Hello Captain Q and Randy!
Thank you for having visited and shown one of these truly beautiful boats!
Ferenc Maté also put the vindös on his much respected list of 100 best boats rightfully so.
I get the same feeling of actually being on a bigger boat on our vindö32.
My response for the pulpit question by the way would have been different though. I know the swedes mostly like to use the stern anchor and tie the bow onto one of their beautiful islands so the lower bend in the pulpit makes access over it easier.
Hope to meet you guys one day and walking the docks together sounds like it would be great fun:)
Aladino from SailingMagicCarpet
Hi Aladino! We absolutely adore your channel and spoke about it for days leading up to our little tour of this lovely Vindö. They made such a specially crafted piece of art... and you were smart to bring yours back to life. Thanks for the tip on the pulpit... we always have something new to learn in sailing! A walk on the docks sounds great... and let us know if you swing over to the US after Covid and want to head out for a sail. Cheers and keep up the inspiring work!
As. Swede. Ure absolutly right. We tie up to naturehabours in the skerries. (Usally rock part on a iland)
Stern poking inwards with a sternachor.
On the Vindö hulls. They were laminated lockally. Loyds certification was a selling point back then.
Since they were early glasfiber hulls. They Where overbuilt. :)
This has quickly become one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Capt Q's knowledge and passion for sailboats is infectious.
One other commenter suggested doing tutorials if you run out of yachts to review, I echo this sentiment.
Well done guys, please keep the videos coming!
Cheers from Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks so much! We will be working to deliver on that great idea. Cheers!
@@YachtHunters I will second that motion, and add a request for tips on day sailing with a larger family.
Please keep up the great quality, content, and knowledge .. this channel came out of no where to becoming my most watched ...
Tutorials👍
Vindö 50 , ”50” is for the Square meter of the Sails it sails with !
Thanks for the insight! Makes sense!
As someone who is looking forward to buying a liveaboard in a few years, this channel is exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. So helpful to see such a wide variety of boats.
In the same boat!
@Eric Neubauer 😂
Count me in too! I'm retiring in 6 months and looking to spend my winters in warm climates. I'm learning so much from Cap'n Q and his insights.
no doubt
Agree, this channel is so helpful in my future purchase
This is why we watch UA-cam! Watching a master of life doing something he loves to do, insightful entertainment that teaches.
growing up in the north of germany, right at the baltic sea, those vindo's were everywhere. Brings back memories and always great to see european boats in north-america!
The tie in’s to the boats in previous reviews really made this review shine.
Agreed! Good point.
Thanks very much! We'll do more of that for sure...
Your knowledge, humor and observations are brilliant.
Thanks for the kind words! Cheres!
Proud Swede here. Lovely video. Captain Q is such a wonderful person.
You have much to be proud of.... this is such a lovely, well-crafted boat that is going to be 50 years old soon!
Love your channel - I am from Sweden
The Ö in the Vindö is Ö is similar to the English sound ‘i’ in the word ‘bird’. Or ‘u’ in the word ‘fur’. Or ‘ea’ in the word ‘heard’.
Love this boat.
Thanks for sharing! a lot more to learn ...not enough time...but thanks so much
@@YachtHunters Also, the camera man corrected you and said "glugg", glugg in Swedish means "aperture" haha.
Sm6wet above is correct with the pronunciation of the letter Ö (yes it's actually a letter in the Swedish alphabet.
@@YachtHunters Just trying to help you out. And anyone else reading as it is always nice to be able to pronounce somewhat correctly. There are other Swedish sailboat manufacturers which can be a bit difficult.
Example.
Vindö is not the only boat from Vindö, there is also Regina of Vindö - look it up, beautiful sailboats.
Malö is another one with the Ö
Winga - The W is a V-sound.
And Najad - First A is a fast a like in Andersson. Second A is a long one like as long as U in Uniform only with the a sound.
Vindeuh? Sounds like a window.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 The word "Vind" in Swedish means wind and the "Ö" means Island so it is Wind Island or even maybe Windy Island.
How has PBS not picked this up!?! Awesome show gents, thanks.
probably hoping to keep their ratings up...... but thank you for the thought
Adding to the other compliments here. Captain, you just sort of casually drop wisdom - like the shape of the rudder and why it's done that way. Makes this one of the most informative sailing channels on youtube. Well done!
and Randy! good to see your face.
Lastly, perhaps I should be shopping for boats in new England instead of Florida or the Caribbean! it seems like you guys just drive up the road and find these interesting, well priced boats.
Thanks for that!
It is overwhelming apparent that this sailboat has had a lot of love in it's 47 years. Just goes to show a proper built fiberglass boat has the legs to go the distance. I do wonder what this boat sold for new. I am thinking less than todays value. Capt. Q you just keep on, keeping on with your bad self.
Great stuff gentleman.. Im learning lots about sailboats from your show. Very Very educational.. Thank-you and keep up the outstanding work.
Absolutely beautiful boat.Youd never be bored with all that woodwork to keep up.
Just want to let you know how much I enjoy your videos...Always look forward for another Captain Q notification....
I appreciate that!
The distance this boat has travelled is amazing!
Captain Q and Randy just in case Merry Christmas for you both.
thank you and Happy Festivus to all :-)
You can tell the way Captain Q speaks to Randy that he must be a wonderful Grandfather to some lucky people!
thank you, jason
@@YachtHunters 😊
I just bought a real cheap Vindo40, that needs a lot of love and am spending the next couple of years doing her up before sailing through the med to turkey from the UK!
Your channel is a real joy to watch, thank you!
Have fun!
Same, new favorite channel. Love listening and watching you two. Captain Q is authentic, intelligent, and funny. Randy is a great sidekick. Great editing and quality, love the little blips from movies. Keep it going!
Thanks very much!
You both do such a great job with not only showing/teaching me with what to look for and also going back to past episodes for comparisons. Always enjoying your time as if all of us are there with you. Thanks
Wecome aboard and thanks for coming along with us!
Being 6'6", I really appreciate Captain's Qmeasuring stick. Keep up the good work guys.
You're in!
Your content is so addictive, thank you for all your videos.
What a gem of a video! Thank you guys for showing us this gorgeous boat!
Our pleasure! Thanks!
I love this channel! Captain Q reminds me of my grandfather, he is so knowledgeable and just a little bit off, his personality makes for some great videos.
you cracked the staff up with this one hahahah thanks for your note we love the classification and the detail
Been lookin at sailboats for months now, watching videos, reviews and all. I've got a 5 year plan together, and your videos are helping so much with checking out different styles, including a boatload of information about the said style of sail boat. Thank you for the videos! Awesome job guy's!
I just keep on coming back to this boat.... I is just so gorgeous.
Hi,
My family owned one for 17 years, and i sailed here abouts 38k nm in my teens around the Netherlands.
The number '50 is assigned to the square meters of sailarea upwind.(ketch)
There is also a 40(top rigged) and 45 (motor-sailor)
These are single mast, same hull, different layout. Cheers.
Ps, the 32, 65 have different hull sizes.
I was going to mention this, but you beat me to it! Good for you BF
so a 50 would be a ketch, the 40/45 are sloops? or can all 3 be interchangeable?
sailboatdata.com/sailboat/vindo-65-s
@@pearlofqatar7779 hi,yes, they where interchangeable, but it was uncommon. Almost all of them where made by request but hte sailplan hardly changed
I have seen about 16 of them, 3 were identical in layout . It was one of the main reasons they went bankrupt: extraordinary craftsmanship and materials, and to many changes per ship, and still wanting to rival the pricesof competitors... My family's ship was a demo (first) of the HISWA 1977 in Amsterdam. No back cabin(!), ketch and still the 6 beds. I saild her solo in my teens around the Netherlands, Egland and France . Extremely reliable, stong an gentle lady. My love for the salt, sailing and creating and maintaining sailboats derived from these adventures, and the touchable love the Vidö builders had besowed oppon her. (And so i became to be a Shipright) if you deside to circumnavigate on a dime and be safe, and fast, get your hands on one of these Lady's .you will love her dance and rhythm.
@@brros Thanks for the background.... do you know if the Vindo workers ended up moving to Hallberg-Rassey? The craftsmanship is just stunning
Captain Q , You make make fine, informative, and entertaining videos.
Thank you!
Love you gentlemen a perfect balance of what is knowledgeable fun and downright the best show on
You guys are absolutely great. As a non-sailor, I greatly appreciate the on screen definitions! Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Will do!
Captain Q, your enthusiasm and orderly instruction of each boat is mesmerizing. What a great teacher you have become. Truly appreciate your nautical wisdom.
On my home page
Your UA-cam channel said “Creator on the rise“ keep up the good work!
Thank you! We are flattered and inspired by the kind words and support.... Cheers!

One of my dream boats. Vindo is a wooden boat clothed in fiberglass. Perfect marriage of old world charm and nautical function. Great review!
Well said!
These videos are a lot of fun! Thank you Capt. Q and Randy.
Our pleasure!
A sheer joy listening to and watching these episodes, informative and enlightening. Much appreciation.
Much appreciation right back at you!! Thanks very much
Thank for sharing your knowledge and take the time to add the descriptions and references to the past episodes, greetings from Sweden!
A master is talking. We should only hope to be half as well informed as this intelligent man is.
I love everything about this channel!
Stay safe Capt. and Randy and thank you for the info, entertainment, and joy your videos bring!!
That's very kind of you - thanks so much!
What a perfect boat. My wife and I love these older boats which boast so much character. I wish we had more boat builders like this again. What an amazing use of space.
We agree!
Beautiful Beautiful sailing vessel the owner really loved her awesome price worth so much more. Captain Q you remind me of my dad your love and passion for beautiful wooden vessels and craftsmanship. Sailboats and joy of sailing.
Wow, thank you!
I really dig that you continue to put the definitions across the screen. I've never driven a boat but find myself watching the lifestyle videos all day long. Your channel is a never miss for me - don't understand you talking about learning curves; you guys rock!
I appreciate that!
Cannot get enough pf this Captain Q. So awesome to share and to actually take time to add descriptions. Keep it up guys. by far one the best channel.
Our pleasure! we will try and frankly we are having an awful lot of fun on our end
thanks for your note
Such a treat fellas, thank you.
I don't know as much about sailboats as antique cars. But this has to be the most beautiful 35 footer I have seen. All that
well kept wood was a thing to behold.
a good eye will spot beauty in any form thank you
Hello, so beautiful boat, we are the happy owners of Vindø 40 from 1972. And we love the beautiful boat, so proud of own her😍🇩🇰🇸🇪 .It's so "hyggeligt" sailing the boat and many others sailers looking after us in the harbors 😁 Thanks for the look of Vindö50.
We adore all of the Vindös… such timeless classics!
Hello Capt. Q and crew .. just wanted to say thank you for putting out some great information and a great show , you guys are awesome ,:) I always look forward to see what beautiful crafts are next with you guys... thank you again and Cheers and all the best from Canada
This is a nice boat and a nice navigation story going thru the Suez Canal, across the Indian and the pacific then by train probably to Maine, as a sailor and boat technician stranded in the north ( Montreal , usually in Guadeloupe on a big catamaran this time of year ) I enjoy the fact that you write down boat parts and explain fonction or the reason they are designed this way, when I teach sailing I tell newcomers that boats are the oldest high-tech things ever made and learning they're vocabulary for sailing and maintaining them is interesting and very useful !! thank you very much team Captain Q for the nice work.
and thank you so much for taking the time to write stay tuned
What a beauty...and another fabulous episode---such a pleasure watching and listening
Thanks!
Fabulous wood and workmanship.
It would make me a sailor
It really is a sight to behold ☺
That was truly a beautiful boat. Thank you.
Another great video. I love the way you are celebrating these classic sailboats. Thank You!
Glad you like them!
Beautiful, well cared for sailboat. It astounds me the distances it has traveled! A 35 footer crossing the oceans, amazing!
We agree!
I have been the proud owner of a Vindö 50 ketch with a permanent wooden doghouse for over 20 years sailing in the Baltic and around the Swedish coast. It is now sold to an owner in Kopenhagen. I miss the Boat however everything has its time. I can confirm all the positiv things said in the program and adding to that, that it is an extrem safe boat with the potential to become a Happy ship. Maybe not the fasters sailer in the world, but for exampel with only the missen and and a reduced jib, you are sailing confortable even in a gale. Poor joy with that little ship, and of you take down the Sails, and start the engine, you fel like ridning in a pilotboat.
I congratulate an eventuel New owner.
Thank you for your commentary. It certainly is heartfelt and I can understand the loss of your boat to another owner. These boats iembed themselves in our hearts and minds very deeply and become one with us so when they’re gone the sense of loss can seem endless.
It is very nice to be reassured by your note of the soundness and see worthiness of the vindo 50. I’m sure that will be an additional insurance to the next owner of this particular boat thank you for your note
Probably the best down-to-earth sailing and sailboat channel available - and I've watched a few over the past years, searching for tips and boats. Watching from Sweden (love the Vindö!). An amazing channel, so much knowledge and great tips! I'll be here, often, the channel is already a favourite! I think this is just where I'll find my very first liveaboard/blue water boat. :) Thanks again, outstanding professionialism in a very enjoyable and fun presentation format.
Thanks charlie I do hope we can be of some help with your future decisions
Love Vindos! And that one is typically beautiful, with the addition of being well maintained!
The Magic Carpet is really a wonderful boat and a nice series. Wish I could afford this 35 footer.
We agree
I am in love with this boat. I started learning to sale a few years ago and fell in love with it. So much so that I want to live on board a beautiful older wooden boat that I can handle myself and care for it to pass onto the next. I feel exactly that way with this boat. Besides I have always loved working with wood since childhood and now I love sailing...how wonderful both together at once. Besides that almost all of my ancestry is Swedish and I would be overwhelmingly proud to sail and live on a boat like this. Thank you for showing this boat and keeping me dreaming on.
Thanks again,
Gary Lindstrum
What a beautiful boat, wish I had the money to fly over and purchase it
Thanks gents, these reviews are a lot of fun, but also therapeutic... nothing like being taken back to Maine for a visit, fond memories of that area. And get to learn & appreciate boats that much more.
Thanks for watching and the note! Boats + Maine can be quite magical.... although, we might head a little south to find boats not under a sizeable snowfall 🙂
Every episode makes me miss my 1963 Alberg 35. However, my wife sure loves our Beneteau 321 and its "modern" conveniences. Happy wife, Happy life... :)
go home with the one you took to the dance you will be happy in the long run
Nice to see Randy finally . He does a great job ! and the both of you together do an even better job !
Thanks very much!
Great idea for a UA-cam channel definitely one of my favorites. Could be a real time saver for someone in the market for a sailboat, really love this boat, the woodwork on it is amazing especially with how rare mahogany is.
Glad you like it!
I know nothing of boats yet i really enjoyed all the knowledge you gave onto this video. Really a handsome beautiful yacht.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome boat for the price, it would be a great live aboard, put a watermaker in it , plus some solar, plus a powered deep freezer in it. And washer.
Such a lovely and well designed boat. Beautiful wood. Love the channel and can't wait for each new episode. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much!
Thanks youtube for recommending this channel, I love sailboats now lol
Be careful, once you feel the love it can be dangerous! 😍
I’ve been watching the Magic Carpet video series and love that Vindeo. Excited to know more of these beautiful boats are out there. Great review!
They do a very nice job of pulling you on board and doing the canals of Europe
i really enjoy them
Thank You Captain Q!
You gentlemen always find the best boats! Thanks for the tour!
What a stunning little boat, so well crafted.
Agreed! Especially with how well the current owner has maintained the brightwork
You guys are great thanks for the fun and silliness :)
Our pleasure!
Another great find Captain Q,thanks again for sharing these videos each with a little piece of history within them, take care be safe and may your needs be met when needed....
Thanks, you too!
Always waiting for captain Q
Awww that's very kind of you! Cheers!
We love your videos! This particular episode piqued my interest as, growing up, my family sailed on a Swedish boat, an Accent 26 (Shipman 26 or Norlin 26), designed by Peter Norlin. She was an absolutely wonderful boat - solidly built/constructed with superb craftsmanship; she was comfortable and sailed beautifully! Another spectacular and informative episode - thank you so much, Captain Q and Randy! Happy Holidays!
Thanks for sharing! European boats are built for the North Sea and the Bay Of Biscay and english channel as opposed to American east coast protected harbors and coastline and lighter air
thank you for your note
Fantastic boat, fantastic channel. Thanks again gents!
Glad you enjoy it!
Love the red green suspenders.
@11.12: The pulpit has that countersink in the front, because in Sweden everybody is mooring the boat with the bow towards the wharf, so to get on and off the boat it's shaped like that. The boat was built on the west coast where it's also popular to moor to the cliffs out in the archipelago. There it's also comes out handy to have this shape.
It's not useful when you take down the mast because the doghouse will make it come well over the pulpit.
There's still more for us to learn about sailing ;) thanks for the note and tip.... this makes total sense. Cheers!
You fellas are a hoot!! Love this channel.
Thanks Capt Q and to Randy too for an enlightening and an in-depth briefing of the Vindo 50. A magnificent model vessel with a versatile deck-stepped mast on the Tabernacle. Superb condition for a 74' that has navigated the 7-Oceans including Artic and Antarctic seas. ⛵️👍
Our pleasure! a little update though for you:
"The engine is a Yanmar 3GM30F. Incredibly reliable, 1500 hrs. I did the repower in 1998, but still consider it a “new” engine. The mast step is not a tabernacle, but you are correct, there is a positioning pin that looks like it works that way. Worth a mention on boats with deck-stepped masts is what the compression post arrangement is like to carry the load to the keel. On my boat it was built into the corner of the head. Evidently I steered you wrong on the bow pulpit cutout for resting the mast. I know it fits there nicely, having done that when hauling the boat out on Peaks Island. But I lived in Sweden and know how useful it was for mooring to rocks too.
Captain Q is the man!
THIS A INCREDIBLE CHANNEL Love this!!! What a great UA-cam find. Subing immediately.
Thank you for another awesome review!!!! Captain Q is a Rock Star
😊Thank you for watching!! Cheers
I enjoyed this video tremendously. I never had the opportunity to see inside one of these boats but admired one from a distance in Belize under sail in gale conditions. With a patch of jib and the mizzen up she was nicely making way like a much larger boat. Thanks for the tour and have a very Merry Christmas.
we love these anecdotes really puts real life flesh on the "ribs" thank you
Love the channel. As well as being informative the banter between you and Randy is hilarious. This boat really catches my eye. You can tell how well it has been cared for. She is nearly 50 years old, and is in stellar shape. Don't know whether you two funny guys celebrate Christmas or not, but if you do, then I wish you a Merry Christmas. -Brian
Thanks 👍 usually celebrate any thing we can but recently due to the down size of our home the big tree has given away to a manufactured 6' foot Walmart special that is as thin as my old grandmother and reminiscent of George or Kramer's Festivus tree but since putting it up every year we have found profound happiness Festivus for the restofus !!! credit to Jerry Seinfeld thank you
Great job, guys. Look forward to your episodes.keep em coming.
We will!
Captain Q, Sailing Project Atticus is looking for a new (to them) yacht. Perhaps you could make them aware of your channel and lend a hand?
This is a phenomenal idea and would surely help this channel get more of the exposure it truly deserves!
Definitely worth a chat to see if they would want to locate a new home from up north.... I read that they have a few specific boats already in mind... they do a wonderful job with their channel so we'd be happy to help if we could
I really like this boat!
Thanks again captain Q and Randy 👍
It really is stunning and the owner has done an amazing job with the upkeep. Thank you!
Nice to see a Vindö 50 again. I worked for the company in 192 and laid the deck on the 50's which brings back lots of lovely memories os sitting outdoors at the waters edge at lunchtimes when the weather was good. I live about 15 min drive from the old boatyard which today still functions as a yatch boatyard but under new ownership and different make of boat. Our youngest daughter lives just across the water from the yard. The yard is just over the bridge from the mainland on the northern to of the island Orust which is Sweden's 3 rd. largest island.
Wonderful memories thank you for sharing
Captain Q is an amazing salesman. Saving old boats...one boat at a time...
Not trying to sell any of these boats but rather to explain them beyond Yacht World and help people formulate a picture of what their dream boat might be whether for round the world or cruising local waters or just having a ball doing some local racing thank you
@@YachtHunters You have really opened many eyes on the fact that you don't need a million dollars to enjoy sailing.
Thank you for another great video. Your ability to find these beautiful and unusual boats is a lot of fun. I'm hooked! Keep going, I can't wait to see what you find next.
Thanks, will do!
Love the channel guys. Keep it up. Great work as always.
Love you guys - thanks for the help in getting through the winter blues. Merry Christmas 🎄

Great video... thanks for the look
Captain Q and Randy...Thank You. What a wonderful show you all put on. It has become a family favorite. I'm sure it has been said before, reminds me of Bob and Norm...just sailboats.
Educational and holds interest so well, love when "Down Below" comes on. Quite suspenseful sometimes.
I'm getting ready to retire. Had children later than most and have restored 2 classics out of 5 boats we have sailed. We have put enough away to find the big cruiser to get lost somewhere below 0* and east o 100*. we put enough away to buy new or close to new but you have got me thinking...I have always had older boats because...well...I guess you know the reason...thanks for the renewed perspective after seeing the boats on your show it is time to rethink the purchase plan.

What a lovely comment and sentiment! Here's a little-known fact: an-day was on an episode of This Old House back in the 90s... so perhaps he picked up the mindset way back then? Glad to hear you're opening up the purchase plan.... keep us posted on which direction you head!
