Scupper is a return to the early days of kayak fishing. The latest fishing kayaks, especially pedal drives, are getting so heavy they are hard to transport.
Agreed. I made the mistake of buying a very heavy fishing kayak last year and never use it because transporting it throws my back out. On the other hand, I bought my wife a 45 pound kayak and I use it all the time. The weight of these fishing kayaks has gotten out of control.
looks like fun
I need this! I really want to be able to paddle upriver & float back. Most of the rivers here are too swift. All the kayaks I've tried are like trying to push a brick
This would be the kayak brand to look at. Swell is the best paddling sit on top brand I have been on. They have designers and engineers who are leaders in the industry.
Ive been talking myself in and out of this kayak for months.
My main worry is it swamping in choppy seas, i dont want to spend hours sitting in a pool of water.
Ive heard very mixed reveiws on its ability to drain water through the scupper plugs.

Unfortunatelly Scupper 14 or any Swell Watercraft kayaks aren't sold here in Brazil
I have an old town fishing kayak and it’s a damn barge on the water. It weighs a ton and sits so high in the water that a little wind pushes the back end out forcing you to row one sided for hours at a time. I live on the Chesapeake Bay so not a good fit. This looks like the answer I’ve been looking for. Thank you.
Happy to help. Swell is definitely the best SOT I’ve been on for paddling performance without going to something crazy like an African imported Stealth BFS or Profisha kayak.
Have you paddled the 14 ft? I'm curious how big a difference there is between the two
I’m likely getting the 16ft around January/February. The 16ft is gonna get fitted with quick deploy sail for covering more water offshore fishing. I can also troll baits then hands free. However, if wind dies down I can still effortlessly paddle. I love Swell kayaks. They are making them in my home state of Iowa. I live in Florida but grew up in Iowa. The designs of their kayaks are optimized for paddling unlike 99% of the other kayaks on the market which try to sell you on flashy things.
Not against a Stellar S14S for sure. 😂
I just got the New Swell Scupper 16. Pretty stoked. It is such a sexy looking kayak. Can’t wait to try it out. The 12 ft paddled so well so can’t image what the 16 will be like.
Just bought same model and colour , i did ask questions on jims fb page but hes probably busy with his new factory.
Can you tell me how watertight the hatches are ? I dont see a rubber seal ,
Am guessing theres no bullheads inside ?
Seems to be bone dry. I’ve never had to use the drain plug yet. It has a hatch gasket. Also the hull shape deflects water away from hatch. I’ve had mine in torrential downpour tropical storms. I don’t store mine indoors. It is outdoors 24/7. Not saying it can’t happen…but my experience has been that it stays dry.
@KayakDIY thanks mate , took mine out today, in windy wet choppy conditions it performed well for its little size , as you say the shape of the bow did indeed keep water mainly out the cockpit, water did occasionally pop up through the 1st scupper holes due to swell , I don't see a reason to plug them as yet ,
Hopefully tomorrow have a calmer day to test its speed and efficiency, today was better conditions for wind surfing and sailing then kayaking but a good test all the same ,
Thanks for reply, mine did come with a slight flat part on the Hull looks like we're it was stored on a rack so will see if I can pop it out with the boiling water trick ,
Unless it's meant to be like that but I doubt it .
Anyways thanks for reply much appreciated upto now I am happy with the boat
How can I buy a swell scupper12 here in swfl
it's going to be next year before we get into retail stores in FL....
Actually the fastest sit on top is a eddyline Caribbean and one by stellar
No doubt the Eddyline Caribbean is awesome, I have a lot of paddling time on the Caribbean. However, I still feel this closely compares if not exceeds in terms of performance. The patented Swell scupper plug design paired with low center of gravity makes this kayak brand as a whole a top contender for performance. There might be other closely compared great performing SOT kayaks, but I think the 12ft Swell Scupper adventure is top in its class/category for specs, price, and performance. People couldn’t go wrong with an Eddyline Caribbean though either. 👊
If you want speed and fun the Stellar S14S is by far faster.
@@lindawilliams4581 I wanted a sit on top or sea kayak to relax and take a easy paddle as i usually paddle a nelo k1 , Bought a eddy rio its a great boat but i decided to try and sell it and continue paddle a k1 or surfski then when i get old ill level down to a sea kayak.
