Have you ever raided in either Retail or Classic and realised how much of a mess it is and wanted to go back to do some raiding in the alternative option, but then you also realised that that is also a total mess but in generally different aspects? Yea. That's just how raiding is and in this video I'm taking a few scenarios from both retail and classic and then comparing them.
But yea sorry about the lack of uploads the past month! I wasn't feeling too great and it didn't help that I planned this video kind of poorly so it turned out a lot longer than I expected haha! But I just wanted to make 1 more Classic WoW related video before I turn my attention primarily towards Retail, especially since Shadowlands is just around the corner. I also thought that I hadn't done one of these Classic VS Retail videos in a long while, so I thought it's a good opportunity for that.

Technically, classic raids had about the same depth to it (for its' time). The only difference being you had to find them out via trial and error. And an error meant a restart.
The giving gear to raidbosses girlfriend brings back memories of utter rage.
I rather have personal loot than the players in charge doing what they want with the loot.
@@vindico8231 Thats one thing I do not miss. The running the dungeon 20+ times to see what you want dropped only for someone who does not wear mail/leather etc to need. Then watch as they disenchant.

I had something similar happen. I was last in line for the obsidian edged blade from MC as the guild had a lot of warriors and I was the newest. The other warriors finally all had it so I thought I might finally get it. For context, it was typical to bring people in for bosses that were "on farm" to gear them up, then swap them out. Instead, they put me on standby and took 5 warriors who didn't need anything from those bosses. It of course dropped and they gave it to a hunter. Never did get it. Was stuck with icy barbed spear until I got TUF from AV. I was even in a video of one of the guild's early Ragnaros kills with that spear.

Ugh hate anything that is not well done, because I hate seeing red meat in the middle of steak. You know that meat that is not cooked properly can give ya all kinds of intestinal diseases. Learned that the hard way :|

Give the dude a break. He only had 2 hours to get ready. Some bufs had to be cut out if he was gonna make it.
Didn't get ZG buff, got buffs in wrong order to maximize WCB and songflower, dwarf priests also must have been afk at the flight path songflower because he didn't get dispelled, 1/10 video would not watch again.
@Mat 11 Those underleveled people in greens have been downing overtuned private server raids for the last 10 years. Your average joes can still wipe on it even in epic gear.

In Classic, the main obstacle to your victory isn't the boss.
It's the other players.
Classic is great for 30yo boomers such as myself that aren't very mechanically skilled, but have a lot of free time.

You ever wonder why EU dominates NA, when it comes to the hardcore WoW scene? It's because of the welfare systems that allows more people to just play WoW all day if they want to, and not go homeless/starve.

Ah the days where you'd get all your world buffs, show up on time, and explode because some Rogue showed up or the Priest would mind control you into the rest of his friends or into a hard to escape spot. I almost miss having to get a raid group just so enough of your raid maid it to the entrance safely.
Literally my favorite part of raiding in classic is the logistics of getting your raid there safely on a PvP server
@@matthewosterman9030 I guess some people just yearn for that second job, so they live out their fantasy playing classic. If you raid 4 times a week you have spend at least a whole day shift preparing for raids, what a joy indeed.

@@YAH93 Disgrace is a better word I think :D Kinda like Arthas vs Illidan remastered battle scene in WC3. I think the Black Empire could have easily had an entire expansion on it's own, but they don't even give us a proper ending cinematic, also with the stupides plot possible. I'd understand that they decided to cut it short so they could focus on Shadowlands, but seeing as we currently have the longest patch in history and a complete content drought, I'm not sure I'd believe it.
Maybe it'll be used for Blizzard themselves.

Honestly, every one of these had positive *and* negative aspects. For instance, the long preparation of Classic made flasks and food feel far more impactful than Retail, but losing them all to a potential gank looks like it would hurt, a lot.
first of all you wouldnt want to pop those food and potions buffs outside of the raid in classic anyway haha
@@MrAsiris23 you would need to bring the world buffs anyways. Although classic raids are so easy it doesn’t really make a difference, like a few minutes max lol

As an actual Derrick during vanilla through wotlk, part of the reason some died to mechanics is due to a mix of barely functioning PCs and low graphical settings.
Never experienced endgame in any expansions due not being able to fill any role other than paper weight or place holder.
I was playing on a potato in wrath and every time Mimiron fired a rocket during phase 2, my PC would lag until the rocket landed. Every time it was aimed at me I would die :(

@@Ya-zm1mr Our guild broke up shortly after TOC launched and I stopped raiding. I got a new computer about 6 months later and raided ICC the last few months of Wrath

Current retail mechanics, especially in Mythic raiding, can take a 15 min video to explain all the 456,962 mechanics that will be happening at the same time.
Such a great video! I miss classic raiding. There was a lot of team effort and collective preparation needed for the raids. The raids weren't really harder than Retail raids, but in hindsight it was awesome to prepare for those raids and work together as a guild instead of just logging in on raid day and logging off if you are done. Loot was also a lot more meaningful.

Pretty much ,depending on which boss and which difficulty you play, some bosses can be pretty simple or require insane group coordination and perfect timing of mechanics or else the entire raid wipes.
@@nejiiuyn I've only played classic raids so far. I remember first coming into raids i was kinda nervous i would fuck my guild over, but its waaaay more simple than i thought. Kinda hoped for a little more challenge tbh. Maybe naxx will give some?

I miss the loot rain, while you couldn't guarantee what you got was an upgrade, it at least let you farm for pieces a lot better and easier compare to SL's.

Basically: vanilla raids werent hard, we just all sucked monkeyballs and it cost a lot of money.

The whole bit at the end... is me.. 100%... only with BOOTS. All I get from the M+ chests each week is BOOTS and every so often gloves. Raids? Gold.. every single boss... gold. Or the same item I got several weeks past. Makes gearing up and boosting your ILV a royal pain in the ass... and then yeah you get that ONE lucky son of a who gets all his upgrades right off and its those lucky sods who end up moving on in progression while you're stuck sitting back glaring at 20+ sets of EFFING BOOTS. (not joking on the number! I started stuffing them in my bank to keep tabs! 23 sets of BOOTS)

ehh ..still liked classic raids more now that i tested some agen , lees bs dance motions and more just...boss can do these things....just stay cool listen and be ready as we find out how it goess this time..
vs the one time i where in a retail raid it basicly was ''oh right just follow the big colour coded dance motions around the room and win by deafult' XD
basicly.. classic felt like actual game play... retail felt more like something being contrived messed up just so you burn time regardless how good you are or well geared you are.
