Such a monolith of folk music...just saw "River" performed on The Voice and it was such a joy to hear, and it's amazing for folk music to have such a long reach into the pop scene.

Brandi deserves some credit for Joni's recovery. She's been there for her.
In the past Joni has stated how much she HATES the term "confessional songwriter." I'm surprised Ms. Carlile doesn't know that.
Well, age has a way of mellowing people out, and Joni has had enough health issues that I'm sure her perspective has changed as of late. Brandi is a friend, I'm sure she wouldn't speak out of turn ;-)
Should we nitpick a heartfelt statement made by Brandi? I’m certain Joni doesn’t deny her friend a “confessional” tribute to the impact her songs made on this performer’s life. 😊

"Hollywood" didn't choose, Joni did. They are close friends.
