at the mobo level process...

    So....I built my PC in August 2018...updated my Bios in early February and two days later I got BSOD for the first time ever and finally no display was coming up. I never knew as a new PC enthusiast what possible outcomes updating the Bios could do. Still trouble shooting but so far I know my CPU went bad, motherboard, even my new motherboard i bought (bad luck there) and although my RAM worked on a repair shop test rig in pairs I feel it might not be at 100 percent either. It had to be the Bios update because my system ran fine for months before. I would have to say don't upgrade it if your computer is working fine. Thats what everyone told me since they have heard all the horror stories of bad updates reslly screwing stuff up. I might go from 8700k to 9700k with my z370 mobo whenever that gets fixed but yea it has not been fun. :(

      Same, my Z170 motherboard is lack Kaby Lake support, and no point in update, even the Spectre/Meltdown issue, I suspect that it's usually business side. I still don't understand why OC motherboard has this back-up BIOS feature, or expect that we buy their respective BIOS external flash to reflash a bricked motherboard.

      If you are weary of BIOS updates, check them on forums and see what people have said. On my ryzen board, haven't had issues yet. But I always check regardless. Pop your CMOS battery out to clear BIOS. Hope that helps.

    • @nikthequick9688
      @nikthequick9688 5 років тому

      @@Soundsaboutright42 trust me i have done every troubleshoot possible including clearing the CMOS battery. The cpu died since i bought a new one to test and then i found out the board ram slots also went bad. So thats why idk if my RAM is 100 pe percent ok or not.
      Also my original board was an asus z370 e gaming. I didnt read that warning anywhere or didn't see it but i saw it somewhere after. Also my cpu was never OC just RAM with xmp profile. Again no major issues but my rgb wasn't working together well and some lag in videogames but apparently Bios has no effect

    It’s good to mention that the bios updates use a roll up method, so it’s not required to update every file between your version and the latest version. Believe it or not some people don’t realize this.

    • @dzcasanova8840
      @dzcasanova8840 2 роки тому +1

      So you should install the newest versions or or choosing one in between before updating to the last one ?

    • @Markinpuff
      @Markinpuff 2 роки тому +1

      @@dzcasanova8840 There are some cases where this is required. Look at the bios version comments above yours, see if an intermediary update is necessary. This does happen. In some cases the system will not allow you to update because of this possible mismatch. I had an Asus board fail to even acknowledge the bios update on the usb drive after selecting it. It only did when I updated 2-3 updates above the current version. This happens because of microcode updates and /or bios utility updates.

    • @dzcasanova8840
      @dzcasanova8840 2 роки тому

      @@Markinpuff ahhh I see , and is there a solution if you fail updating your bios somehow , a plan B or at least come back the previous or original version , or is it all a risky thing ?

    • @Markinpuff
      @Markinpuff 2 роки тому +1

      @@dzcasanova8840 Well, if you attempt to update and the system say loses power in the middle of the update then that can theoretically brick your motherboard. That’s dependent on if you’re motherboard has Duel-bios and/or a flashback features. But today’s motherboards will reject invalid bios files or resort to a default bios if something goes wrong. Don’t worry about it. I personally always use a UPS and keep my area secure from power loss. Don’t use the internet flash option, just stick with a usb drive as the bios source. Remember to unzip the bios file and put that unzipped file on the board only. Keep it simple if you’re new to this..

      No I have the same and I wouldn't recommend it. Even mobo manufacturers say on their sites they don't recommend updating bios if your system is working fine. So outside of some major security flaw or bug being discovered and an update for it being released I wouldn't update as it can be risky.

      there might be an update and it normally makes a difference - also some motherboards can be years out of date

    What about the settings?
    1. Will windows drivers i.e. sound, graphic, WLAN etc will also need to be installed again?
    2. Will the liquid cooler settings get disturbed by bios update? (Will fan, liquid pump, and other cooling speed settings need to be set again? if YES then where can one find the exact settings again)
    3. Will processor threading setting get affected? (Will this need to be set again?)
    4. All other little setting scroll down bars in the bios IDE will also need to be set again?
    Nice video but, Unfortunately, you just simply mentioned re-apply settings and did not go to most important details of the process which plays a big part in fear of breaking the PC and keeps quite a few of us people from updating our bios. Specialty when your video title mentions the word safety.
    I am not criticizing, instead I am interested in updating my bios, and I was looking for solid information about above-mentioned questions, and unfortunately, your video was not helofull enough for me.

    I know this stuff (like many of us in this channel), but it is so pleasant to hear this guy talk: coherent, no slur, logical line of thought, clear sentences, even in his ramble videos. He should work as university lecturer, because OH BOY some people there need to learn to talk... I live in a country where nobody can communicate and talk, yet they get angry when someone can't understand them. Especially in wok environment. You need to be able to understand and do things from a get go and people hate questions here. Sucks to live in a post-soviet country.

    Big thanks man. I've always been scared to update my bios but I have no choice at the moment, just installed an nvme m.2 & there's clearly some issues across the board & I've been told bios update will cure more than half. Still nervous but at least now a decent tutorial. Plus it's it's a cyberpower with an asrock board so that makes it feel more comfortable

    I remember upgrading from a r5 1400 to a r5 2600 and I put the new CPU in and nearly shit myself when it didn’t boot. Then I realized that I had to update the MB bios in order to get it to support the cpu. That was a super stressful moment lol. I was/am new at PC building so I was just a little nervous to begin with and that didn’t really help haha

    Do you have to put the USB stick in a specific USB port on all motherboards, or just some ? I have not bought a new motherboard in 5 years, and that one was an older model. So I am still using something from the 2012 era. I can't remember if I ever updated the BIOS, but if I did it has been 4 years. Finding spare time ( even 5 minutes these days, seems to take an Act of Congress ).
