Baby's Heart Transplant Makes Medical History

- Easton had open heart surgery at just 5 days old because he was born with a condition that left him with only one half of a functioning heart. The baby also had damaged thymus, making his condition even more serious. Researchers at Duke University got FDA authorization to perform a first-of-its-kind surgery on Easton, transplanting both a heart and tissue from the donor’s thymus. Inside Edition Digital has more.
Thank you to the donor and the donor's family. That child is an angel.
Exactly, thank you for helping another baby live.
Well you still pay the hospital for most of the organs even if harvested from a donor. Like I could die you take my heart and then re-sell it to a person on the list at the same hospital
@@MrKasa1989 and they harvested the Baby’s skin, placenta and foreskin to make beauty and medical products that only help severely immune compromised or elderly elite
@@cheesedoesgaming6088 the organ isn't what you pay for. It's the tests and dr hours that you're paying for, not the organ.
Up next: the child ends up on the top of a Mayan pyramid in an ancient religious ritual and the heart is now free again!
As a woman that lost a newborn because of unknown heart defects present at birth this is amazing!!! I wish they had this option at the time for my son definitely life changing for this family what a blessing glad baby is doing good 💚 praying for this family as they move forward on this journey
@Alexis Heartless
Wow. I'm so sorry for your loss. Every time there's a break though like this, I'm like, "FINALLY!!!!" The world has been waiting!
I'm soo sorry for your loss..not sure what to say to you but I felt bad reading your comment and not stopping to say something.. thank you for having the strength to share with us such a personal experience.. again I'm sorry for your loss.
Oh I'm so sorry for your loss
I'm amazed by this it's thing like this that give me hope that believing in each other can literally save lives. This surgery was once only the idea of one person but everyone trusted his idea and science and because of it things like this can happen. It's amazing and shows there's a reason to learn and to go for those ideas in your head
Wishing you an amazing life Easton!!! I'm a donor's Mom , my sons heart went to a 6 week old baby boy. Please continue to keep your story out there to bring awareness....no child should have to suffer or pass. ✌️💜✌️💜✌️💜✌️💜💙💚
I'm sorry for your loss and thank you to your son and your for doing some so amazing and beautiful 🙏
This is incredible!
Just pure...a huge milestone for the medical world!
Lots of love to Easton and Family❤
We did it
as a Nurse in NICU... everyday I witness a miracle of babies fighting.and surviving their hard conditions...I am so thankful that I am in this profession to witness this wonderful thing in their lives...
Thank you for ALL the great work you do as a NICU nurse! It is truly a selfless job. God bless you.
Thats cool!
Bless you
I'm glad it's having success the surgery and he's getting stronger.. I'm sending my prayers to him and his loved ones.
It means his donor was also a little angel 🥺
Yet almost everyone is only talking about the surviving baby, not the baby who made this possible and is gone for good.
@@lieselotmauroo9808 we lost a real one that day
thank you to the donor and their family for making the decision to donate.
I started crying when he said “He was out here for a reason. We talked about it and maybe he was a donor for another kid.” It’s just one of those situations where you gotta put your faith in God and the medical staff.
Gotta put you faith in God? Nah, that’s obviously nothing but a waste of time.
@@Tat2Dragons facts g, big waste a time.
Well I’m glad you guys can put your personal opinions here. But it would seem more people agree with me.
@@devildiamonddog9052 but what was the point of your comment? To tell a bunch of people who believe in God that they’re wrong.
So very glad they get to have their lil guy still with them. This pulled a heart string w/me. Reminding me of a funeral for a friend/coworker's newborn. Nothing more painful or nightmarish than what I saw. Praying for this lil guy an all the babies.
No child ever deserves this and no parent should ever have to feel like this. I pray for ppl with a child battling some type of medical crisis. 💜
OMG he is a survivor and a medical Marvel.
I wish the only best things for him and his family. Grow up little one
He reminds me of my daughter, she was born 09/2021 with atresia of the heart and tricuspid of the heart. But she had a bypass and GLENN procedure.
Hope he gets steadily better!
I hope that your precious daughter is doing better and is thriving today. 🙏🏼💜
Lies again? Harvard Heart
that’s how my little brother died 11 years ago, I’m so happy that there is somebody who successfully overcame this condition!!!
Let's pray the little guy's operation is good for the long run.
Or not, the results will be the same.
@@Tat2Dragons depends
@@kermit7326 I don’t think it does, because there’s no evidence that prayers have any influence on the outcome.
Thank you to the incredible doctors ❤️
yesss!
and the donors 🥰
Praying Easton is still doing well, thriving. Bless and keep him, dear Lord. 🙏🏻❤️
Actually, it's the medical people who helped him live. Asking god to bless and keep him is really weird: god did not see fit to bless and keep the baby whose heart was used.
Thank you science, I don't think people understand how far we have come in medical science.
When I was born, the doctors told my parents to kiss me goodbye, that I wasn't going to make it. It was my heart too. But miraculously, my heart healed and I'm 47 now. It ain't over until God says it is. God bless this baby and their family. I am so happy for them! 💖
It ain’t over until God says it is? Oh get real!
@@Tat2Dragons Don’t judge folks because they believe in GOD! It’s not nice 😒. Just because you don’t believe in him doesn’t mean you can bash those that do 🙄😒
@@koriwaldrip7426 that’s straight mental and worthy of ridicule
@@koriwaldrip7426 I don’t care if it’s not nice. I will definitely continue to judge people for their beliefs. Who says I can’t bash others for having those beliefs? I’ll do whatever I want to.
@@Tat2Dragons Oh really? You'll do whatever you want? I'm in Brunei and you're more than welcome to come and "bash" the Sultan and the Imam about their beliefs. Let's see how you fare champ!! Dare??
OMG Thankyou to all the people and medical staff who saved this Beautiful Baby’s life Absolutely Amazing an Actual Miracle!!!!!! 💯🖤🇳🇿🤙
This could go far in preventing organ rejection, I hope. Amazing they can put a section of a gland in another anatomical site and it still does the job.
Prayers he lives a happy, healthy life🙏🏼🙏🏼
He’s definitely going down in history, and nobody is saying otherwise
I am
Thank you to the donor family and for the medical team for saving this life!!
We should take note that someone lost a baby for him to receive that heart. Rip ❤️
This sweet baby boy went through such a momentous journey already in his short life that most of us couldn't even fathom. I'm so glad he's doing okay and I hope he lives a long, wonderful and fulfilling life💜
Omg this poor family, having to watch your new born go through this is unthinkable. I’m glad he’s doing well.
angels happy baby glad he doesn't have to take harsh meds his heart can last 40 years
On a time of science denial, one more example that we live in times that so much is possible in medical care.
Thanks donor, great job doctors and medical staffs. God bless baby.
Not religious myself but I do appreciate how some religious folks think; 0:18 is heartbreaking but very, very touching. Glad Easton is recovering well. It seems that he will grow up with some incredibly loving parents, who I'm sure will cherish this precious life that was already undergone so much.
Not that it matters, I don’t appreciate it, I think it’s a stupid saying.
This is wonderful! I had no idea that the thymus was something that could be saved. My best friend had to have her thymus removed because of a large tumour attached to it. They told her that it would take 5ish years off of her lifespan. This child is a gift, and I feel that they have many, many decades of life in front of them to enjoy!
God bless the little baby and his family! I pray for healing and longevity.
I’m praying for his life 🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Welcome to the world little man! Sorry your beginning was so rough, hopefully your life from now on will be healthy & joyous.
A full-hearted story for a half-hearted boy

i hope the baby will live a long and happy life! god will be with you Easton! 🌠
send your prayers y'all
God will be with you? lol 🤣
Cute little guy is gonna grow up not only knowing he survived heart surgery but also made a mark in people's hearts on UA-cam 😭❤️
As someone born with plyoric stenosis and going under the knife at 2 weeks old and seeing multiple docters that told my mom i was going to die i could imagine how these parents felt/feel about they're baby.
Im just glad that he's recovering fast.
I had three open heart surgeries and they thought I wasn’t going to make it. I had to get another valve in me. I’m glad you survived though!
Bless him ! He is here for a reason ! Seeing him hooked up to all that equipment broke my heart but now look at him ❤️ such a miracle !
This video is the most beautifully thing i’ve seen today. This baby is a warrior and the donator is a very good person🥺❤️
praying for a speedy recovery, little guy 🤍🤍
lots of love to the Easton and Family! absolutely a survivor ❤️❤️
Im so glad he made it he's so cute it's not even right. This is why we never give up on our dreams, this surgery started as an idea and ended with this result.
The bravest baby! ♥️ I hope life continues to bless him!
this is amazing!!! I had a heart transplant at 6 six months old and the anti rejection medicine is very harsh with its side effects. I really hope this will be a giant step forward for other transplant patents.
Please keep us posted on him in future updates... Glad that he is doing well....
GLAD HES OK SUCH A CUTE LIL BABY ❤️❤️❤️❤️
YOUR A STRONG LITTLE DUDE
I'm so happy for him and his family!
Thank God for those doctors he's so adorable Easton's doctor deserves many blessings

Major props for the surgeon and the team.
Doing a brand new type of organ replacement surgery on such tiny thing.
Crazy
Thank you to all the doctors and scientists that make treatments like this possible ❤❤❤
My little brother died at 11 days old in 1990 bcuz he was born with hypo plastic left heart syndrome, we lived in new York at the time. Had to fly to Maine where the Dr that was gonna do the procedure was, God needed him back for some reason though. I'm really happy to hear that there has been medical advances made in regards to this defect. God bless this little one and his family.
So beautiful. May he live a happy, healthy and blessed life. ♡ Newcastle upon Tyne England.
Prayers for this baby
Thank you to the donor 🙏🙏
Thank God he has that little sister. She looks very interested in him, and she will guide him through the milestones.
Beautiful baby boy I’m so happy you made it thru!!!!

Sweet little thing God bless the child.

This is incredible. I hope he makes a full recovery and lives a long life. ❤️🩹
if easton was born less then 4 years ago he would have been even remotely lucky to survive past a month, hes now a healthy active two year old
i wish you health, Baby Easton!
May the rest of his life be long, healthy and happy!
I hope the baby grows healthy and well!!!
0:08 My little man’s looks like a cabbage patch kid 😂😂😂😂😂
So happy for your family!
God bless these doctors ❣And little Easton and his family too.

Poor little guy 😥 brakes my heart seeing kids hurt like this
What a little angel. I hope he will have a full healthy fulfilling life 💓
Hey baby Easton this is 18 year old Easton from Canada. Amazing story
This made my day… Love you Easton
I have a great appreciation for heart surgeons. I know of the cardiac surgeon who brought the heart and lung machine we have today. He was a world renowned cardiologist and he had performed a surgery nobody had done before with a heart valve. He's an example to me of a well rounded person, a person with integrity in his home life and work life. As he has 10 kids. My friend also had a heart transplant and seeing her today has made me so happy that shes still here. Parents want kids to do trades only today and get surprised at these things. Dont tell you kids what jobs they should do. Your kid could be the next heart surgeon saving lives, but you're too busy telling them that university isn't important and only do a trade...
Trades? That's rare thing to hear. I always keep hearing relatives to go to college then trades.
I am glad that baby Easton is okay 🤗
Bless this baby
So happy to hear that.
Hope little buddy makes a speedy recovery :D
Thank you to the donor for saving the life of this young child ❤❤❤
He's one adorable lucky little baby boy.
Wow! my mom had the same thing and also made local hospitals suprised!
You go lil man. Live it up.
What a start to a life.. Hopefully the heart sustains him throughout life
He's so cute! Glad he's okay! 🙏
oh..man God Bless this family! sooo hard to see baby with all the medical equipment/tubes on their body.
